    "Lacklands Law: Don't be first, Don't be last, Don't be the best, Don't be the worst, Never volunteer." Be invisible when possible. Additionally: Attention to detail on everything, do your best and help those that need help. Remember Teamwork. I graduated in August of 1970. Aced every test they gave me and was 3 Minutes under the required time on the 1.5 mile run. Just a personal goal. No honor Grads back then.

    And remember they need you just as much, if not more, than you need them. Their goal is to turn you into an Airman, not try to find a way of getting rid of you. Whenever you start to have doubts just remember all of the thousands and thousands of others who have made it through. And as long as you consider yourself at least average then you know you will make it no problem.

    He’s not lying that the desserts are there for everyone, but one thing he didn’t mention is that the dessert fridge is literally located in front of the snake pit, which is where the MTIs sit at lol. They will only yell at you if you don’t do your facing movements correctly when getting desserts.

    I graduated on April 2023 and was the best experience of my life. Memorizing the reported statement before BMT was so useful. It changed a little bit now. I have friends in the Army and they say that the food at Air Force BMT is a lot better than what they give them. I had to do as chow runner, but at the end, it really helped realized I could be a leader, made me believe on my self and also helped me with my English, which is my second language. 💢 Don't forget to take bandaids, those boots kill your feet the first 2 weeks !!! 💢

    Make sure you take something to read, etc. Tons of "hurry up and wait". Also, make sure you get a good night's sleep. You want to be alert and rested as much as possible when taking any written tests they may give you. Even if you have already taken your ASVAB they might still have an additional test or two based on what career they are considering you for. Those tests scores are a huge part of your resume and if you are trying to get into a small career field then you might be competing against several people for the same position. Heck, near the end of basic when they officially announced our fields there were a few of us that got into career fields where there was only 1 person from our graduating class that got into.

  • @101perspective

    @101perspective

    Жыл бұрын

    @@arcticfalls4181 Congrats! Make sure you study hard. I visited the fire department on base dozens of times. You could tell everyone had a sense of purpose and took their job seriously. Lots of expensive and complicated/dangerous equipment you will be working with. And you will be protecting a lot of VERY expensive and complicated equipment. So, there will be lots to learn. It may even seem overwhelming at first. Just remember their goal is to train you, not flunk you. And they have perfected their training methods. If you put in the work you stand a good chance of passing. However, they will recycle you or kick you to a different field completely if you just don't have the aptitude for the job. So if you are having troubles with something don't hesitate to ask others for help. Maybe even set up a small study group if they let you. On a side note, you will probably be training along side other military branches. I encourage you to get to know a few of them. They are new to the military also but they can still give you some insight into those branches. Their daily routines, how they are treated, etc. Nothing you have to know. Just something you might be glad later you did. Down the road you might get deployed with other military branch members. I once even got assigned to a deployed location where I reported to an Army officer and everyone else in my office was Army. Those from other branches in your text school won't fully prepare you for such a situation but you at least will have a gist of how different it can be. Especially discipline wise. I wouldn't spend too much time thinking about this, etc. Maybe just eat lunch with them or something from time to time if that is an option. And never forget, when your warning lights begin to melt, it's a sign you're parked too close to the fire.

    Heh! Retired SMSgt here, excellent video! I hadn't thought about chow runner in years, but *I* was the chow runner for my flight! I went through BMT in 1980 and then retired in 2005, and then I was a high school English teacher in a low-performing school in Alabama, which was much more dangerous and violent than anything I ever did in the Air Force. I'm retired from that now, thankfully.

    I went to Air Force BMT in December 2001. When the MTI was giving out jobs, he appointed someone to be responsible for making sure everyone passed the Air Force history test. I volunteered to assist with that. The MTI left to go to his office, came back, and said I could do that. My guess is he went to see my high school transcript to see if I was smart enough to help. That was the easiest job possible, and I was glad. That is the only time I volunteered for anything in the Air Force.

    Drink your two glasses of water FIRST and then you can go get any other drink that's available in the dining area. You can do this on your FIRST visit to the chow hall, as long as you've had your two glasses of water first. Keep in mind, as a recruit, you are outranked by EVERYBODY including the guy taking out the trash behind the chow hall. RESPECT EVERYBODY AND ASSUME THAT ANYBODY CAN DRAG YOU INTO THE CO'S OFFICE AT ANY MOMENT. Basic is a game. Play it by their rules, do everything you are told, when you are told, how you are told to do it. That is how you win.

    When it comes to chow runner, my advice is totally different. Volunteer for one thing only at BMT and that is chow runner, get it out of the way, if you volunteer for it first, you will eventually get good at it and they will eventually replace you. I got voluntold to be chow runner week 4 and was chow runner the rest of BMT. Get that out of the way so you dont have to do it later.

    If you sleep by the restrooms it’s so bright, it takes awhile to adjust. But halfway through, you have to change what bed you sleep in. But normally you’ll be tired enough to sleep well. Also EC night shift sucks especially if you have the 3-5 am shift.

    Things sure have changed since 1971! Everybody got their chance at cleaning the latrines, showers and the bays. Lights went out at night. Only the Fire Watch had flashlights. We did not walk down the center aisle of the bay...that was kept shined. Half of all toilets, sinks and showers were not used. Easier to keep latrine clean for inspections. No one could just let themselves into the bay. Door guard only opened the door if whoever wanted in had a reason to be there. I once turned away a full colonel who had no connection to our flight. It was a test to see if he could bluff his way in. I was made Dorm Chief...and enjoyed it! Didn't see me on any KP list! I made the lists of who went to which duty. Get on my bad side and guess who was doing pots and pans! Also got my butt chewed for others not performing as they should. Had its perks and its drawbacks. I wasn't asked to be Dorm Chief...I was told! Do what you are told, keep your mouth shut unless asked to open it and do your best.
