One of the most lackluster world finals i have ever seen

I feel like they are making the same mistake nascar made by either attempting to right a slide in popularity or just wanting to grow they make to many changes to try and bring in new fans forgetting about the fans they already have. They are watering down the finals by basically making so many categories that a large number of trucks could walk away as "Champions". No matter what the funny thing is even with all the new categories it's doubtful anyone will ever catch the master, Tom Meents. No one has even came close to his total championships and almost all of them came the honest, old fashion way. He is the best to ever do it and honestly no one else comes close.

I've been a Tom Meents fan since the days he was a mud racer running "Shake Me" and then getting asked by Paul Shaffer to drive Monster Patrol. Once he beat Dennis Anderson in one of his first races, it instantly made him a superstar in the sport and from that point on, Tom Meents has done nothing but push monster jam and monster trucks forward further and further past what was long thought to be impossible. The man has innovatived how monster jam is done. Other drivers had to start taking the risks Tom was back in the 1990s and early 2000s. People would freestyle, but would be very limted in how people navigated the track, and thats the key word here "navigated" the early drivers were less freestyling to push the limits of themselves or their truck, but just to show the crowd a big truck jumping cars and crushing them. They weren't pushing the envelope because up until that point nobody needed too. Once Tom Meents arrived on the scene things changed. The way Meents freestyled was dramatically different from anyone else. Whereas others were "navigate" the track, looking for simple hits. Tom would *ATTACK* the track, he would drive his truck into the ground of that track as if the track itself owed him money. He would hit ramps, cars, and just about anything in-between at *ridiculous* speed, far faster than anything anyone else was doing. He was attacked obstacles at angles that other drivers never even considered, and he hit those angles *hard* . Nobody could compete with Tom early on because nobody was willing to go as far as Tom was in pushing their truck and themselves to hit bigger things at faster speeds. Toms 14 world championships are a testament to his phenomenal performance in his Monster Truck career. Tom Meents has been my favorite Monster Truck Driver since i was a little kid. I remember my dad buying Monster Jam World Finals: 1 on Pay Per View back in 2000 while watching it with him and cheering on our favorite Truck/Drive. My dad was Jim Kohler/Avenger fan because he was from Michigan like we are, my favorite was Tom Meents because he was an otherworldy driver. Watching Tom single handedly destroy every single one of his opponents that night was so satisfying, from his first ever race against WCW Nitro Machine to his finals race against Scott Hartsock/Gunslinger (R.I.P). I was overjoyed that Tom won his first world title and i cheered him on in freestyle, however it wasn't meant to be that night. But next year my dad ordered the Monster Jam World Finals: 2 and that year we saw Tom Meents in Goldberg take it one step further and he sweeps the World Finals winning both racing and freestyle and absolutely making me a lifelong fan even moreso. Seeing Tom sweep World Finals 3 for me was the point at which i crowed Tom Meents the G.O.A.T of Monster Jam. He was undefeated in 3 years straight of racing competition (12-0) and had back to back years as World Freestyle champion, giving Tom Meents 5 championship Titles in 3 years. For me, Tom Meents is the greatest monster truck driver of all time

Wow to the 2 wheel skills Tom meets. I can’t help but wonder how amazing Denise Anderson would be if he was still driving and not had that back injury ending his pro monster truck career.

One of the more annoying things is that now if the trucks shed too many body panels they will shut them off, what a way to loose momentum and what happened to just letting the trucks run until something actually broke.

I am now convinced that it's illegal for Blue Thunder to have nice things. Why can't my childhood just win one championship. Plz, just one. Is that really so much to ask for?

I’ve got a 2 year old obsessed with monster trucks. This kid has almost 30 of the 1:64 scale monster jam trucks. I want to make him a track like the one displayed when talking about the layout. What are you using to build it? Is there a way to get each ramp obstacle or is it just a guessing thing? I looked for a kit but it’s either for the smaller trucks, or that sand that would fall apart… I guess I could cut them out of wood and glue them altogether and then make a stadium from a chunk of plywood.

Sam Boyd Stadium is permanently closed, so they can't go back. The opening of Allegiant Stadium is what led to that because UNLV left for the new stadium.

Where are the cars, buses, rv’s ? Was so much better back in the day…

I got to see this World Finals in person. I was blown away by all the action, many of which I filmed myself, and hope to go to Nashville for the next one.

If the truck runs over the pieces it could kick up into the stands and potentially hurt someone. Usually they don’t care about a piece or two but when the entire body is laid across the track that’s a different story.

@@magreen311 if you're talking about Tacoma, Natural High didn't run anything over, it had a damaged drive shaft and as it went to hit an obstacle, a piece of the driveshaft ring broke off and got launched and killed a kid, it wasn't that he ran it over and it launched it, the part broke off at the worst possible moment
