    I don't agree that we're more talented than last year. Mark Williams is better than Lively. Banchero is better than any player on this year's team. Wendell Moore had a very efficient season while playing great defense. All that said, you're right that Mitchell is a beast.

    In this OAD era, Roach will be Duke's first true PG with three years of experience... just something to think about. Mitchell as the 4 allows them to switch on the perimeter with no drop-off and Filipowski is their most polished scorer in the paint so it'll be interesting to see what Scheyer does with his starting lineup and rotations.

    I am excited about what I just witnessed. This team has everything and possibly two starters didn't play, Proctor and Grandison!!! But to me the star was Mitchell by far. He looks like a more athletic Winslow from the 2015 Champs. He should start at the 4. With him at the 4 this team is a final four team with it's 10 deep roster that is multidimensional as any in the country!!

  • @cameronmorris1443

    Gotta bring him off the bench to give the bench some pop. Or start him at the 3 he would be an insane mismatch for other teams at 6’8 with his skill set. @@cameronmorris1443 I understand that Flip has been penciled in but I see two things, one Mitchell is blowing by him, that could be a small sign of problems with athletic 4's in college BBALL and I also see a skill set in Mitchell that brings a dynamic we probably haven't seen since Winslow and he was underated coming into that class. But I will say this, John better use All of them unlike Coach K, because he has a Deeeeep Squad. No one should get tired!!

    @@dewayneevans6331 for sure. Flip is 7 ft. Not nearly as quick as Mitchell. Mitchel is really a small forward he just has great high for the position . The thing is if he isn’t getting tore up on defense in real game we have the versatility to take him. Put and put someone like Mitchell in! And I agree . For years we haven’t used our bench enough and it’s cost us…we def should’ve had more rings with the teams we have had. But I’m all in on Scheyer and hoping he will coach different

  • @Lets_go_Duke

    @Lets_go_Duke

    I wouldn’t say Mitchell was the star by far, he’s just playing very aggressive and confidently. I warned everybody on the Kyle P. Hype train saying he’s one and done and I don’t think he’s shown he’s ready just yet. I don’t know if we will have a set lineup day in and day out, but I guess that will be up to Jon. I personally am not sold on the idea that Lively is the best kid coming out of high school. I would start him against weaker schools but I think in the big moments I would go with Ryan Young at the 5, Mark at the 4 and have him attack, Whitehead at the 3, Schutt at the 2 and Proctor at the 1. Defensively I take a Schutt out for Roach or Grandison. I’m sure this lineup would ruffle some feathers but Lively is just simply undersized and a huge liability on the defense. He doesn’t have an inside game. Ryan Young would actually do more for our team on both ends as unpopular and as funny as that sounds. And I know Roach is a Junior, played very well at the end of the year, but he also had much better talent around him. We won’t have Paulo who can get his shot anytime or M. Williams who you can lob it to every time. Proctor will be able to get his shot at will. Maybe you play him at the 2 but your losing a bonafide scorer by starting Roach. And I think Roach’s value is coming off the bench to reset the tone offensively and defensively.

  • @mike2687

    @mike2687

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Lets_go_Duke - yeah, I can't get behind not starting Roach... the 1st Jr. real PG at Duke in forever. Cook's experience and leadership was a strong component of the 2015 season as Moore's was for last year's FF run. Like Cook, Roach could technically slide over to the #2 but will still get a lot of ball handling duties. I just don't see Scheyer starting 5 brand new players when he has Roach as an option. Plus he's polished his handles and can break down his defender at a high level allowing those lobs to still be there for Lively like they were for Williams... I agree about Lively in that his low post game is raw--like Williams. But I do expect him to be a very good rim protector and help defender. Gotta remember, many bigs were able to score in isolation on Williams very effectively so I'm not worried about what I'm seeing with Young going at him. I think Scheyer will go back and forth with Mitchell and Filipowski early in the season in regards to defense vs offense--I think Mitchell will get buckets but I'm not sure if they'll be more effort and hustle scores where Filipowski has a solid post game along with a much better looking shooting mechanics. Even if Mitchell doesn't start, I'd expect him to play starter-like minutes. Love that dudes energy! I don't see Schutt starting either--they're gonna need better perimeter defense--he'll be an offensive spark off the bench. Duke's best three point shooting teams have low post scoring to help the spacing--having Young out there with Schutt is a team that gives up the drive and can't protect the rim... also, Young is probably the weakest on the boards of all the bigs. I don't know, these are guesses because Roach is the only one I've seen play a college game! Starting fives and stuff is just fun right now--Go Duke! My five before watching these scrimmages: Roach Proctor Whitehead Filipowski Lively But now, how does Mitchell not get a spot?!?!? Scheyer is gonna go through several rotations early in the season before settling down in conference play after finding out who his gamers are.

    @@Owen004 - not low post scoring--Lively is raw. I get your point though--we'll find out what Scheyer prefers. He could start both and slide Mitchell to the #3 and Whitehead to the #2--they both have all the attributes to defend multiple positions and that should be a dominant rebounding team. Or run Mitchell at the #4 and play small ball. They'll have options for starting and rotations.

But a great defender who plays hard and smart with decisions is everything for us.. we have a very young group once again.. but at least Jeremy is 3 yrs with us and has played so well last year we will finally have an experienced point guard who can defend and score.. we havent had that in a long long time.. the closest recent 2 me would be Tyus Jones, but he was a freshman, didnt play like one thou.. the transfer guys i dont know much about but they have experience, played alot at last school.and played in the. Big 10 so tough games every night.. our big men all seem to have great perimeter skills and ball handling.. other then the northwestern kid we have no girth inside. Unless i missed someone.. but heres hoping. Gonzaga and Tarholes will be tough, well see Gonzaga at the Pk tourny, and of course the other one well see in conference games

    I think this could be the most monstrous teams Duke has ever had. If they don't outrun everybody down the floor, they can move your defense to the point of total exhaustion. Plus, these guys know how to put it through the basket! On top of that, they look like a team on defense. But wait! There's more. They're still missing a key player.

    He definitely gives them a defensive advantage in being able to switch on perimeter players and probably gets his hands on more loose balls. One thing I don't like about his game are his mechanics on his jumper which will likely lead to inconsistency but he certainly makes up for that with his physicality and motor. Filipowski is much more polished on the offensive side of the ball and that will be his strength. Who starts might depend on Lively--he's gonna get boards and block shots but this team will need some back to the basket post scoring too. If Lively struggles with that aspect, then I'd say start Filipowski and if not, then Mitchell (at this point which is way too early to tell). Either way, I'd expect Mitchell to get starter-like minutes and finish of games too.

    Flip always looks awkward and uncomfortable I agree, it doesn't look like he is fitting in very well yet, I'm sure he will look much better by the start of the season. I know he's used to being the best player on his team and the focal point and now he has tremendously talented players all around him. Sheyer and the gang will get him lined out. Team looks loaded on offensive end and I know they will be stout on the defensive end even though they don't look to be playing much d against one another right now. Can't believe there is 2 more starter quality players yet to still add to this team in Proctor and Grandison. Deepest team in a long time
