    Ugh! I so want one of these, but you brought up the dreaded pedal strike. I owned a 2014 Anthem Advanced in the 27.5 wheel size. The bike climbed great ... decended great, etc. The Maestro was very efficient and the bike very fast. Except for pedaling through the rough stuff. It got to the point where I would see something on the trail and time my cadence to miss the object (back pedal ...). I became frustrated with it, and the last straw was pedal striking a root during an XC race and endo-ing off the trail. I cleaned the bike up and sold it right after that experience, less than a year after owning it. After that, I went back to my '11 Anthem X 26er. I took measurements of both those bikes from the flat surface of the garage to the center spindle of the Eggbeaters I use for pedals. The Anthem X 26er was higher at center spindle vs the Anthem Advanced 27.5 by 0.5" inches. (Both bikes had the same tires and 175 cranks). That's all it took for proper clearance. Since then, I have purchased a '19 Trance Advanced 29 3 and a '21 XTC Advanced SL. Both pedal great with no measurable pedal strikes that I can discern. The Anthem Advanced 29 was what I thought could be my "middle" sometime laster this year. Thanks for the video and your analysis!

    Yep... I've been there too. When you're hammering and just trying to stay upright and WHAM.... the bike grinds to an immediate halt. A lot of the current crop of XC bikes are pretty low like this. I've gotten used to it but occasionally it still happens. I still love the bike. 🙂

    What derailleur do you have on your bike, and how much does the derailleur weigh? I have a 34 on the front with the e13 XCX cranks and their chainring. You can get a longer bottle as well that is almost the size of two bottles. Lyne Holy Rail will not fit a medium frame anymore.

    XTR 11 spd with shimano 12 spd everything else. I'm not sure on weight exactly but it's a few grams lighter than 12spd. Better build quality though....

    What fork travel are you running, just the standard 110 it comes with? Curious if it could accommodate a 120mm to slack it out just a bit.

  • @DirtCraftMTB

    120mm. It handles better that way for faster/rougher trails and has a much better BB height as well. Even with 120mm and 170mm cranks I had a few pedal strikes early before I adapted to the bike fully.

    How do you think this would compare against the Spur or Epic evo with a -1 or -1.5 angleset to slacken the head angle?

  • @DirtCraftMTB

    @DirtCraftMTB

    Жыл бұрын

    I think it would ride pretty similarly to the Epic Evo at that point. The spur frame is a lot beefier and would probably still feel a bit more planted, but also less efficient rear suspension. At that point, you'd be splitting hairs between any of them though.... I think they'd all be comparable enough to be happy with any of them.

    Those are 120mm forks? Do You think using 120 mm on 110 mm frame on default could potencialy lead to some problems with frame durability?

  • @DirtCraftMTB

    @DirtCraftMTB

    Nope.... it will definitely be good. Most XC frames these days are designed for 100-120 up front anyway. But 10mm of difference is never enough to cause any problems.

    I noticed that you said that your 2022 Anthem is a size large, was your previous generation Anthem a size large also? And if so, does your 2022 Anthem feel like it’s about the same size, or perhaps a bit bigger than the previous generation? I’m 5’10” and I’m currently riding a 2020 Anthem in a size large (which fits great) but I’m thinking of getting the new model and I’m not sure if I should go with the large or the medium. I would love to try both sizes out, but with the current supply shortage going on that seems impossible right now. I’m going to have to order one or the other and hope for the best. Thanks!

  • @DirtCraftMTB

    Yes, I went from a large in the previous version to another large. The new one has a steeper seat tube along with the slightly longer reach so it evens out pretty well. My setup is almost identical, but I went from an 80mm stem on the 2020 to a 70mm stem on the new one. It wouldn't surprise me if you were able to copy your setup exactly though.

    I'm honestly not sure how tall he is and I don't want to guess and throw you off. I can say though, that I fall exactly in between medium and large and I'm very glad I chose large. I run mine with a 70mm stem and could probably go 80 if I wanted an aggressive setup. I have a friend with a medium and it feels laughably small to me. So if I were you, I'd go medium.

You’ll have to use 2mm spacer between bb and frame on both sides. Worked great. 34t oval fit with plenty of clearance. • @DirtCraftMTB

    It's cheaper. If I'm honest, I'd rather have the Epic Evo. They're both super efficient and lightweight. The Epic just has more rear travel and better geometry for what I like. The Anthem handles a touch sharper and I think looks better. Either is a great machine but I'm on the Anthem because the $$$ matters to me.

    Wait ??!! You say low leverage ratio ? 125 psi ? My bike dealer told me 210 psi as I weigh 215 lbs. please explain psi for my weight and why. I trust your knowledge but do not understand since it’s way below accepted pressures.

  • @DirtCraftMTB

    @DirtCraftMTB

    Жыл бұрын

    PSI isn't a linear relationship to weight or anything so it's almost impossible to suggest a pressure rating for your body weight. It needs to be part of overall setup using a combination of set up procedures. Send me an email at ridedirtcraft@gmail.com and I'll send you my custom setup guide. This bike does indeed have a low leverage ratio which is what yields the relatively low shock pressure compared to some other bikes. At 175 lbs, I ride this bike at 125-128 psi and there are other XC bikes that I need to ride at 200-250 psi. It's all a function of what the leverage ratio is throughout the whole suspension travel, rider weight, riding style, etc.
