Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I finally got the chance to test ride the Ducati Multistrada V2 S model. Wow, what a bike. For the price point, you really can't go wrong.

Do you think the price point of the Ducati Multistrada V2S allows it to compete with some of the Japanese motorcycles?

  • @michaeldobson8859

    @michaeldobson8859

Yes, I think that its critical for Ducati to lead in price with a quality product like the V2S. I think Ducati marketing hit the mark when they put out the scrambler at a very market friendly price. It was clearly a home run for Ducati. Ducati instantly became a mass market member. The V2s continues that but at a higher level. I think next it is necessary to take the scrambler and build a Multi version of the scrambler engine at a 500CC Honda price point. Add more mass market appeal to the brand. Bring in more market share, expand dealership accessibility to buyers. After that i think a big touring bike, like a V4T with a shaft drive or a belt drive. A shaft drive V4 would. Need to be a rotated 90 degree larger displacement V4 engine with a BMW RTish fairing protection with luggage. Focused on the two up touring crowd. Its a little bold but there is market share in the BMW RT crowd.

Depends on where you are! This is over $25K in Australia. That’s close to Africa Twin pricing. Tenere, V Strom 800/650, are significantly cheaper here. Euros like the Tuareg are 2.5K cheaper. Mind you - I reckon this one is the most road oriented- it’s really a sports tourer, not an ADV. the lack of owner serviceability in the bush puts me off. Have you done an air filter in one of these? You’re plowing through the desert, and need to check the air filter. Off goes a stack of plastic and bolts, and have to remove the tank! But as a sports tourer, on road, this will be great!

Dude! Thanks VERY much for this great review. You hit everything I needed know and really appreciate your honesty. Love the V4S but it is 24k above this bike in Thailand due to the tariffs on import liter bikes. So i had to settle for the V2 on my budget ( it’s 22k usd here) and have one on order. Thanks again and a cold beer waiting for you over here if you ever make down this way. Cheers.

I have the exact same year and model. The bells and whistles are fantastic. My only three "fusses" after 3k miles are that (1) I have Givi hard bags and mounting/demounting this thing loaded is an adventure. I'm 5 10", so not a complete shrimp. I have to use the pegs and feel the kickstand is too weak for this process. (2) jacking with the chain / having to clean and lube it after a long day or 2 on the road as opposed to the shaft drive on my BMW R9T aka city bike. (3) the fuel gauge and I are going to have a serious conversation. Otherwise Wow!

REMBO. You missed on the front and rear suspension specs. THe correct description of the front suspension is that it is fully electronically adjustable rebound and compression damping (Left fork only) with manual spring preload adjustment (right fork only). Rear suspension is fully electronically adjustable rebound and compression damping control with electronically adjustable spring preload. Both front and rear suspension being “Sky Hook” controlled in other words semi-active controlled. Definitely a mouth full.

Great review, from your perspective! As a shorter rider I'd probably go for the low seat. Styling is spot on, glad they're getting away from the exaggerated 'beak'. Color combo is subjective but l ilke this one. A bit off topic here, but when did manufacturers get away from cast brake/fluid reservoirs? Seems like an obvious cost reduction measure, and I for one miss them. Silly, I suppose 😁

Appreciate the honest and straight forward review and all the details you included about the bike in it. The Multistrata V2 is a bike I’m very interested in buying but there is one item that could be a deal breaker for me, Engine Heat. I too live in Florida and I do a lot of riding in stop and go traffic with long periods of time stopped at red lights. As you know the summer heat lasts forever here. I wouldn’t be happy with a bike that puts out a lot of engine heat, been there done that. I always wear a full face helmet and enclosed shoes but my other riding attire is typically a tee-shirt and shorts. I know, I know but that’s not going to change. I test rode a 1200 Monster at Bike Week 4 or 5 years ago and was surprised at how much heat it put off. Although I’d have to admit I was flogging it, the outdoor temperature wasn’t high at the time. (March) Needless to say, I didn’t buy the bike. How hot is it for the rider on the V2, in city traffic, on a sweltering hot day? Might consider the Multistrata V4 also. I saw somewhere that the fairings are designed to reduce engine heat reaching the rider but I don’t know how effective that is when you’re sitting in traffic? I personally would like to have the extra power even though I’d have to agree with you it’s not needed. I do prefer the sound of the V2 more and the lower price tag but in the long run the price difference isn’t a problem if it’s more enjoyable to ride year round in Florida. Like the Hypermotard and Streetfighter too but I don’t believe you can get them with factory saddlebags? I need to do more research.

Hi Rembo, just found your review of this V2S. I decided to sacrifice my 22 Pikes Peak for a daily commuting SUV. For me the new PP is the best all around bike I have ever owned or ridden. With my budget being lower for a new bike, I focused my attention on the V2S. I am waiting for delivery and decided to purchase it without a demo ride as the majority of the reviews have been excellent. Great to hear that you are impressed with it based on your experience with the V4's. I added the spoked wheels to my V2S as I intend to do some light off road with it. Thanks for providing another comprehensive unbias review.

Thanks for your reply. Could I ask 2 follow questions on your V2S experience? 1. Did you notice much buzz and vibration in the seat, bars, or pegs from either running at high revs in 3rd or 4th, or at highway speeds in 6th? 2. Was the fueling and on/off throttle transitions smooth in low-speed traffic in 1st and 2nd, or was the throttle snatchy/choppy? Also FYI, while in Sarasota this winter the Yamaha dealer here held a demo day and there were many models available to ride, including the Tracer 9GT. It was escorted and there was no highway, but some Japanese dealers do hold demos. Check out the events section of the manufacturers website to see the demo locations across the country. That's how I found this one.

I love the look of both and power and handling I'm good. My only issue is that the MS will be better for longer rides but MG sweet sharp look and I like more torque bikes. Great, detailed and balanced review as ever 👍 I gotta say, that I think the V2, with its new paint scheme, is by far the best looking adventure bike, of any manufacturer….and better looking than the V4 too. I’m guessing the next V4 facelift will switch to this….. I agree with you that the bike is brilliant, feels great and handles well, but my only gripe is that on a long hill, especially with a pillion, (or any weight in the panniers) the engine had to be worked a little hard to make effective passes, with the revs feeling somewhat strained, and a slightly disappointing surge. I found the GS had the same problem to be fair, though of course with a lot more torque at lower speeds. No such problem on the V4.

@@benkelly2190 no, I’m talking about the 1250GS. At lower speeds it’s great, but once you are up to highway speeds or passing on long hills, the 1250GS feels asthmatic when asking any more of it. I also found that at 75 or 80mph the GS feels that it’s revving higher than necessary, and would be much more relaxing on long runs at those speeds with a taller 6th. It certainly has the torque to cope with a taller 6th when cruising (as opposed to passing, for the reasons I’ve mentioned).

I've been waiting for an English review of this bike, but it seems like this "review" was mostly a comparison to your V4. I understand offering such a comparison, but many people (like me) who are looking at this bike are likely looking at similar sized competition (Tiger 900 GT, Tracer 9 GT, GSX100GT, F900XR, NT 1100 in Europe, Versys 1000). You make passing mention of 2 of these bikes, but no comparison at all. Hey viewers, remember to get the opportunity to review bikes the reviewer cant say negative things or will not be given the opportunity . Its just the facts they wont tell you. I will tell you these v twins rear cylinder will heat you up and in my case the seat was cooking ya. They wont mention that. Some folks cant put it together that's happening in the heat of the summer. V4S had to address this issue, I traded my Ducati and have another now but with no vtwin, fantastic bikes but slow traffic hot day suks... enjoy my friends stay informed.

That is an interesting take. The V2 is always had a heating issue except with this multi-Strada. All of the other V2 and V4 bikes that Ducati makes certainly are hot to sit on. I did not give a great review to the triumph, I am always pretty honest. Remember, I only have these bikes for about an hour

I mentioned this in my comment too. On the flat I think the V2 is fine, but when on a hill, and making a pass, especially with any weight on the back (but even without), I found the V2 to struggle and need more revs than I’d like, for very little forward reward. Had to go for the V4.

I find the V4 could do with a few extra horses . 170 at the crank but by the time that gets to wheel to push the heavy weight around it is a tad underpowered .

@@andrewberg2361 try it with the full akro…… it still isn’t up with a 200hp superbike, but it makes a noticeable difference to power and torque…… and sounds better too 😃👍 I think the main issue with the V4 in terms of pushing much higher speeds, is the frontal area and wind resistance, as opposed to its weight, because once you are up above 150hp, the limit to acceleration is more about keeping the front wheel down.
