2022 Arnold Strongman Classic | Full Recap

Спорт

Coverage from all five events at the 2022 Arnold Strongman Classic, as re-broadcast on the CBS Sports Spectacular. The competition took place March 4th and 5th in Columbus, Ohio, and featured 10 elite international Strongman athletes, including Martins Licis (USA), Rob Kearney (USA), Oleksii Novikov (Ukraine), and the Stoltman brothers (Scotland). For the first time in a decade, no past Arnold champions were part of the field, meaning a first-time champ was guaranteed to be crowned.
The CBS re-broadcast includes extended highlights from each challenge over the two days of competition: the Double T Squat, Monster Dumbbell Press, Austrian Oak, Timber Carry, and Stone to Shoulder.
For additional highlights, final leaderboards, and more from the 2022 Arnold, visit www.roguefitness.com/arnold-s...
Many of these same competitors will be in action again this fall at the 2022 Rogue Invitational in Austin, TX. To get info or purchase tickets, visit the official Rogue Invitational page here: www.roguefitness.com/theindex...

Novikov’s technique on the dumbbell press is just spectacular. The way he almost acts like a spring in his leg to cushion the weight at the top. I think if all the competitors applied this technique then we would get some crazy results in this event.

@amanginha it’s full body athleticism and explosive power. Strongman isn’t just about raw strict static power. That’s what powerlifting is for. Also he was got the stone to his shoulder while most failed.

I dont think other athletes can apply that technique sadly, Novikov is leaner and smaller so is easier for him to isolate the movement of his hips. Someone like Shaw, Caron or Thor wouldnt be able to tilt the hips to provide that spring like movement.

One thing I noticed while watching this back was look how happy Rob Kearney is at 26:43 when Luke hits the winning lift for the log. They're competitors in this competition and Rob was right up the top of the table, and he was still genuinely thrilled for Luke to make that winning lift. The comradery and sportsmanship in Strongman is second to none, as well as Rob just being such a standup guy.

Wow finally the competition we all wanted! The weights are heavy af, and the line up is all rockstars. WSM has it's place, but it's all too light for my taste. Max squat and max log and I was already sold. Fantastic showing for a lot of the guys too. Stoltman's log, JF on the squat, and Licis on the stones were all pretty awesome to see. Novikov put on a hell of a show as well, as expected.

JF looked like he had more than 1000lbs in the Squat! Novikov was unreal in the dumbbell, I’d say it was historic Luke looked incredible in the log, just perfect technique Maxime on fire on the frame! And the champ, The Dragon, Martins finishing on a high note, winning the last event as usual, his 3rd time in a row winning on stones and beating Tom in all of them

My favorite back squat for max weight was 1981 WSM. Bill Kazmaier defeated Dave waddington with a squat nearly 1,000 lb raw. That is still one of the most impressive feats of leg strength ever done. I honestly don't know how many people in the world today could put 970 lb on a squat rack and come up with it with no suit and next to no wraps.

I will always remember this comp for JF looking like a Machine in the squat. I just wish he was pushed to 1,000+ as he looked good for it. Then Oleksi on the dumbbell, The Highland Oak on The Austrian Oak, little Rob Kearney suprising folks by leading after day one. Maxime with a Matueszesque Frame carry. Great competition. Martins being the perfect blend of size, strength and athleticism, as he preps for comps so well.

this competition is so tough, a bunch of the guys got zero points in some of the events and others went above and beyond. A 257 lb dumbbell 99.999999 percent of people couldn't even drag that around the room let alone lift it up lift it over your shoulder Novikov did it 7 times. Just incredible strength. Martins Licis doesn't look or act like he has super hero strength but geez he dominates. He has such a goofball personality. Just incredible.

It always pains me when I see how some strongmen care SO MUCH about wsm, to the point that they even ignore other wins. WSM is only relevant due to inertia, from tradition or whatever. This competition was way more brutal. I die a little when in WSM you have someone finish 10th because he carried a freaking car tire 4.3 seconds slower then the event winner or whatever.

For a frame of reference on the squats. These guys are 400 lb or so. The best squat, with full equipment and suits, was 966. The Canadian guy might have been able to go 1050 Max. 1981 world's strongest man. Bill kasmire did 970 on the Smith machine with a straight bar, unequipped. The next year in 1982 Dave waddington hit a thousand. Kazmaier only weighed 320 lbs. Dave waddington was around 330. On the one arm overhead press of dumbbells. 1960 Paul Anderson of the state of Georgia did 300 lb for reps on television one armed. He only weighed about 320 lb.
