Dude I absolutely love your videos! They are so informative and easy to follow and understand. Good to have a fellow geek such as yourself make and provide these videos, to not only display the latest network technology, but to also consider practical network and security configurations to implement. I will be upgrading our Wi-Fi network at church and have learned a lot regarding Unifi/Ubiquity from your videos. Kudos and thanks!

After my 3750x hobby switch died I needed a replacement. I picked up the UDM Pro SE and love it. Thanks for posting this and will help with better infrastructure management. I also discovered this replaces my centurylink fiber router with pppoe settings and went a step further of wan failover. Cool product!

This guy is great, explains things simply and when he uses an acronym, he actually explains rather than me going onto Google and finding out POE means Path of Exile, Don’t know how a computer game refers to cables, but at least this guy explains it’s actually Power Over Ethernet

This is really everything one needs to set up his network. Love it, couldn't be better. Thanks man! Oh, yeah, what's missing is the connection from the ISP-modem in bridge mode to the Dream machine.

Mr Miller, As a complete novice, I was able to set up my home network in a few hours, following your incredibly informative and easy to follow set up tutorial video. THANK YOU !!! My Network: - UDM-SE - Unifi Network Pro 48 PoE switch - (5) U6 -Long Rang WiFi access points - Cameras and door bell to follow I was able to set up a super fast, secure access point WiFi network through my home and yard. I am extra grateful for the concise explanation you provided on creating additional networks, rules & permissions, and security measures. None of which is explained in simple layman's terms at Ubiquity or anywhere else for that matter. I hope you continue to do additional videos on best practices/ maintenance/ advanced user tips and tricks for us novices, especially as firmware updates and features evolve. Again, thank you.

Thank you for the update UniFi. Something you can add to this is using special characters or spaces in your Wi-Fi name/SSID or password can create issues with certain devices for some reason. I guess older technology or what not. Hopefully that saves somebody to extra stress.

Thanks for the video! Is there a reason to set individual firewall rules like you walked through to restrict IoT for example from the main VLAN, vs. just selecting the Vlan network type ' Guest', which does that automatically? Or does that only work when 'Guest Hotspot' is enabled / only for wifi?

Recently watched a video from Shane Whatley where he made POE cameras HomeKit enabled. If you set up a VLAN for your exterior cameras so they don’t see the rest of the network, would it still be possible to use the workaround so they are viewable in HomeKit and stored via HomeKit SecureVideo?

  • @cue03

What would you do for firewall rules etc for outdoor APs? How to ensure that those external ports (connected via poe to some outdoor u6 mesh’s etc) on the switch are protected in case someone disconnects the outside cable that goes to the AP and connects to the wire directly? Also in your video example will your phone still work to control the apps for the devices on the IOT network? Your phone is on your internal netwrok and say the oven or lutron lights are in the IOT, how do I control the lights or the oven with their native apps?
