@@savagegeese I couldn't tell if it was an aesthetic choice. Like the soft blur you see with what I guess youd call "glam". Could definitely be used to great effect if done strategically.

The carbon fiber stuff is imitation, I assume. I find that bad style if it is, especially in that price segment.

Given the amount of CONSISTENT complaints about haptic controls where you have to take your eyes off the road to do simple tasks, I'm dumbfounded by manufacturers refusing to make cars for human beings. Way to go Genesis.

Hyundai/Genesis have been absolutely killing it lately. Have to respect the cars they have been putting out

The Fecal incontinence visual was a nice touch.

I think car review channels put too much emphasis on performance when reviewing vehicles. The average driver doesn't care about 0-60 and sports car handling. There are cars for that. The average buyer of a G80 is concerned about styling, luxury, and features. Genesis knows that there are companies who will outdo their "Sport" line, and I don't think that they worry about that too much.

True, for now these are luxury cars. Genesis will develop their sport line down the road. They are starting off slow woth the Elentra N, kona N, and the sonata n line e. Once they have perfected it they will move onto the genesis models

The Genesis engineers would be wise to watch this video for a game plan of how to make improvements for next year.

Those improvements would be contingent on the target consumer they want to reach. To be fair a lot of the suggestions made here seems to be suggesting pushing the car into sport mode when that’s not the purpose of this particular vehicle. I come to that conclusion based on ket words that he says (pushing to the limit, get into sport + mode, etc). The average lux care buyer doesn’t care about that for the most part. They getting from home, to the office, to see the grand kids. So I think these suggestions should be put into perspective

Big time fan of your reviews. I have ordered a regular G80 in Canendish Red. I was concerned that I was missing out not getting the Sport package but you just confirmed that I made the right decision. Thank you and keep on doing that thing that you do so well.

I love the way it looks... it looks definitely more cohesive than its previous generation.

I love this channel and it's attention to detail. For example, just look at 4:01.

Great review, as per usual. I really love how how, even though I am not at all the target demographic for this (or many cars you review), it still makes you think and digest the product more than you ever would with most reviewers. Truly appreciate the attention to detail you guys out into your product reviews. Don't ever start to dumb it down & focus on 0-60 and press release bullet-points! Small side note; am I the only one who noticed something weird with the focus in many scenes of this? Not sure if it was intentional or not, but I was not a fan. I typically find the cinematography, music selection, and overall assembly of your videos perfect. This one seemed a bit strange at some parts...

It sounds entirely scipted, monotone, and almost irritated they have to review cars.

Your videos are incredible. The shots of the car blended with the music is some of the best of any YT car reviewer. Still can’t believe you have less than a million subs!

What a great surprise to have this come out right when I wake up for my work commute.

Love your reviews and technical breakdowns. The CT4/5 Blackwing videos are especially great. I hope you feel better... Fecal incontinence has got to be a tough thing to deal with.

We came to Genesis from Lexus and my father was so impressed he bought out his lease; two consecutive Genesis vehicles. First one went 229,000 miles before it was sold.

The majority of owners don't and don't know how to push cars to their limit making this a better option and you get a better ride and cabin than the 5 series. I can't wait to purchase one in the coming months. I own a g70 now super fun to drive but need more cabin space

Genesis is following the 90's Lexus playbook almost to the word and I'm loving every second of it. The only difference is the Genesis line-up has real style that stands out in the crowd and the interior designs are really special to each model and I truly appreciate Hyundai putting the effort to make Genesis stand out as a true luxury brand unlike some other OEM's (cough, cough Cadillac).

No, they're not following the Lexus playbook, in multiple ways. Lexus started with a dedicated free-standing, all-new dealer network where anyone who wanted in had to agree to unprecedented standards of customer service. The cars themselves were built with astounding quality, and when the first LS's got a defective third brake light, they recalled every single car and gave a loaner -- unheard of at the time. And right up front, they created the best parts network in auto history, unlike Genesis that sometimes leaves you waiting a month for a part. No similarity.

I chose a 2016 CTS over a 2016 G80 a while back.... Big mistake that was. I really like this car

The car, as are all Genesis models, is amazing and unique, a standout when you see one on the street! BUT I just cannot wait for them to get separate dealerships, having to deal with Hyundai is like a coin toss at best, and good luck finding an exact trim to test! Plus, it is hard mentally to come to a Hyundai and spend 60-70k+ there... Mr. Goose, do you have any info on their dealerships?

Our regions genesis and hyundai dealers are famously bad. That said down south specifically texas and fl, hq claims the experiences are much better.

@@jackholmes8105 I'm in Austin area, one is God awful, another is good in terms of people, but the dealership is just a Hyundai barn... After being at BMW and Lexus dealers it is a hard pill to swallow. I struggle to convince my wife that GV70 is the bettest SUV at/under 50k just due to dealership impression alone.

For someone like me who prefers comfort and don't like to take the car to its limits, I prefer this over the regular g80. Better looking inside and out and quicker in a straight line. Go genesis! Really rooting for the underdog. I have a BMW but with their recent design trends...I have low expectations.

Makes me think of the sonata n line. The built a hardcore cruiser car and tried to inject some sport into after the fact. Then they ultimately ran into a price ceiling. Because it seems like it needs some major changes under the skin to turn this into a sport model.

Genesis needs a major overhaul in dealer experience. If you want to move forward as luxury auto maker, you can't mix Hyundai and Genesis dealerships into one.

Love the use of focus in some of the interior shots! Kind of reminds me of a 1990s car commercial

I had a 15 Genesis 3.8 Sedan as my first "all by myself" car, I could see that they were very heavily trying to cut into the competition and they hadn't quite found their direction, but were getting there. After it got totaled due to a Prius (lol) I've always watched what they come out with as I have a weird love for the brand and I like to see them come into their own. They're killing it if you ask me and I would love to get a G70 3.3t someday down the line and I'm happy to see this brand really do well.

I’ve had a couple of mechanics look at my Stinger, and everyone of them were impressed by the build of the car.

As usual, you guys have provided a great review with excellent insight. With this vehicle, I really wish Genesis maybe had a little more grass-roots track time development. These vehicles are no longer the pure value play that they were a few years ago. The vehicles are quite good, but in this segment the pricing is too close to the 540 or A6. I believe the vehicle is worth its pricing, just that 95% would pay a little extra for a 540 or A6. All good vehicles.

Don't buy new, the values drop like a rock. Slightly used, you'll save 10's of thousands. My 2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0L Ultimate AWD was $50k CDN with 10,000kms on it... and more recently, I traded it in for a G90 5.0L Ultimate and that cost me $60k CDN with only 5000kms on it. The G90 retails in Canada for $90k, saved a good $30k on it.

I have driven many A6 and my 2020 AWD Stinger 3.3TT GT and my new Mazda CX-30 Premium Plus Turbo are both better then an A6--problem is with AWD the germans are in the 70k range plus--a basic A6 with a 4 cylinder is 65k new and my mazda beats it in every category including the interior.I had my stinger a year and a half--went to the track and had zero problems--I sold it simply because the price skyrocketed and I was able to pick up a mzda CX-30--BTW I actually went to look at a GV70 3.5 TT AWD and the Mazda was a demo trade in and after driving the Mazda--I bought it and pocketed almost 10k--and I own it.Hyundai genesis--KIA after 2018 have almost closed the gap on the germans and mazda definetly has--a fully loaded Q3 is 17k more--slower--1DB louder at cruise and the interior and stereo (of the CX-30)are rated with the Q3's top tech package.Also oil changes on my stinger were 70 dollars for synthetic--Audis are like close to 250 dollars and I am sure the bimmer is the same--not worth it.

I honestly like the previous generation sport design more, it looked more sporty. This one is still nice tho

The proper way to drive a BMW or M-B is to lease one, 3 years maximum. After that all the maintenance nightmares are inherited by the buyer who wants to try to impress others with his expensive car. Been there, done that; I'll stick with Japanese and Korean reliability and low cost of ownership.

I agree with you that the Sport pkg should be skipped and you should just order the regular G80 **except** Hyundai decided that if you want a V6 the only way to get it is to get the Sport pkg, all wheel drive and all wheel steering. Adds $5k of bloat to the sticker and really removes it from consideration.

A car you wouldn't be embarrassed to use to take two friends out for a cod sandwich. Lighting in video captures the luxury aspirational feeling well.

I think Genesis is on the brink of elevating their name with the newest models. They're literally everywhere in Korea now, more so than the German brands, which are a well established status symbol.

Eh, local markets usually support local manufacturers. Come talking about it when Germany has more Genesis vehicles than the top 3!

I like all those added dirt pockets in the wheels, I really needed an excuse to spend more time in the driveway washing my car.

As always, long term Hyundai Kia issues keep me at bay, but seems like the lighting was off either by design or by accident. Couldn’t really see any interior detail. Kinda dark. Good reporting and info

4:01 finally an infotainment system with my needs front and center

Not really the target demographic for this car but I will say it's really cool seeing how upmarket previously "economy" brands are moving. Genesis looks like a great alternative to the more entry level American or German luxury offerings. Of course, there isn't really a lineage or brand mythos for the brand to fall back but, it's cool seeing these manufacturers rapidly evolve their offerings. The era of the end of combustion cars has been a lot more exciting than the boring stuff we got in the 2000s and 2010s due to the recession. Mazda for instance is a really standout brand with their more normal people oriented cars being so incredibly refined for their price points.

I love these cars the problem is the leases are atrocious. I tried to trade my Stinger GT and lease a G80 for literally two weeks. The lowest lease price I was quoted was almost what I can lease a 7 series for.

That’s because their residuals are shit. Leases pat for your lease term’s estimated depreciation of the car, so first 2-3 years. If the car depreciates a lot, the lease will be high. If it doesn’t, it will be lower.

I wonder if genesis would ever touch the sports car segment. I would love to see the Genesis attention to detail and value in the 2 door market.

Great, great review. This car is DEFINITELY on my next purchase list...if I can find one. I currently have the 2018 Sport, which apparently has most of the "Prestige Package" adds. So I'm a little spoiled already. Thanks for the info. The packages were a little confusing for me at the onset of my research, since mine seems to have nearly all that was offered at the time, except AWD and a heated steering wheel. P.S. Couldn't unsee the hilarious reference to colorectal leakage at about the 4:10 mark. 😀

To be fair, fully loaded the G80 Sport is about $71k and the 5 Series equivalent $78k or so. Obviously depends on colors and option packages selected about those would be about apples to apples. I agree with the assessment that at this price point people can afford to extra to get more performance from the Germans.

In Canada, a fully loaded g80 goes for 72k probably a bit more for the sport, while an equivalent e class or 5 series goes for 100k or more

Why worry about the dealer experience, if you really like the car? I have owned and maintained Genesis products (original Hyundai Genesis sedan 2015, 2018 G80 Unlimited currently G70Sport) . Besides being trouble free, the dealer experience and be avoided entirely if you choose. They will bring you a loaner, and drop off your car when finished. ALL maintenance except tires/brakes are included for 3 years and 36,000 miles (which can be matched to a lease term if you are concerned). PS Love these reviews!

Just replaced my 5.0 Tau with one of these 2023 and completely excited to receive it.

In spite of what you say about past models, I LOVE my 2018 G80 Sport w/ 365HP twin turbo. All black including all glass excepting the windshield. Admittedly, I traded a 2009 Camry, so…still. I adore this car and will drive it many more years. Holding out for the G80 Sport Hover!

That's true...but Mark is a notorious Hyundai hater (think it has to do with a dealership experience he had). So hating on Hyundai / Kia / Genesis has been a common behavior..

Music at the beginning is so on point! Very appropriate for a silent Hwarang (Korean Ninja) who's definitely focused on dethroning its Japanese competitors. There's nothing that the Japanese currently have that can rival this.

I look forward to them selling at least tens of them.

I’ve seen at least three 21+YM genesis g80’s. In my entire life.

Ironically this sounds like a review of the “new” 1989 Lexus LS400.

@@ekgcanadianenthusiast9961 genesis is doing exactly what Lexus did when they launched the brand, Undercut the competitions pricing and over deliver on new features and quality …sadly nowadays Lexus has been taking their sweet time getting the interiors “NICE” again I drive a 2010 LS460 but Lexus has gotten expensive without giving too much quality

I prefer the shape/looks of my 2019 G80 Sport. Added a trunk lid spoiler & a rear window spoiler recently; love it.
