A year in now of ownership. 12,000 miles done and love it. Highly recommend getting it remapped though as coming from the mt10 the s1000r felt so dead low down and the low speed lurching did my nut in along with the cold start. The map and black Widow headers have transformed it. The power low down and through the midrange is fantastic. Definitely enough for me anyhow god knows what the 200hp m1000r is like 😂

I have the same model bike and agree with your sentiments. The mods I made are BMW exhaust and dyno tune, bar end mirrors by Dave Austin (don't get BMW as far are no good at high revs & are rather expensive) BMW w/shield, radiator guard and tank protector. It is an awesome bike in the Hockenheim silver and looks so much better with the mods. Having said that a KTM light set or similar would look so much better. Looking forward to your blackbird update. Cheers.

Keep the videos up mate, love them! To be honest the S1000R is not something that has ever interested me. I do like the XR and I love the R1250RT. But I have to be honest, your S1000R looks mint! I actually think its a real sporty looking bike and just looking at it, you can tell its fast! Maybe the looks will grow on you when you make little changes but honestly mate, I love it!

I almost bought a '21 XR i put a deposit on it but before I handed over the cash I just sat on it and it struck me as rather ponderous ya know? And it bothers me BMW made it the proportions of an offroading adv bike yet it is road only? Really undid the deal for me because it is heavy compared to the R and ponderously tall compared to it also. This was last year and I actually bought a Yamaha T9gt instead which I have enjoyed quite a lot (8k miles in less than a year) but now I find myself wishing I had considered the single R originally...I was so fixed on wind protection at the time that I ignored all the nakeds which now I recon is not as big an issue to me as I had assumed (although I STILL wish they came with a windscreen or at least looked better WITH an added windscreen). Right now I am trying to choose between the MT-10SP and the upgraded S1000R something like the one in this video ...something tells me the price is going to well exceed the Yamaha which is already close to $20k out the door US ...But the R is lighter and more refined. But someohow I imagine I will spend a LOT more keeping the BMW up and upgrading it than I would the MT-10SP But idk ...never owned a German motorcycle....it is a scarey proposition

The 1st year br.fluid change is because of the delay from when it was manufactured to when it leaves the dealership floor. If the time from being built to pre delivery inspection surpasses one year, the br.fluid is supposed to be replaced by the dealer, at least this is what the PDI form says. If it has not yet surpassed one year, lets day 11 months, the first br.fluid change after a year of ownership is close to the 2 year regular service schedule. Ask your dealer and they'll be able to give you the manufacturing date. Also, why get rid of the high idle feature? It's there to get the temps up quicker, for correct thermal expansion of parts, as well as heating the catalytic converter. You don't have a cat with a full exhaust, but getting the piston rings to temp quicker is still nice.

That was with full synthetic oil at over 15.00 a quart and a clutch lever adjusment. I'm sure they went over the bike front to rear, BUT, Damn!

I really enjoyed the review, but it would have been so much better if that camera on the left side that's aimed at you was either turned around the other way, or better yet since you have an angle pointing forward on your helmet... If you put that camera behind you pointing out towards everything behind you, that would have been amazing! Just having it pointed at you blocking most of the views is a waste IMO... Especially with your visor down covering your face. I don't understand that camera angle. Other than that, I really liked everything else. Incredible S1000R, by the way! 👍

I had mine for 6 months only, it was the m sport model, I found the suspension to be no where near as good as the equivalent ohlins ec2, the steering damper was worse than useless as the bike was very flighty at high speeds, both fork seals leaked & the down blipper packed in while I was at the tt last year which really pi#sed me off over the mountain section. On the plus side I loved the riding position. I’m now running a 2023 tuono v4 factory which is much more refined in every way, that too has a down side though, fuel economy. 👊✊️✊️

Ironically, I went from a 22 Tuono V4 and can't be happier! I didn't find the electronics particularly good actually. The quickshifter and blipper were average, only improved with a Gabro tune... It vibrated and couldn't use 6th unless you were at stupid speeds or the bike would vibrate, so most of the open road was in fourth or fifth. The clutch was terrible around town and hills, always rattling.

My 18 S1000r has had three issues - hit start issue which was a fuel pump, and two water pumps that had started very minor misting/dribble leak. All dealt with by BMW Motorad without any hesitation. The support, even when out of warranty, has been amazing. Love the bike, love it’s reliability, and love it’s performance, but the support from BMW Motorad is what makes it hard to move to a SFV4 or Tuono V4.

I’ve been riding a 16 fz07 for awhile now and even though I love it and it’s never failed me in any manner, I was thinking about jumping to a s1000r or save for a streetfighter. Would you say the 1kr is worth it for about 13k (how much they’re going for in my area) and would it be a solid upgrade? The only “issues”, I’m using those because it isn’t an issue, is that where I’m at in California the average highway speed is about 85 so I’m filtering and riding close to 95-105 comfortably and the 07 doesn’t seem to have any problems but I feel like the s1kr would just do it a little more comfortable. Also, my riding group is an r7, triumph 675, r1, and an fz09 so I’m the slowest currently. I don’t necessarily want to be the fastest but would this bike be comfortable up there? Obviously I wouldn’t really be going 160 but is it comfortable around 120-130 or is it kinda screaming? That was a lot but thanks.

Because I assume the warranty is gone immediately as far as the entire motor or ecu is concerned ...might even extend to whatever else if they want to be dicks about it. I am shopping new or used s1000r and already came accross one at a decent price but it has a stage 3 tune so even though only a year old AND having BMW service I figure the warranty is pffft

Rye can you hear that cam chain rattle on start up? Im sure you know that this is a common bmw s series issue. However i thought they would've fixed this on gen 3 as it got a new engine. Also you came out of a service and nobody at bmw decided to tell you about this rattle your bike has?

I don't get what the obsession is with naked bikes? I know it's subjective but I had to ride one for a couple of miles on the motorway to my mod 1 test and got absolutely battered by the wind... why do people get them over a faired sports bike?

That's because you rode on a motorway. Bikers avoid motorways

@@BikesofRye I know and I do too. But surely it's the same when you're flying round country roads, just not as much.
