So as ironic luck would have it, I literally just got this exact same code and my Lightning entered into the limp mode. I was able to clear the code using a OBD app which oddly restored power and allowed me to drive it to the dealer. They found module 4 to be bad. Any thoughts on if these are just a random couple examples of failure or a real concern that all the packs eventually will be vulnerable to this? Did Ford offer any insight in to what causes this?

Great video. Looks identical to the one I just had to change last week. Like the one featured in the video, mine too was a dual motor extended range battery. About the only thing different than what was illustrated in the video, was the module I had to replace. I had to replace module #6 which is the last of the top three, so thankfully I didn't need to remove the top three modules as well as the BECM to the one you had to in your video. From my experience, I found those cold plates to be extremely flimsy. When lifting the module off, I was getting hung up on the studs. Also, when applying the TIM, I realized the template provided didn't align properly to the bolt holes on the end, so I had to tape the template into the plate, apply the TIM, scrape off the excess very carefully as instructed by the workshop manual, and then lift the template off carefully before being able to install it onto the pack, and then in turn, lower the replacement module carefully on the of the cold plate without smearing the TIM as it is lowered. A very tedious task it was. My biggest pet peeve of the job was the time taken to balance the replacement module. I had to leave mine on the balancer overnight before the process would complete. So in the meantime, I have one of my bays tied up with the HV battery removed, and the top cover removed, waiting. The other bother for me, was waiting for the coolant bleed procedure to complete with FDRS. It took about two hours for that process to complete, so I had to have a charger connected to the LV battery, as well as the laptop charger connected during this (so that the laptop battery wouldn't die mid process!!!). So for me, raising and lowering of the HV battery itself wasn't the difficult part. But the rest of it....

@@RedneckCam666 it would likely fall onto deaf ears as you know. I was informed by Hotline that the balancing process would be very time consuming, no getting around that. As far as how long it would take would depend on numerous variables, including but not limited to the level of charge the replacement module arrives at. As far as complaining goes, I only wish the required information on the original module to be replaced, could have been obtained without having to drop and disassemble the HV battery so as to increase efficiency in future repairs going forward.

Thats interesting , info , its important when designing products that repairability is considered , seems like a messy long drawn out process to replace a module. Imagine it should take about 3 hrs total to do for the first time , and about 1.5 hrs once your dialled in. But at least the battery is broken down into modules unlike the Tesla where the whole thing is one big glued up mass.

Not much to do after replacing a module other than clearing fault codes. You need to put it on a charge & the BECM will ballance all the cells as needed. As for upgrading the entire battery, the BECM "Battery Energy Control Module" would need to be programmed to let the rest of the vehicle know about the extra capacity. That might be a bit of a challenge as software is tightly controlled by Ford for each vehicle

Maybe I’m just an old dinosaur , but I miss the days when the owner could lift the bonnet and actually repair stuff without the need for computers and dedicated factory software and or a specialist someone that knows how to use it , or the need for a vehicle to be in a state of repair for possibly up to a week or more. A time is coming or is here where a vehicle can be completely disabled by either a battery or the software, or both and if the owner is not in the vicinity of a tilt tray and a dealer they are screwed.
