2021 Royal Enfield Classic 350 vs Honda CB350 RS | Which Is The Better 350cc Roadster?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Royal Enfield has delivered well with the pricing of the new Classic 350, although the premium colour models do feel rather pricey. However, do its specs feel a bit underwhelming when compared to the competition? Or has Royal Enfield done enough to fend off the Honda CB350? Arun pits the two bikes in a real-world test. The result couldn’t be more one-sided.

lmao exactly. Royal Enfield should stick to the 650cc class instead of regressing back to the 350cc segment. Although they do sell a lot of these atm, one can only hope they don't die the death of harley davidson. Harley learned too late, and is now diversifying it's options into good motorcyles like the pan america. Royal Enfield you're doing a good job atm, start paying more attention to other fields too. You can try your hand at a 300cc enduro for starters.

These reviews are good to get a gist of what these vehicles offers, not for purchase decisions. Same goes for spec sheets, because spec sheets wont tell you how you feel riding that vehicle, it wont tell you the character of the vehicle that is why test ride is a must. Once you ride the classic you will get what he(the reviewer) is talking about, this damn bike offers more than what the numbers tell you. Aur comments ka kya hai comments to tumhe ye batayenge ki ktm duke 390 sab cheez me classic 350 se behatar hai jo ki galat nhi hai, lekin kya wo comments pad kar tum ktm kharidoge?

The biasness was so much that it became unbearable to watch in between. Like when they lie RE has more refined engine. Come on bro don't lie so blatantly. True, I got surprised when he said RE has a refined engine. Like wtf. That vibration is still there, though bit lighter than it’s predecessor. But you can still feel it much. And the honda, you won’t even know the engine is on. All these guys got paid by RE.

I have ridden both, Honda DOES NOT have a thump. It is much louder than the RE, but the sound is treble dominated and has more to do with exhaust design rather than engine pistons. And it's true that the Honda is more refined. But if Honda is 10, the RE is 9.9. You have to ride the J series engine to believe it.

From the video and your own admission, Honda beats RE by having the better 1) Thump (louder) 2) Better Fuel efficiency 3) Slipper clutch for easy shifting. 4) larger Fuel tank. 5) lighter over all weight 6) Alloy wheels 7) Higher BHP and Torque (better punch) 8) better gear shifts. 9) better brakes and stopping distance. 10) (failed to mention) Traction control. 11) Better head, tail and side indicator lights. RE beats Honda by having 1) lower gear ratios, hence less shifting. 2) Better tyres (IDK, if this is valid, i drove the CB recently and I didn’t have anything to complain vs RE) 3) slightly stiffer suspension. AND last but not the least.. 4) unquantifiable Character??????? Plus, the Chai cup Test was basically made only for the RE bikes….. because RE abused its customer base to the breaking limit for the longest time, without a doubt RE made all the enthusiast’s life miserable, it tested our loyalty and exploited our old world nostalgia more than any other motoring company ever did. I agree that Honda has not shown any preferential treatment or love to the Indian consumer either, especially when compared to the other developing markets in South Asia where they are invested in. I also agree that they have always kept their really good bikes out of the reach of the average Indian customer perennially…. But no one can refute that Honda has at least given us better bikes consistently, in the segments / class they chose to be into. To name a few Honda’s I have owned / used and loved The Hero Honda Splendor -98 cc The Hero Honda CBZ - 150 cc The OG Honda Activa - Automatic scooter The CB Unicorn - 160 cc The CBR 150 and 300 cc respectively. Just, spend a minute to think and digest the fact that the first entry of Honda in 🇮🇳 for the 350 cc retro cruiser segment is the CB350 and what good package it is for its first venture. Now compare what RE has offered us in the same segment so far considering the fact that RE enjoyed a virtual monopoly for the last 20 years and more over this segment. RE to take this long (I am counting at-least, 15 years) to give us a refined 350 retro cruiser bike under its brand name, is a sin in itself and is not definitely a “well-done hurrah” thing. Making the chai cup comparison a point in this video and insulting Honda on refinement was very a cringe- worthy thing. To add insult to injury, towards the end of the video, you guys gave the verdict that RE is better than Honda CB350 and that too by miles? What are you guys smoking nowadays? Please get me some of that.. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Before any RE fanatic jumps on me, know this - I have always been in the RE camp, have owned both the 350 and 500 Thunderbirds, used the classic and the desert storm in plenty. I am currently waiting for the Meteor 650 from RE to be launched. But Honda deserves more than what was said in the above Video. I applaud Honda for bringing us the CB350. Its a good machine and the New RE classic has not definitely out done the CB350. The so called cons of CB350 can be easily rectified and will cost less than what it will take to modify the RE Classic to be close to the CB. For example RE experience will be much better if it has slipper clutch, if it has a better top speed while cruising, if it had a larger Fuel tank, better Mileage, alloy wheels and if it weighed a little less. The CB Honda has all these already going for it, all one has to do to make it better than RE is swap out the stock tyres and tune the ECU with a Piggy back, change brake callipers and we are set. If not for anything else The Honda CB has now lit a fire under the RE HQ, finally the Indian consumer has a choice. I really hope that this pushes RE to be better and respect its customer base. Kindly give proper credit where its due. I am disappointed with the review.

So Imperfections give a bike ‘Soul’? What about dependability and legendary reliability? Is that not considered ‘character’? And RE can make scramblers and cafe racers to compete with other manufacturers but Honda cannot make long stroke cruiser to compete in a huge market? Come on.. It is brands like Jawa and Honda who have forced RE’s hand to stop selling old toffees in new wrappers and actually improve. But you are entitled to your thoughts. It’s just that this is the main reason we Indians do not get to see many motorcycles available worldwide.

You know the review is bad when it uses "soul and emotion" as an excuse to say a bike is better and at the same time telling us the features of the CB are better. And then concluding that soul is what makes a bike better. "Soul" wont help when you need dual ABS and quick braking to stop you. Emotion wont help when your bike breaks down in the middle of nowhere. Proclaiming any one of them as THE "Best" is a terrible practice. People have different use cases. As a person that owns a CB i would suggest people of some nature to go for the RE. But deciding for the buyer isnt your work....

I don't understand this noise about taller and shorter gearing..every bike has to be ridden in 2nd - 3rd gear in bumper to bumper traffic or while tackling a speed breaker or deep pothole..these professional channels seem to have vested interests because of the pampering they receive from one company and neglect from another. I have ridden both bikes extensively and found out that each bike is unique in its own way and all else is a matter of getting used to..try taking the enfield above 110 in 5th gear and it's engine will be crying it's guts out because of the shorter gearing. Try the same with the CB and it smoothly sails at 115kmph free from resistance, because of the taller gearing..hate changing gears ??? then why not go for an activa ?? Additionally the slipper clutch and glitch free gear box in the CB makes changing the slots real fun..best to take a long test ride on a friend's bike and then decide where to s Place your hard earned cash instead of going by others opinions..each one to his own..

@@vikrambhaskar7976 seriously dude ?, accept the need for change. You are paying money right ? So why settle for less, if you have a competition with better features for the same price range. Tell RE to be better than Honda and then common people shall accept it as flawless. They have come a long way, I appreciate that But if they had done some minor addition here and there, Classic should have really dethroned Honda. No gear position indicator whereas Meteor has one. See, these are the small small things they could have done better. Now go back to where you came from RE fangirl. Your comment is actually the one which is seriously biased.

I have already test ride the Honda Highness 350 and except it’s tall gearing(need to be in right gear to enjoy your ride) everything about it is a class. I love the Classic 350 design and the overall improvements but it is in NO way better than the Honda CB 350 if you are comparing both bikes in the first place. About time people gave credit where credit is due. And Honda deserves credit here. This is the reason, Indians do not get good bike models because we are sold on 'emotion' and 'soul'.

Honda clearly wins in every aspect but RE can't lose because it's lacking at everything is a "charm". Honda has a head turner look but RE has it's old "charming" look which nobody is really going to notice on actual road because there are just too many. Unless there is a squid with an extra loud exhaust on an RE, nobody really turns to look at an RE. But they don't mention the looks, how overpriced it is, how honda feels and is more premium.

Dear zigwheels. RE ne kitna diya bhai ye biased comparision keliye.really disappointed that big guns like you taking sides than a honest review..i have taken test ride yesterday for both RE classic next gen and honda highness. I have taken a half hour ride in both.frankly speaking for the first time in my life i am taking a ride in royal enfield and honda. So i have no previous experience in riding these bike. Royal enfield felt heavy for me. I have ride it in bangalore traffic. It was not so comfort in traffic. And bro there was vibration felt for me as well as pillion foot rest at 60km/hr speed. It was good but cant match with honda highness. After test ride of classic i then ride highness. Initially i was thinking of buying royal enfield classic becoz of the service network and aftermarket value. But bro after riding honda highness , i have just forgotten the service network and other blah blah blah..honda is much superior in ride quality the control the sweet sound the instrument cluster everything.. And apart from all these. The quotation for RE halcyon series with alloy wheel and crash guard added was 2.7lakhs on road. And highness comes with alloy so the on road price was 2.5lakh for Delux pro varianr Which is throw away money for that machine. I request all the viewers of this video to get a test ride of both and choose the one. I am sure if you are a neutral person(not a fan of any bike) you surely enjoy honda and it has the value for money.. don't make a decision seeing this **** review.

I feel all reviews are inherently favouring RE. Having driven both I feel these two motorcycles are farther more apart than they are closer. The only point of comparison is actually the sound that Honda has tried to imitate and they have done a great job in making it enjoyable without being too loud. RE is easy going and Honda is a tough nut to crack. But being a tough nut gives it more character as you need to feel connected to bike as to how it behaves. Honda - Better refinement, Power/Performance, Mileage, features. The price undercut is for cheaper drum brake model that itself is clearly not a right move from RE (without rear ABS). I feel RE is good bike. That does some things better than older version yet still retains that charm. But these motorcycles ridden Back to back are not comparable even though looks says otherwise.

Soul and character, that can't be quantified but classic has in abundance. Yeh log joh maal phook rahe hai woh mujhe bhi chahiye. Lol Quantifiable nahi hai toh kaise decide kiya ki classic is better in feel and emotion. It depends on person to person, first of all. Not everyone will act like sheep and follow off the cliff like RE. I bought a RS 4 months ago and believe me I wanted a Himalayan, but after test riding classic, Himalayan, interceptor, and rs and highness I went for RS. Do you want to know why? It felt lighter, quicker. I loved the engine and the sound. Mind you I upgraded from a Honda Activa which I rode for 9+ years. The clutch felt light which is surely better. Even my friends who have RE told me to go for Honda. My friends have the Himalayan, Classic, interceptor, and all of them told me to go for Honda and once I'd gotten my bike to my hometown , all of them rode it and we're thinking that RE really really nedds to up their game. And gearing is tall , yes, so what? You have to change gears hi naa. I stay in kalimpong , a hill station and believe me , here the people have started thinking that RE is like Harley. Only because of the name it sells but if you actually look at the bike , it's not really good. But there are still many hardcore RE fans and no , I'm not saying that RE is bad. They are good and have fans all over the world but to say that Honda CB 350 rs is not the better bike because it doesn't have emotion of feel is just plain bullshit.

The CB350 is objectively and technically a better bike. The Classic 350 has come much better. I really don't understand why all reviewers say Cb350 is better in individual departments and once they make a summary, they say the classic 350 is better.. 🤣🤣🤣 Of course, the ride of CB350 doesn't feel like a retro bike. But, it feels like riding a modern bike and masks all its heavy weight and feels a very confident bike around the corners as well. In the move, I've test rode both CB and Meteor back to back. Cb is objectively more refined and feels light and does great in the corners in its price and weight segment. If one test rides both back to back and if one is not biased towards any of these brands, CB350 would be the better choice and offers more value for money. Its like saying that the black athlete had performed better than the white athlete. But, as the athlete is White, We give the extra brownie points and make the white a winner. 🤣🤣🤣 Joke on you all reviewers, not just you Zigwheels. Test ride both for yourself extensively and buy what you like.

@Arun Nadar Just because it was too much RE all the way till the end of the video. Infact recently I had ridden the new 350 for substantial distance of 40 kms which had all fragments of riding a bike, bumper to bumper traffic, bad roads, under construction roads, clean roads, empty roads (a travel from Gurgaon to Delhi) and my experience of riding the new 350 was the same as it was with the previous generation. As you slow down the bikes to heavy to maneuver quickly, you cannot zip past the traffic (it's not that nimble), shifting of gears still an issue in traffic (the clutch is hard), the bike vibrates a lot when u accelerate, the head light is a no good at night (this is when I rode in a city like Delhi). Can't comment on the quality issues as of now, the bike has to weather a season to the rusts and niggles in it. On the other hand honda CB 350 RS (as I have ridden it over a longer distance) is easy to ride, can frisk through the traffic like a splendor (though it weighs a good 15 kg lighter than re 350, it is still heavy), the brakes are awesome, the ride comfort is great (even with slightly rear set foot pegs) no vibrations and list goes on, the fit and finish is good (except for the switches, the plastic looks aftermarkets sorts), the clutch is super light your fingers won't hurt after the ride, the weight of bile is not felt on the wrists when you maneuver through traffic, the list can go on. This is with respect to the riding experience which I have for both the bikes. I am not an ardent buker now, but I used to be and have ridden many bikes over long distances. I am a fan of RE for its design, the classic looks stunning but the same doesn't reciprocate in the bike and ride quality. They have a tendency of taking customers for granted both after sales and in service. Now on the review, I understand here that the reviewer might have had his own pros and cons while reviewing the bikes and has elaborated accordingly. However, clearly if you watch the review it is too much RE centric, as if the reviewer is pushing the viewers to like the RE with adjectives. This in no way the right way of addressing even if he like the RE bike more. Please bring the unbiased approach while submitting on a common platform or at least try to appear so. It is understood that these reviews are also a part of promotional scheme and everyone an extra buck for the efforts they make and the name they have made out of the same. So understanding the commercial terms associated with reviews, the reviews should be made while not loosing the essence of the same. Nothing to demotivate or discourage or undermine anyone but the review looks biased towards RE by the views and comments putforth in it and hence this comment. Hope I am able address the concern because it is an impact on this reviewer as well, at the end of the day, he too is doing his job and is good at it.

@Arun Nadar @Arun Nadar @Arun Nadar I do accept the fact that Honda and Jawa just broke the tradition of 'retro' motorcycles in the country, which was a monopoly of RE for at least 20-25 years now. HOW is the question here. Its simple, they made decent bikes in terms of performance and build quality. CB 350 has everything right apart from the taller gear ratios. We as consumers deserved better roadsters that was long due. I wish we had triumphs in 80s and 90s here, which would have made RE to rethink about how a retro brand keeps the trust of its loyal customers. Let us not forget that most of REs in India wont event get ABS/FI as standard hadn't the govt made it mandatory. We still have a brand new 350 roadster with a rear drum break as option! And with the accusation here: we all knew how would have these channels done videos after videos of H'ness had they got their hands on media bikes on time. It was just the lack of marketing by HMSI. And they are paying for it now! Coz out of all of their launches in recent years, this was the well priced one and went on to challenge the market leader and beat it in every department. This very 'comparo' of retro roadsters tell us the same story, where RE is just about the so called 'soul' and whatever legacy they say. Spending 2.5L for legacy should have been a choice, not a verdict!

But I am seeing lots of guys back at my native buying it knowing that they have to ride 100 kms to get it serviced, and still being happy with the bike. My point wasn't about the availability, but the comparo of two bikes in same category and price point. Its very personal that which bikes you get connected into. That couldn't be the verdict on any bike when you guys are supposed to do a fair comparison of all the aspects you mentioned in the video. RE has came a long way with the J platform which is the best ever they have built in house. But that simply doesn't make the Honda inferior! Ps: Very happy that you guys putting some effort to read n reply comments, especially the 'not so positive' ones. Good work guys! But the video is still a disappointment for me!

Trust me , I've always recommended re to my friends without knowing what a rs actually is only after test riding it today cuz my friend is considering it . Its by far MILESS ahead in handling, braking amd if you look forward to twist the acceleratior ,only then you'll come to know what a rs is. Refinement levels are around the same and kudos to RE for improving and its just a privilege for a re to be compared to the japanese giant. The exhaust note is too good to be forgotten .Take my note, these guys here are re salesmen in disguise and RE truly paid them no doubt .just go to a big wing showroom and test ride the rs . You'll never comeback to the RE. Services are a different matter .The re is a good motorcycle no doubt but its just lazy and is for people for relaxed riding. Any othe biker enthusiasts just go for the rs .

Highness despite being a long stroke bike doesn't feel like that. It feels like a square stroke engine with power higher up in the revv range. This is why they talk about the feel. Classic used to vibrate and all but these bikes from j platform are really good. If you care about things on paper, that's a different story. For example, If you compare Duke and Yamaha bikes of any segment, Yamaha will fail all the drag races and have less electronics and tech. But people love Yamaha more. What an amazing comparison. My father had RE Classic 350 in 1995 and I have very beautiful childhood memories of it. Then it became a legacy of Royal Enfield bikes in our family and my brother brought a Royal Enfield Himalayan too. Last year I broke the stereotypes when I had to buy a bike for myself and I brought this Honda CB 350 RS. I just can't tell how much celebrity feelings this bike gives you when it grabs the attention on the road and people actually dares to break the ice and ask about the bike. And this bike has driving modes lees I knew, switching off the ECO mode gives the best performance out of the new HONDA CB 350 RS; It is okay for off-roading, good on city roads, good for cruising and I almost smoked a SUZUKI Hayabusa with it once. That makes it surprisingly speedy when required. And the meter shows that I am getting an average of 38km/L on ECO mode. But I love Royal Enfield because it is not just the bike their gears, accessories, events, an ecosystem of riders of a different class, and yeah not to forget the RE legacy.
