I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on the GLE vs. The Acura MDX advance sh AWD. The 22 MDX drove far better than the GLE and GLS - even far generously reasonable in price. I expect better from Mercedes but was disappointed since I expected a better drive; it drove like a regular vehicle instead of a powerful, luxurious motor. The MDX drove inspiring luxuriously, resulting in a desire and a wish to go on a long drive. I already know that Acura MDX will only get better. I recommend the MDX. By the way, I love your reviews that made me go test drive the GLE and GLS but chose the MDX. Keep up the good work.

I had two mercedes before I bought the 2022 MDX last april. I also test drove the GLE and there's no comparison with the MDX blowing the GLE away. The GLE was about 80k with nothing exciting about it. With the MDX I get the panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, apple /android car play, third row seating but overall more room. The MDX is buttery smooth. Mercedes has been putting out subpar vehicles for a while now and you're overspending just for a logo

Mdx is the way to go in my opinion, it has no reliability issues. Our family has one for 14 years now on the same Tranny, I see GLEs that are late model stuck on the freeways all the time in South Orange County calif, so If being stuck on the road is your thing, go for the GLE

The 2022 MDX is far better with its smooth handling and you get all of the features, some of which the german vehicles don't possess. I'll bet you drive a chevy cruise. Same old comment about people putting others down about what they can't afford when they themselves can't afford a new luxury vehicle and probably have a 2010 bmw and think theyre spending large. Really good review of the 2022 MDX with a solid emphasis on its advanced features. What I found a bit premature was the comparison to the GLE. §ince this video focused on the features maybe it gets a pass on the comparison. For me, it's not the feature to feature comparison that would lead to a buy decision...it's the after sale durability. Bought my first Acura in 1992, drove it 320,000 miles with no major issues. Bought my second Acura, a 2002 MDX, now with 280,000 miles and still my everyday drive. In 2016 we purchased our 3rd Acura, another MDX for my wife to drive. It wasn't the feature by feature comparison that caused us to buy now 3 Acura products...it was the durability and quality of the products. They rarely ever have service issues which keeps us out of the repair shops. Our experience with the Acura product has been excellent.

A No Brainer for me... MDX Advance with SH-AWD, all the way. Load up the "luxury" competitors : X5, Q7, GLE, XC90... and See the Value here !! Those cars are Thousands more. Acura did a brilliant redesign of this Flagship vehicle. After shopping and researching / viewing many reviews, I got My new 2022 MDX Advance in August, and at 70 YO, haven't been this excited about my new car Purchase (lease) in a long time. One point I would like to make about reviews of 3rd Row SUVs. Everyone makes a big deal out describing the lack of room in the 3rd Row... and not for just this vehicle , many others. If you really need that 3rd Row on a regular basis, then you should get a quality Minivan with AWD. The 2022 MDX is a best in Class Mid Sized SUV , IMHO. Looks of course are subjective, it's he Performance that COUNTS and the reliability. And the Service costs , even just oil changes.. Hold onto your wallets for MB, Audi, BMW, Volvo, and the others.

An Update to my comments 6/22... I got a 2022 MDX Advance in Fathom Blue Pearl with he Gray Leather Interior [Subjective for sure - but I love it]. After nearly 10 months of ownership, I can say that MDX still evokes a smile on my face - the Novelkty has not worn Off!. I definetely don't sweat the 3rd Row - never use it as a 70 year old retiree. Yes, the TTIP (touch pad InfoT. system) does have a "learning" curve. It rides, handles, steers magnificantly. The new front Suspension is something you can Feel. The 10 spd AT is terrific . The ELS Steeo is Spectactular. Like all cars there are Cons: the MPGs are disappointing, a small bit of road noise form the OEM ties on some roads, the poor altered performance of the the Track pad when you engage Android Auto or Apple Car Play (I have Android Phones in the household) which strangley disengages the USB port in the console so you can't play Flash drives while using AA or ACP, the front Radar is disturbed if it cakes up with snow or slush, the wireless charging pad is Flakey at times ???. I will say, that even after the months of ownership, I have yet to "play" with the Toys: the various interior lighting scenarios, and adjusting to the TTIP (it does have a Short Cut icon to make selections very easy), and setting the Individual Mode feature (note that when you start the car each time, it defaults to Normal Mode, but you can simply hit the individual Button to return to our prescribed setings). I am very pleased with my decision. The Type S has now become available, but I don't think I would have layed out an additional $10K for it.

I live in North East and we have heavy snow here couple time a year. One year we had big snow storm and lost power to the house, we have little kids in the house so we decided to pack up and drive to a hotel. Along the way to the hotel we saw so many cars including SUV got stuck on the road or just struggled to keep moving. Fortunately my 2019 MDX was so amazing in the snow and we had no issue. unfortunately my 2019 MDX was totaled due to a recent accident so im on the market for 2024 MDX. Shopped around but nothing can compare to MDX in term of value and reliability.

Yes, in fact, the type S does open the vents in the front bumper. They go to the front brakes. They were planned to be left open in the normal model, and in fact the ducting still exists behind them; however they were blocked off for fuel consumption reasons, and yes any sh-awd model will kick the rear out, the VSA allows some oversteer without intervention though you can still turn it off

Ryan, great thorough review. Interesting comment about the suspension dampening. I have a 2019 MDX Advance package. When you select sport mode , it does stiffen up the dampening affect of the suspension. You didnt point out that the 2022 has 50 ratio tires vs mine with 45 ratio tires. I had a non advance 2019 loaner last year , with 50 ratio tires on 20 inch wheels, and THERE was a difference in the ride comfort in the Sport mode. Previous generation MDXs don't have Snow modes, this one does. Too bad, Acura seems to hzve dropped the Canyon Bronze metallic exterior color as I have with the espresso leather interior. Since I got mi e in June 2019, I have received many compliments on the color, especially when she is all spiffed up..... I will say the model you tested looks very sharp.

Acura Bluetooth disconnection has been a problem for years now. BT randomly disconnect for 3 years on my 2018 MDX with a Samsung S10 and now the same problem with the 2020 MDX and a brand new samsung S21. I am glad you notice the same problem with the BT on the 2022. So many have complained but got brushed aside by the dealer service department as the PHONE PROBLEM. I almost bought a Huyndai Palisade for more cargo room, better 2nd and 3r row seats (Ryan you can comfortably fit in the 3rd row of the Palisade), and better infosystem ergonomics. I personally detest the touch pad on my wife 2019 RDX, so I turned it in 1 year early -with a loss for a 2020 MDX. Ryan, I don't know whether you have any pulls with Acura engineers . If you are , can you relay the user frustration of the random BT disconnect. I use the phone for business a lot while driving so the disconnection/reconnection has been a huge annoyance for a so-called luxury cars. ALso this presents a driving safety issue as the user has to reach for the phone to continue the conversation, thus violating many states' law of hand free calling. Thanks in advance, A long time frustated owner of 5 acura cars.

I’ve been looking forward to this review. It may sound crazy, but when I replaced my ‘06 Acura TL, I decided to go with the first generation RDX (2007-2012) because it had the SH-AWD. The second gen RDX does not, even though it had a V6. I love it. Here soon, I’m excited to see the MDX Type S. I wish they’d do a RDX Type S but I doubt it.

The RDX is just a CR-V underneath. Acura went cheap when there was no SH-AWD in RDX. Don't plan on better sound deadening with Type-S.

I always like your video and watch most if not all your videos. Anyway, if Acura can bring the infotainment screen all the way to the front edge where driver can reach it more easily and make it a touch screen, it would be much better. We all used to touch screen on the phone so it is a much prefer method for me :). Also, the power plant really needs to go above 300hp... my 8 years old 2013 RDX has about the same horse power. Another thing is... Acura probably can learn from KIA and projects the blind spot camera on the dash when the turning signal is activated.

Great review . I also found the 2nd row seating a little tight and uncomfortable and for 62k some of the plastics were cheap in feel and look. Perhaps early builds account for the noise. Maybe a lower trim for around 50k would be the smart buy. Also, the Type S looks nice when it comes out but at what price point?

I'm watching your video for the 2nd time. This Vehicle is Exciting. So, if I have this right, there is no suspension dampening changes when changing drive modes? I own a 2019 MDX Advance which Does change the dampening.. In fact with 45 Ratio tires on 20 inch wheels, when selecting Sport Dynamic Mode, the ride becomes too harsh on rough pavements. In a loaner that I had with 50 Ratio tires, it was better than mine. Notwithstanding that, I believe you mentioned that this MDX comes with 50 Ratio tires...

Thanks for pressing Acura on the suspension settings. I have a deposit on an Advance and have been looking for this answer for a while. Unfortunately Acura’s literature is quite unclear & it was good to hear an explanation directly from Acura. I agree it’s confusing and unfortunate that they lead you to believe the suspension is adjustable in their settings menu. BTW, we are in the Puget Sound area as well & enjoy seeing vehicles tested and reviewed on the local roads. Out of curiosity, what’s the forest road you use to do your off road testing?

Jean, I’m in Canada and I asked my salesperson about the dampers because the Canadian literature mentions adaptive damper system as standard on all trims, and I was confused with all the US reviews mentioning that they are fixed dampers. My salesperson confirmed with Acura Canada that Canadian models are getting adaptive dampers (while US models aren’t). I’m not sure why this decision was made. Perhaps they didn’t want to hurt Type S sales in the US (based on market research). Or it could have also been a supply issue. I have no idea. On one hand adaptive dampers are nice, but on another, they would be more expensive to fix.

Glad I read this comment and heard the exact words on the video right after ! I think because this technology looks exactly like BMW’s, it probably has the same controller or interface without electric dampers on the suspension so they used the input to change the SH-AWD .

The 17-20 MDX Sport Hybrid with 321hp/289tq, 7DCT, Sport+ mode, electronic dampers, regen braking, and tq vectoring was the performance version until the MDX Type-S. The hybrid sh-awd works on and off engine power to help in performance/handling up/down a mountain switchback. A lot of complaints about the info-tainment execution with Acura over the years. Too many buttons, not enough buttons, dual screen sucks, no touch screen, track pad sucks, etc... The track pad is an improvement compared to previous info-tainment from the button heavy 2nd MDX and dual screen 3rd Gen MDXs. Touch screens are nice; but, I hate having finger prints on the screen. Acura just needs to make it a touch screen for those that like touching things. Acura also needs to allow you to go full screen or flip/flop the left/right displays. Next, Acura needs to allow you to move the navi screen into the gauge cluster as an option. Having the option to tilt/swivel the upper screen would also help with glare from the windows and pano sunroof.

Dale, I got my new MDX Advance in August, trading in my 2019 MDX on a early Lease termination deal and $1K Loyalty offer from Acura. Never even looked at MB GLE except on line. Load up the GLE and see the $$$$ differene and value of the MDX !! I usually don't like to use the term LOVE for things... (I reserve that word for people), however, I REALLY LIKE THIS CAR! At 70 YO, and after 1 month of ownership, I'm still feeling like a 12 year old kid who got his favorite XMAS toy. I haven't been this "excited" about a new car in long while. I've had many cars over the years, purchased and leased, and I think this tops the level of excitement of the 2007 Infiniti G35X, which was my first Leap into the "luxury" car from Nissans (excluding a 2004 Pathfinder AWD purchased used - a very good SUV but drank gasolione), Pontiacs, Mitsubishis (a 1988 Galant, was an excellently performing spots sedan in the Top of The Line model), Jeep Grand Cherokee. The G35X was the best car I ever owned (leased actually).until the new MDX. I got mine in Fathom Blue Pearl with Graystone Leather Interior. Rarely seen color, that I actually first saw on a Acura MDX Blog site form Pics posted by a Poster, then saw it Live at a dealership, seeing that the paint color name was spot on: It looks like he Fathoms of the Sea, casting different sheens at different angles and different light and accentuating its more muscular redesign. Good Luck !!
