2021 Silverado 3.0L Duramax Diesel 850 Miles Trip MPG Results!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

TOOK THE TRUCK ON ITS FIRST LONG TRIP DOWN TO SPRINGDALE ARKANSAS. ITS 6 1/2 HOURS ONE WAY FROM AND 420 MILES GIVE OR TAKE. HAD TO DELIVER A TRUCK TO STEP BROTHER AND A LOAD OF STUFF THAT WAS SITTING IN OLD MANS GARAGE AFTER HE MOVED DOWN THERE. OLD TRUCK DIDNT LIKE THE TRIP MUCH. 3.0L DROVE LIKE A CHAMP AND HAD NO ISSUES.
TRIP FROM HOME TO THERE AFTER FILL UP WAS 32.8MPG. THERE WAS ALOT OF UP AND DOWN ON THE CRUISE BUT STILL A RESPECTABLE NUMBER!
TRIP FROM ARKANSAS BACK HOME SET CRUISE 70MPH 90% OF THE TRIP. PLAYED WITH IT A LITTLE AND TOOK IT DOWN TO 68 AND 69 TO SEE HOW IT AFFECTED THE INSTANT MPG. TRIP BACK WAS 34.8MPG WHICH IS CRAZY! THATS 33% BETTER THAN WHAT STICKER SAYS IT SHOULD GET ON THE HIGHWAY.
OVERALL TRIP I GOT 33.77MPG
FUEL CAP I USE BELOW.

    Wish I had a lifetime of that, my life time is around 24mpg with just over 3,000 Miles. Mostly use it to drive to work and back but have these long trips every now and then so time will tell how it does. All I know is I had a 2014 Silverado with the 5.3 and its lifetime when I sold it was 13.8MPG with over 200K. So this is WAY better 😁

    I have the 2.8L babymax in my ZR2 and I definitely know when it goes into regen. Especially when I use my right foot. The turbo even seems to scream. But it does not regen often, especially on the highway. My DEF bottle only holds 5.5 gallons and I have no DEF gauge until the DEF is down to 30%, which I find strange. But I fill the DEF when my oil is changed. But my ZR2 (granted I have 32" BTG K02 tires) only gets 28mpg at 75mph empty, 20mpg while towing 4k pounds.

    I’m a ford guy, but with ford dropping the 3.0 diesel in their f150s they really can’t compete with these duramax MPGs. I’m still a few years off from a new pickup but I hate to say I’m leaning towards the Chevy 😮

  • @jakes5530

    Im generally a ford guy too, but fords have gotten so damn expensive. A fully loaded silverado rst v8 is $64k, a fully loaded f150 lariat sport v8 is over $70k. Couple that with the fact you can get the 3.0 duramax and the cost savings over an equally equipped f150 (which get 21-22 mpg maximum) is genuinely substantial. So yeah I too may be leaning Chevy next.

    @uptownautogarage6833

    I mean depends how much you are going to tow. that 6.6 is going to get terrible fuel mileage compared to the 3.0L. its so bad they don't even have it on the window stickers lol. id guess a average in the 6.6 to be around 15mpg. has 124HP more than the 3.0L and only like 4lbft of torque more. 3.0L is going to tow most anything you throw at it unless you are doing BIG loads for long hauls then maybe you want to step up to the 6.6 Diesel. Id say go drive the 3.0L after the first drive you will be sold and be happy you go something that gets decent fuel mileage when not towing or hauling something. Def is about $8/gal. My truck has 3,500 miles on it still have over half tank of def left....so that amount spent on def will be miniscule compared to the fuel savings in the long run. I've heard towing you go through it quicker but haven't had any long hauls with a trailer yet so not sure. But mostly daily driving I'm guessing ill get a fair amount of miles out of the def. Thank you for watching!

    @@msclecarcrzy with that size if trailer go 2500. Especially if you tow it often. The 3.0 is strong motor but that size of trailer will stress the truck and drivetrain. If there is a week point in the truck it would sure pop up a lot sooner and definitely not at a convenient time towing to the max all the time. Not to mention it there is an emergency handling situation. There is almost no price a person would pay to keep them and there family alive and safe. Super happy they came out of the 1/2 Diesel again. They did do a short run back in the early/mid 90s with the 6.5L in the 1/2. I had one and it was decent but didn't have a turbo so a little slow. Do you know what your Mileage was before and now after the install? Never been much of a believer in CAI just because of the price and how long it takes to recoup the cost vs savings. Let me know def interested if its delivering decent numbers.

    I had a Silverado many years ago and it was a pc of crap, but I am really intrigued by this 3.0 Duramax. My last 2 trucks have been midsize (Frontier and Tacoma), but this kind of fuel economy might just pull be back into a full-size. I'm in my mid 50s and I only plan to buy one more truck, so it needs to be durable and reliable. I'm sure GM trucks have improved greatly since I had mine back in the late 1990s, but will a Siverado diesel last 25 years/300,000+ miles? Who knows, but it's definitely on a very short list for my next truck.

Didn't think anything of it. So many computers in these new trucks sometimes stuff doesn't communicate like it should. And with it firing up after and having no problems since I know the dealer wouldn't be able to do anything about it so just keep rolling it until it happens again/more frequently.
