Definitely an odd twist throwing the Stinger in the mix, but I liked the matchup it was interesting to see!

Got my 2019 Stinger GT(2) 20th Anniversary Edition almost 2.5 years ago (15,000km for $40k CDN) and it’s still a joy to drive and reliable with only basic maintenance done @135,000km now. Great bang for buck car, especially in Canada where the MSRP is the same as US.

@@SilverScarletSpider honestly I think made a pretty big market error on the pricing in Canada. Back in 2018 you could get a GT for 44,500 CAD brand new which was a steal. Now it has gone up and starts at 52,000 CAD which is still a good value for what you get.

Dumping the clutch in the manual will get it a better launch but the SPT will overtake it because it has better transmission gearing due to the CVT.

@@SuzukiKid400 Not necessarily. The SPT transmission is heavy so the automatic version of the WRX is around 130lbs heavier. The manual WRX should keep pulling ahead just slightly. Given a decent manual driver, the manual will be faster than the CVT.

The manual 2022 WRX will be just slightly faster. The SPT version is about 130lbs heavier when comparing premium to premium. Given the added weight, the manual will be a tad faster. This has been talked about on some other videos I've seen.

I have both a SPT and a manual, the SPT is faster by about a second to 60 mph just because you smash the gas and go there’s no lag between shifts.

Would be a bit more fair of a race if you replaced the stinger with the Kia k5 gt or the Hyundai Elantra N. I think both still win but would have been a lot closer

If you could ever get the 2.5 Stinger to do a race with the GLI that would be cool. My friend had a 2.5 Stinger and we were gonna race but he traded it for a 4Runner before we got the chance. Edit: I just remembered my friends Stinger was a 2.0T with 255hp not the 2.5, which is another reason he got rid of it because they switched engines right after he bought it.

@@GodsloveMuzik He’s more of a 4x4 Toyota kind of guy than a sports sedan guy, and he got the Stinger for an insane deal so he made a ton of money off of it to put towards a nice 4Runner. It also had a very noticeable trunk rattle that he kept trying to get fixed but it wouldn’t go away so it was at the dealership most of the time he had it.

Great video but I would have preferred the stinger 2.5t AWD

I’m confused what was unusual about the results. The fastest car smashed the other two, and then we got a close battle between the WRX and GLI with the Subaru probably winning the dig races because of its AWD. The DSG and lighter weight made up for the power difference. I thought from the title they were somehow going to beat the Stinger or something.

You need to get a Maxima in there. They are surprisingly quick even with a CVT. Especially on a roll.

What tires were on the GLI?

Why did you use the 3.3L stinger and not the more comparable 2.5L? Also that stinger starts at $51,000 here in the States… what’s next WRX vs a Lamborghini?

A base 2022/23 6spd MT is the best bang for buck at the 30k range. Took mine out for 32k in total.

You should test a Shelby GT500 against a BRZ and GTI next 😂🙃 I wonder what the results will be 🤔

Good video but not really a fair fight with the Stinger in there.

Try using manual mode, put the gear lever into M & put it in S# with max settings & shift the WRX using the paddles, I feel if you did it that way you probably would’ve taken the Jetta in the first roll, that’s what I normally do when roll racing in a CVT (SPT) WRX, the CVT doesn’t do as good as a job as a DSG when it auto downshifts & gets going, what I would do is keep it locked in M (Manual mode) in 2nd or 3rd “gear” depending on what speed you want to roll from, then floor it & manually shift yourself with the paddle shifters, just a suggestion for the next race you use the SPT WRX. The good thing is about the CVT WRX is that it doesn’t auto upshift for you so it does take some driver involvement/skill. Also please drag race the SPT against the manual WRX I’d love to see which one is quicker, my guess is Manual from a dig as you can launch it at much higher RPM, CVT is limited to 2500rpm to protect the transmission, but the CVT should beat the manual in a roll.

Ecoboost mustang with a tune you would most likely take it if the stinger was stock due to weight. Unless awd you would loose from dig more then likely. Stock for stock stinger wins all day. Stinger with a tune that's a different story fbo 93 tune can get you up to 420 plus and 0-60 in low fours even threes depending on grip and drivetrain of course

I have a stock stinger and the fastest car I’ve beat was a 2014 rs5 w an engine tune and exhaust so if you know where u r in comparison to that then there you go

@@SuzukiKid400 the manual in the Wrx is garbage I sold my 2022 Wrx after 6 months. They’re so slow and cheaply made. Kia stinger is better everywhere, even on a gravel road a stinger would annihilate a wrx or sti.

Need golf R, Elantra N, and GR Corolla vs the Wrx when possible.

not really a fair comparison to be honest. a turbo 4 stinger would have been best. Still impressive that it moves that 4,200lb monster so well...hope the brakes are good lol. All that being said, I think that wrx could take that stinger if you put a fraction of the cost difference into performance mods...in fact, A cobb ap, intake and jpipe will put you over 350 awhp on 93 easily...and weighing 700lbs less, I think the tables get turned. that new VB platform is begging for a beating with mods. First time in over 10 years where the WRX platform wasnt engine limited and instead was limited by the gearbox, diff, axels etc as those seem to be breaking on modded VBs before their engines are.

That gli looks like it's got some upgrades lol. Maybe intake and tune?

a good line up will be, gli, elantra n, civic si, maybe a kia k5 gt, and elantra n line.

No audio to not ear the soud of the WRX cvt....🤣

I went to test drive a 2022 wrx recently. I was majorly disappointed. It did not feel sporty in the least bit. Way slower than I expected. It was a 6MT and I beat the car pretty hard to see what it could do. I was really bummed, because based on everything I have seen\heard, I expected to buy the car. If I was let down by the MT I cant even imagine how miserable the CVT must be.

That Gli needs a driver upgrade because in the real world the Gli on roll races is quit a bit faster than the WRX

With cvt vehicles on a roll it is best to get it in first sim gear then right when it gets to redline put it back in drive to keep it from fake shifting. The fake shifting makes a big difference compared to it staying at redline. Some cvt cars get to redline quicker if you double tap the accelerator

Two observations: 1- Very disappointed in the GLI's electronic Limited Slip Differential. It clearly did a terrible job off the line, each time. 2- The GLI did a decent job holding its own against the WRX. Especially when you realize the WRX requires Premium fuel. But the GLI uses Regular.

Actually it doesn’t “require” 91. My owners manual says 87 octane minimum is sufficient.

The Mk8 Golf R (or 7.5 for that matter) would’ve blown the doors off the WRX and would probably give the Stinger a serious run. The GLI and WRX are comparable from a roll, but the GLI is always gonna be let down from a dig with FWD.

The GLI seemed faster on a roll. Second race it seemed to have started a little late by the looks of it. Even in the digs u could see it start to catch up to the WRX if it wasn’t spinning.

Kia should be Stinger v4-2.5

This race made no sense lol. Bring back a sonata N line that doesn’t have a trash driver to this race instead of the stinger.

Second time WRX took the GLI on a roll. Jetta GLI has more power than on paper and WRX is heavier and has a full time AWD with real center diff. A FWD tranny is more efficient.

It doesn't matter if it's new or old when it has more power than on paper and a lot lighter and a FWD transmission. And still, wasn't faster. And also GLI had an aftermarket intake.

@@Eugen-E first of all the GLI never started early in the first roll. Only THR WRX did in the second. Even in the DIG races once the GLI stopped spinning Sam mentioned it was catching up to the WRX. Further more the GLI they are using is the heaviest version. In USA you get some that are 300 pounds lighter, it’s on a 10 year old platform, and still beat a brand new WRX when the AWD is out of the equation. You just sound like a hater 😅😅😅
