If GM is still making suburbans as poorly as my 2015 I’d say run for the hills. Don’t fall for all their flashy technology. The thing is a rolling piece of garbage. Engine and transmission are holding up ok but everything else falls apart.

The sequoia has been under appreciated for a long time. They’ve been using independent rear suspension for a long time and their tight turning radius is also nice when your driving and it’s very smooth drive on any kind of road, snow covered or washboard. Also I have road tripped in one of these across country and spent time in the third row and it was comfortable because you could recline the third row while you were in it. If I was in the market for a full-size suv I would go for the sequoia.

The Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and the Cadillac Escalade account for 50% of all large SUV sales in the US. GM makes 340,000 of them every year and exports about 80,000 to 31 countries. They’re made in GM’s plant in Arlington, Texas, which is said to be the most profitable assembly plant in the world. We estimate they generate $20 billion in revenue for GM and about $4 billion in profits. Autoline Daily.

When you're reviewing large SUV's such as these, my first question is- will it hold a sheet of plywood with the tailgate shut? if not, will it hold a pre-hung 80" door without intruding on the front passenger compartment? If not, will the rear window slide down into the tailgate so that I can safely have cargo stick out without having a window bouncing on its struts? There are some guys, like me, who prefer to buy these bug utes to haul their families in comfort AND work the truck as well. Please consider this in the future. Your videos are REALLY great, thank you!!

I don;t see anyone paying 80K to haul pre hung doors or plywood in it. However, I have done that in my Grand Caravan with the seats in stowed / flat position. I don't think the rear window will slide into the tailgate on the Suburban for that take the Sequoia. In my case I won a bet against a guy who said that 4x8 will not fit in the Grand Caravan (he believes in trucks) and I put 4 sheets of 4x8. To have more sheets you run into the front passenger seats issue because they curve backwards the higher you go.Also a 10 feet long pole will fit inside with the gate closed and you can also go 16 feet long with the gate open and a red flag attached to the end of the pole. Paid 3K for the van for it 5 years ago saving me what..100K

Hopefully Toyota will bring this rig up to date soon. I also hope they do more than what Nissan did with their redesign of the Q 80 and the Armada. If you buy the Sequoia now you are paying for that Blue ray and for the component video inputs (I mean that is 10-15 years too old) ,hard plastics and you are right about the high seat not leaving you with enough head room which is not good in a huge car. Even so I think the Sequoia will hold value better Aftermarkets are noticing the Sequoia with accessories along the TRD lines so that is interesting. Suburban should have more room in the second row since it is 2 feet longer and the third row is uncomfortable anyway . Very good and relaxing review!

I feel like Toyota (including Lexus) fired its truck designers a decade ago. Every one of them seems outdated as hell, like they figured their reliability record can carry them no matter what. Recently drove a Tahoe Z71, which seemed fine in terms of trim level, if you don’t need to go all-out for the High Country. Sticker was $61k, so the Suburban version would’ve been about $64k (US dollars). Side note: With the possible exception of a Corvette, has anyone EVER actually paid full sticker for a GM model? Seems like GM, and maybe all Big 3, prices their vehicles with full expectation they’re going to be marked down.

However, while south this week I am renting a new 2021 Yukon. I am thinking of buying one for a second home. Geoff is exactly right about the turning radius. Also, the large screen in the GM is awesome compared to the crap in the Toyota. Here is the thing...if you can get a 2021 Sequoia SR5 for $53K, it is the deal. However, I am currently not able to find one. It looks like Toyota is limiting the trims to the higher price points, which means ~$65K (or more). For that price, I would rather pay ~$80K+ for a Suburban or Yukon. WDYT?
