    At about the 29 minute mark the system starts adapting to figure out that slippery terrain you were attempting. But Everytime it was starting to work, you hit the brake. I think you would've made it up all of the way. But I know it was a risk. Good video!

    Momentum is a cheap crutch for offroading. It can work but it's also a fanastic way to break and prematurely wear driveline and chassis components. The hardest but best method for offroading like this is slow and steady.

Watching the unibody flex whenever a wheel lifted off the ground, lacking skid plates and protection from the middle back, and the lack of 4LO and lockers make this the meanest gravel driveway vehicle at the shopping mall. Sorry, I'll give it more credit - at The Home Depot or Lowe's.

There was nothing in the video that a mere FWD car couldn't handle, any FWD car from any era not something with traction control, as long as it had appropriate tires.

We do have the Ranger which is a nice truck but it's still bigger than a European parking spot so you can't go shopping with it or take it in the city where it simply won't fit. Great video content! You provide the “real” world off-road use ability. I have always used BFG KO2 on my Jeep JKU and Porsche Cayenne; mainly due to their more aggressive tread pattern and strong sidewalls. I suspect the KO2’s would have given you the traction needed. However I ALWAYS air down when off-roading for the additional traction and better ride comfort. It would have been interesting to see how well the Maverick FX4 would have done aired down. Nevertheless this video has shown that waiting for the Tremor with its “locking” rear differential is the way to go. Thanks, great review.

    Good vid👍 Drove the Lariat today. Loved the interior, but not sure the ride was a nice as the Santa Cruz IMHO. I could feel more of the road cracks coming through than the Santa Cruz, but the Mav really did well when hitting bigger holes and dips. And I could definitely feel more power from the larger 2.5 in the SC. Mav does not seem to have a low enough starting gear. Over all, it felt very nice. The simplicity of the Mavs interior might win me over. Cheers

    So the Maverick is an awesome car with a truck bed for utilitiy. I'm ordering a hybrid for the economy to replace a 2 door Jeep Cherokee which never goes off road and will be keeping my 4x4 F250 for the real big jobs. Great video as always 😊

    I'm fairly confident if you gave it a running start you could have maneuvered up and over the slick area. But I get it your vehicle its your call and why risk injury or damaging your new ride! Fun ride all the same and thanks for the review of the tires.

    Great review and awesome adventure through the snow! I recently got some Hankook Dynapro AT2s, but would have considered these Trail Terrains had they been out as I do think BFG does a great job (and with the KO2 as a sibling, you know these will be a great tire as well).

    @@jasonbrushett3 I noticed some wet weather issues, but feel it’s as much to blame (at least on my F-150) due to the light rear end. Front end grip seems par for the course in the wet. I will say snow and ice performance exceeded my expectations slightly. The two times I used them going up the mountain, they worked really well on both more icy roads leading up and on deeper snow around the lodge we went to. Maybe not the best out there as a general tire, but certainly decent enough for my use, though will probably choose a stronger wet weather rated tire might be better since I’m in the PNW and it’s quite wet from Sept to April.

    Ryan, I had a 2017 Ford Explorer with essentialy the same drivetrain as your Maverick. I did have a larger engine (3.5 V6 NA). I experienced the same kind of Off-road performance as you did. The least little bit of mud or mild hill climbing would always defeat it. I kept it for a year and traded it in on a Tacoma Off Road and never looked back. That type of full time 4 wheel drive with no locker and no low range will always fail when it runs into the slightest difficulty.

    If this is what you call scenic, than you must not get out very much. I've seen run down back yards look better than this. Just a washed up loggers road. 18 wheelers haul down these roads all day long.

    Happy to see another one of your Maverick videos and I hope to see more. I have the same color FX4 Maverick (Though mines an XLT) with Toyo AT3s on it. I don't plan on doing anything more than what you're doing here. This comment section is falling victim to how difficult it is to show how tough a section of trail is on camera. You lose that sense of depth you have in person. I think you could've done that last bit with some Jeremy Clarkson brute force, but it would be foolish and dangerous with that drop off to the left. What other Aftermarket do you see yourself adding to it?

    I've been looking at Toyota Tacoma TRD but I may have to go take a look at one of these new trucks because I like the size. I hope Ford will offer a 4-door Access Cab version of this for those who would rather have a longer bed vs seating for four. An option for 16" wheels instead of 17" or 18" would also be nice. A locking diff option and full time all wheel drive would be nice too. And hopefully the aftermarket will offer a lift kit soon. Some of the trails I come across are way more intense than in this video.

  • @Honeybadger_525
    @Honeybadger_5252 жыл бұрын

    I think the Maverick would have made it over the last hill, if the truck had some way to "lock" the rear diff like the Bronco Sport. Too bad it's not currently an option. Also too bad that you can't get the FX4 package with the steel wheels that come with XL trucks. Aluminum wheels have a tendency to shatter when you take a decent hit from a rock, whereas steel tends to deform. I know from personal experience.

    I know the Santa Cruz and Ridgeline are obvious competition, but I'd love to see this compared to a Baja and especially a second-gen Sport Trac with the IRS! Also, Firestone Destination M/T would be great off-road tires for you, since they are *way* smoother and quieter than you would expect. If not this, your 4Runner would love them.
