2022 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

By no means a busted flush
The 2022 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo is a motorsport-inspired edition of the popular supermini.
Let CarGurus help you find your next car:
www.cargurus.co.uk/Cars/artic...
Skoda isn't a car company renowned for its motorsport heritage, but believe it or not, the brand has enjoyed some success in rallying in years gone by, particularly in the famous Monte Carlo Rally. To celebrate that fact, Skoda uses that very name to signify the hottest version of the Fabia supermini, now that the vRS badge has been removed from the Fabia range.
However, don't go thinking that the Monte Carlo is some junior hot hatch, because it's rather more, well, tepid than that. Power comes from the same 150-horsepower 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine found in countless VW-Group products, and while that makes it the most power Fabia on offer, a 0-62mph sprint time of around eight seconds isn't exactly going to set your hair on fire. However, the focus of this car isn't on outright performance, it's on comfort and style. So how does it deliver on that score?
In this CarGurus UK video review, Rebecca Jackson takes a detailed look at the Monte Carlo and answers that very question, while also examining its space, practicality, quality, technology and what it's like to drive.

I have a Fabia SE-L 110hp (1.0T) and it’s brilliant. Definitely recommend, great fuel economy, brilliant infotainment system and really comfortable whether as the driver or as the passenger. Whilst it might take 9.5 seconds to reach 60, I don’t thrash my car so it doesn’t bother me either. It has plenty of power and does a great job on the motorway. The only thing I dislike is the Lane control system that I continually have to switch off (but know this is a frustration with most new cars)

@@purple2275 there are a few statements that I get a bit tired of hearing in these reviews, one is being “it’s not fast, it takes almost 10 seconds to reach 60” and “at this price point, you can’t expect anything else” when the car costs £20,000 plus. I mean, £20k is pocket change, right? These journalists sometimes need a reality check!

I bought one earlier this year to replace a Superb 4x4 272hp - which was an amazing car but would have landed me with a large fine at some point because it was so ludicrously quick. Surprised Rebecca only got 35mpg - that's a 'round town' average for me - I'm usually between 40 and 50 depending on the driving. 1.5 is a nice engine to live with; shedloads of torque so it isn't kicking down all the time. It's fast enough to make it relaxed on the motorway, overtaking is not an issue when required and it doesn't shake your fillings out on poor surfaces. I'm very happy with it.

  • @patrickcarr9678

@@robz1471 It's a totally different animal. The Superb was very much a car with a split personality. Most of the time it just wafted around giving you no clue how powerful it was, but if you floored it or put it into sport mode, it transformed into an angry, snarling beast. The Fabia is much more linear, and feels more agile too. Obviously, it's much more basic in lots of ways and nowhere near as luxurious, but I think I actually enjoy it more as a driver's car.

Bought one. Love it. Great little engine, whilst not "hot" - is warm enough for a little car which is suited for the city. That said, I did a 500km round trip recently, and the car was comfortable. Fuel economy came down to 5litre / 100km (about 47MPG) in real world - which I think is perfect. Handling is great. Space for driver and passenger is great. Road noise acceptible. Whats not to like? Should have electric seat at least for the driver. Good to have? Would have been nicer with a glass roof.

As the former owner of the Fabia vRS (the original SE version) I think Skoda have dropped the ball on not having a Fabia vRS. You can get an Octavia, Kodiaq and Enyaq; yet the car they use in the Rally2 class in the WRC, the Fabia, you can't. Makes no sense at all.

I really like this car, OK it's not a full on hot hatch and the Monte Carlo is more of a style model than an all out performance model. It's very sensible but a tad quicker than others in the range. I had a pre-facelift version of the last model with the old 1.2 four pot engine and in most situations it was perfect. Health issues now require an auto as my preference but I would miss the paddle shifters. I'd need to check if there is still a manual mode by shifting the gear select lever to the left. As you mention it's a motorsport-inspired edition of the popular supermini.

For just a split-second, I thought Chevy had re-introduced the Monte Carlo. Rear-wheel drive, mid-size coupe, Super Sport to take on the Dodge Charger! Now I'm disappointed. And, it looks like a VW Golf with different front-end styling. Wait! 150hp.? And, that's actually *with* a turbo charger?? That's pathetic! I'm sorry but it is. You have naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engines out there that can _easily_ do 150hp.
