2022 Peterbilt 579 tour of updated features and test drive

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Since its debut in 2012, the Model 579 - now Peterbilt's on-highway flagship - has received a few of the aforementioned refinements, like the addition of the hyper-aerodynamic EPIQ package in 2014 and long-awaited integrated sleeper, UltraLoft, four years later. Beyond those, design or technology upgrades were incremental and subtle.
When Peterbilt debuted its refreshed Model 579 last year it marked a fairly significant revamp - at least for Paccar, which has historically favored small refinements over full-blown reinvention.

After putting a few miles from new " 50k" , I can tell you the fresh outside update didn't improve several issues with the past 579 and added some new problems. First the intake vents on the side of the hood rattle so bad it's can be heard inside the cab with the windows up, the steering column plastic cover started rattling at around 40k just like my last 2 trucks " 20.00 in sound deadening mat would cure this" , the digital dash is a whole new world of terrible ideas, it was definitely not ready for production, nothing but trouble. It can look good all day, but the cosmetics and interiors on these trucks are cheap and quality control is definitely lacking for something in this price range.

10 mpg without load, with 80000 pounds 7.5/8 mpg approx, the difference is that a European like a volvo Fh of 500hp produces more torque (2065ft lb) than a X15 565HP or a DD16 600HP consuming 10mpg with 40 tons in mountainous countries of Europe.

For a over the road truck this is one sharp looking truck! This truck and the Next generation T680 are my 2 favorites.

Is this what's going to replace the 389? I'm a huge fan of the 389. Well this truck is nice, it just doesn't give me the wow factor. 🇺🇸👍

589 is the replacement. We'll see it sometime in late 2023 or early 2024.

Do the Utraloft come with a driver's lounge (table in back) in a particular model or is that not a feature that's installed yet?

I would like to ask a question. I’ve called 3 dealerships and no one actually knew how to answer. Question is how does the fuel system work with the dual tanks? Does they both pull fuel or does one pull from the other and can you fill the driver tank and passenger tank pull from that tank as well so if you want to run a short run and would like to prevent from fueling both tanks? I do understand the float does not reach the bottom of the tank so treat a 1/4 of tank like it’s empty for incline hills and bumps.

I don't know about Peterbilt but the AMT from Freightliner constantly fights you when trying to make low speed maneuvers, specifically when backing. Just watch for the entire truck to start rocking side to side when the driver tries to slowly back up. It's the clutch grabbing and letting go repeatedly which if you keep the throttle where it is well continue to get worse. Anybody sleeping in back will get thrown around as well. The only way to stop it is to get off the throttle or step in it and jump backwards several feet all at once. My opinion, all AMTs are garbage in the real world.

Wonderful, but there is a threat to these Diesel engines which is electric and hydrogen power namely electric that have 700 plus horsepower motors by design. These new trucks are here and are advancing by the day, month and year.
