2022 BRZ - Top 5 LIKES and DISLIKES after 14k miles...
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The updated 2022+ Subaru BRZ is an unmatched value in many ways, but it's far from perfect. If your priorities fall within the things it does well, you'll love it. But if you can't get over these five major drawbacks, you probably need to look for another car to purchase. Learn from my experience over 18 months and nearly 14,000 miles of ownership...

On the passenger side, plastic right above the glove box against the door panel, there is a plastic panel there. Take that off and disconnect the wire you see, no more pumped in engine noise! I wish there was a software way to do it. Did that on mine and was very pleased with the results. just posting here for anyone who hasn't seen a way to remove it before.

Yep. EZPZ, but I told my dealership to do it so they wouldn't try to screw me over warrantee wise.
I find that if you do a slower clutch release during the 1-2 shift to synchronize the revs, it smoothens out the shift. I think the jerkiness is caused by rev hang

Yeah I agree, if I let the clutch slip more between 1-2 it would smooth out a bit. Wonder if those two gear synchros have a different compound or coating than the others which causes them to react differently...
Great review! Thank you for making this video. Your practical video is refreshing and I loved seeing how you use it with your family. We plan to get a BRZ in the next year or two and I've looked many times for KZread videos that just talk through living with it. I hope you make a few more videos! (I have plenty of other questions I'm curious about)

Thanks for watching and glad it was helpful! Don't hesitate to let me know what else you are wondering about!
One of the most honest reviews about the GR86/BRZ… congrats Drew. There are a bunch of reviews but most very biased due to the hype. Do you feel it’s a car you can easily get over it after a couple of years of ownership?

Thanks for the kind words! For me, those negatives weren't something I could get over after a few years of ownership and I did sell it when Carvana gave me more than I paid for it. It actually started to become more frustrating to drive because of the dislikes for me. That's not to say it's not a great option based on the price, but still frustrating when used as a DD.
Rev hang and slow throttle response? Must be different in the US. I have no problem rev-matching and throttle response is as near to instantaneous as I can detect.
I got a VB WRX and get 15-22mpgs when trying to have fun. I consider 27 an upgrade lol
The pedal response from factory is not good. I added a pedal commander and it transformed the car. I took the clutch spring out very early on as well and enjoy that over stock. I too struggle going from 1st to 2nd. It's almost like it grabs harder at that point for some reason. I have also lowered the clutch pedal a bit which seems to help. I average 30mpg calculated, 32.4 on the trip meter daily driving. I do try to get good milage most of the time.

Thanks for watching... glad to hear I wasn't the only one noticing a difference on the 1-2 shift.
I have a ‘23 brz and can say I had the same issue with rev matching, got a pedal commander based on the topher’s recommendation and it makes a huge difference. I think it was about $300 and it’s definitely worth it.

Glad to hear that made a big difference. I had considered doing that but knew this wasn't a long term car for me.
MTEC clutch spring solves issue number 4. I replaced the clutch pedal spring and added the throttle pedal spacer as the first two modes I reached the firts 1k miles.

Would those mods jeopardize my warranty?

Glad you were able to fix a few of the shortcomings. Thanks for watching
So about the shifting between 1-2 that’s a problem in the auto too if you go over 8kmph before shifting it’s not bc you’re abusing the clutch
Super solid review, I own a 2022 auto and the main things I can agree with is the rev hang, it's speed and engine noise. The FA24 seems to make a lot of ticking and clicky noises, you just gotta accept it for what it is lmfao. The automatic for this car sucks too, even in manual mode it takes a good half second or even second to shift when you use paddles, really not responsive at all. Still love the thing to death though but lord do I wish it was just a LITTLE quicker

Shame you got the slush box auto. I get it for ease of driving, but why get one of the last "cheap" pure sports cars if you don't want to actually DRIVE it? I drove the 2024 MT and Auto before getting the MT. The Auto is garbage unless its in "track mode", and it still shifts at weird times and clearly doesn't get anywhere near the proper performance out of the car. The paddle shifters are crazy sluggish. It feels like at least a half second delay.

@@tyrantrex734 I’m with you man, I commute almost 400 miles a week in heavy traffic so I didn’t want to constantly be shifting. Track mode is definitely the only way to drive it and even still I agree with you on how weird it shifts. This transmission has been used in older Lexus is250’s and the last gen brz, shit sucks.

Thanks for watching and for the kind words.
The rev hang/throttle mapping really tilts the scales towards the new Miata for me.

Agreed. At some point, if a fun car (i.e. third car where practicality is not a priority) makes sense for my situation, Miata would be high on that list.
What are you buying to replace it?

Much less rev hang, better engine character, more consistent transmission inputs.
that rev hang is shite even in GR
