Such gorgeous boats. I can vouch for the Keewaydin 15. I’ve owned a fibreglass Prospector 16 for 35 years but needed something much lighter so I could handle more portages on solo trips, and decided on Swift. I rented several boats at Algonquin Outfitters last year so I’d make a well-considered choice. I rented the Keewaydin 15 for a multi day trip and was surprised how much I was able to carry in it. It initially felt a bit tippy (like a sea kayak) but after a couple of hours I really became at one with it and was very sad when I had to turn it in. I ended up ordering a Keewaydin 16 (tandem, which I had also rented) because I need the option of having another paddler, but if I was getting a solo canoe, I’d almost certainly get the Keewaydin 15. The Keewaydin canoes are fantastic in bigger wind and waves and seem to thrive in swells and chop. Who knows, maybe I’ll follow Bill’s advice and get a 2nd one down the road.

One day I hope to get a 12.8 to 14 ft Prospector style canoe. For portaging, my old 1972 St Maurice 14 ft fiberglass Prospector is a little bit, shall we say, heavy! Beautiful canoes you make.

Hi Bill great canoes ! could you recomend a canoe that would work for me, most of my tripping is up on the allagash. it is half lake tripping and half river with some rocks and rapids up to class to 3. I usually camp for seven +or -days.. 17 ft is the size I use now, its made of plastic and is heavy, but I can ride up on a rock and helicopter around and not have to worry about puncturing. that is probably my main concern. I'm not concerned with scratches. thank you, and keep up the nice boats!!!

Bill and all the crew there at Swift. You do a lot of demos with a person sitting in the canoe but nothing on loading it. I'm interested in the Prospector 14 multi-level seat. What does it look like when loaded with a 60liter barrel and a 114-liter dry bag?

I don’t have their Prospector 14, but I rented the Keewaydin 15 last year. Although it’s a foot longer it’s much slimmer. The Prospector 14 has significantly more capacity. So as an indication for you, in the smaller Keewaydin, I had two barrels (60 and 30 litres), a 75-litre Eureka canoe pack, a daypack, and still had room left over.

Nice boats but I will always have a beef with Swift Georgian Bay. I had to cancel a rental last summer and they would not allow me to put the money towards a store purchase. They walked away with my $100 and I will never walk into their stores again.

Not sure if you'd want to do this, but we know plenty of folks who string them from the ceiling. There are boat storage systems that you can buy that have a pulley where you load it on the floor and then hoist it to the ceiling or the wall. We sell them at our Muskoka location.
