A bike with the look of the BSA Goldstar, with a 650 ccm engine and with the sound of the RE classic 350 would be my dream bike.
Unfortunately the engine sound does nothing to make me want to buy the motorcycle!

@@itsmeee7364 Compare to RE new 2022 350 classic. RE beats BSA with no questions. Only wish now RE introduces a 500cc or 650 cc single Classic. 😌👍🙏I will purchase one when it comes.. BSA leaves one a bit cold. The nice look is destroyed with huge radiator and sound is of a sewing machine..its a shame since otherwise its a spoton bike. Lets see what they do to develop it in future😌👍

It sounds dreadful to my ears. The sound sure ain’t selling it. 😕
Well, not what I was expecting! I used to ride an Ariel Red Hunter 500 and that was a chuffer and later a Yamaha SR500 which was a wheezer (friends called it a lawnmower) and this sounds like a buzzer!
It just doesn't sound like a 650 single. Listen to a 1300 cc v twin. The thumps should be as low and deep on a single like this one. That exhaust pipe must be small in diameter... or something. What you see there is a heat shield. It sounds like a 1" pipe. Pip pip pip pip
@ruahinesrider

It looks quite thin at the join from header pipe to the long as muffler.
Only if it was a long stroke engine, this oversized big bore lacks the thump character, sure it'll accelerate like a KTM but no fun riding it slow
The engine doesn't sound good to me. My RE 500 classic sounds much better. It sounds like the engine has a short stroke. What's the bore and stroke for this BSA 650?
@nickbergquist6222
2 жыл бұрын
Think it's derived from the Rotax 650cc single used by BMW. If correct that would make the bore/stroke 100x83mm. So short-stroke and over-square. Expect power distribution towards the top end of the rev. range and not as much torque down below as might be expected by some. I would forget that old thump-thump experience of a heavier flywheel long-stroke engine as fitted to many British singles of the '50s and '60s.

@@nickbergquist6222 even if slower the Enfield 350 will be far more characterful with it pulling well from tickover. A shame they bought in an engine which completely the wrong character. I rode a friends 500 Classic bike a few times here in Spain. It had that slow soothing melodic thump I remember so well from the sixties. The reason it sounds like the original is because the modern versions of Enfield's are like the 'originals'... using modern materials and metallurgy... Royal Enfield got it spot on..BSA have a way to go....and not with this example. Anyone who remembers the 'Goldie' just ain't gonna buy this...thats my opinion anyway !
Thank you, but no thank you. It's sounds absolutely dreadful in comparison to an old big british single. Baffle removed or not, this bike is of no comparison to the original BSA Gold Star, that has a sound to die for. Classic Royal Enfilelds also sound great too.. But not this bike, that lacks that deep thump, thump, thump. It's sound s like a short stroker, and lacks what an elderly biker is looking for in a big single.. particularly that radiator. Totally uneccessary.
@brianperry

There was a marginal improvement in the sound with Baffle removed, however its a million miles away from the Bike its supposed emulate...The 'Goldie'. The only way to achieve anything like the original is to replicate its engine with modern technology and metallurgy ... this a poor 'replica', anyone who owned or lusted after one will never buy this...I don't believe Royal Enfield need worry about their sales figures
@anythingoldmechanical

@@brianperry Absolutely. I've no idea what was going through the designers heads when creating this, but the type of biker, who would lust after a Goldie, certainly wouldn't want this at all. Yes, I understand all this stringent emissions malarkey, but this bike lacks every characteristic of a proper Goldie. I would rather save my money, and go for a resored 'common' BSA B31/B33. . Much better than this dreadful creation, and also an appreciative investment!
@xtc2v

@@anythingoldmechanical Its a modern designed Rotax. Short stroke with high compression to get out more power. Its problem has little to do with emissions regs. BSA should have done their own B31 copy using the same bore, stroke and compression ratio but with a counter-balancer and the necessary fuel injection. Clearly those in charge at BSA are all car driving accountants!
"A well-tuned British big single turns over lamp post to lamp post." Old Brit singles achieved that with long stroke engines with heavy flywheel and monobloc carb.
I would take this with a pinch as 9 times out of 10 listening to bikes on KZread sound nothing like it in the flesh
Standard sounds like baffle removed in reality. I assume the baffle removed will sound even better. Rode it last Saturday in Germany on a Demo, official demo bikes with baffle mounted!
I have a feeling that if this thing was decated and possibly straight piped, it would sound really good.... Nothing like an old carburetted air cooled BSA, obviously, but it would sound fairly good, nonetheless.
Cool
This is not the deep howling thump sound of the goldstar 500...it is sounds like a duke 390
@BikingChap

Funny i thought that and that is not in the least bit torquey for a 390cc single.
Sounds Good for a Single! Thumper is the right word for it. And it was a gr8 to see the difference & comparo!
An OHC engine will never sound as hearty as a push rod engine.
It needs the Goldie whistle.
@anythingoldmechanical
2 жыл бұрын
That can never be achieved with a light flywheeled short stroker single, what breaths through an obviously small diameter exhaust pipe, behind the dummy cover
👂Your audio aesthetics have got to be worked on. Living the dream is great hearing a real Goldie is spiritual experience. A friend of mine has a DBD 34. People will say, "Here's John on the Goldie". He's about half a mile away and can't be seen. When he leaves, People will gather round to watch him kick it up and watch him set off. The sound the new Goldie makes is very important. It needs a bit more Baritone and Bass.
Y'all checkout classic 350 with mini Punjab exhaust, just search it
Atleast they should have made to sound it like re classic 350 cause it’s a beautiful motorcycle the sound doesn’t suit it
The exhaust sound is disappointed for me. It looks engineer sacrifice the spirit of long stroke british engine. But anyway the looks is nice…
Sounds like a lawn mower. Single cylinder needs a long stroke. If you want a new Bike that sounds classic try the new RE 350's.

The new REs sound terrible. For that old Brit single sound you need a heavy flywheel to keep the engine turning over at low rpm especially at idle. The old pre-unit REs had that, and many riders would install the 500cc crankshaft in their 350s to achieve that. Then of course youll get blistering pickup.

@@tryarunm Sure i don't disagree with regard to loudness but you can make a huge difference to the soundtrack in other ways. Listen to a KTM 390 motor and then an Enfield 350. They sound completely different and this is the issue i have with the "GoldStar". They've taken the cheap route and used an available engine and modifying it for use in this bike. Unfortunately they chose to use a single that's relatively short stroke and 'revvy' rather than using a long stroke thudding design. In short they've gone for the cheap option at the expense of character.
Hmm, the water cooling changes the sound, you can’t get the old gold star crack . But beautiful looking retro!
They went with a DOHC and overbore aka oversquare design it seems, sounds like a GSX-R150
Sounds like a KTM !
Well, I guess I will buy an Enfield twin... The sound does not do it for me.
I was under the impression that Euro 5 regulations require that silencers can not be modified llike this. Might be different in the UK meanwhile. One way or the other, this motorcylce does not sound nice at all.
A big no..it's better to ride a 350cc RE.
No goldstar twitter. Just a theme bike. Try it on a short mega.
Sounds crap and the idle is way to high
I'll get a test ride to see how it runs and sounds.
They've chosen the wrong engine. Should be a 650 twin in this day and age to be a success. Royal Enfield will laugh all the way to the bank.
Didn't hear that much of a difference..
First from India Kolkata i have 1923 panther sloper and bsa m20
A little bit disappointed with the sound, still a nice looking bike though.
The exhaust sound is just the same as the jawa bikes mahindra launched. They were a huge failures.
Sorry. It does not sound good. 😒
Qualcast.
Nope...
TRY A OPEN MEGA! IT'S A 650 SINGLE! YOU NEED TO HEAR IT 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Please take my comments as constructive not criticism. I think perhaps a few very small style changes are needed to lift the look of the machine overall and these include a slightly shorter rear mudguard and then exhaust pipe to be a little more swept back looking, would be a good thing. But I cannot see how you have managed to get a euro5 machine on sale with a removable baffle and such engine noise . The engine does appear to be noisy. Overall though I like it and the potential can be great for the future. Best of luck
This should be called duke goldstar 😆 sounds like a duke

Sounds like crap which is expected from a company like Mahindra. These boys want to compete with Royal Enfield but, that takes more than just a pretty face. Sid Lal is a competent leader, can’t say that about BSA. Best to stick to the original Goldstar.
