2021 Kia Sorento GT Line review - Australia

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Jenny reviews the new 2021 Kia Sorento in it’s top GT-Line trim. The latest Sorento looks better, it is heavily modernized and it has far more tech and perks than ever before.
Actually, Kia’s new SUV has more equipment than almost any other SUV in its class and price range available in Australia. The top trim GT-Line Sorento with AWD and some nice and pricey perks has a driveaway price of just under $65k. It also comes with capped price servicing for up to 7 years or 105,000 km, whichever comes first. Yeah, that is a nice addition, but even with that deducted, it is still more than $60k.
So, it’s all about balance. Yes, the Sorento is great, but it’s also more expensive. It also competes with some well-established cars such as the Mazda CX9, Toyota Kluger, and Hyundai Santa Fe, the last two just being revamped as we speak.
There are two engines to choose from in the new Sorento, a 3.5 L V6 petrol and a 2.2 L turbo diesel. The petrol has 200 kW of power and 332 Nm of torque from 5,000 revs, while the diesel gets 148 kW of power and 440 Nm of torque from 1750 to 2750 revs.

    I just did a test drive of the Gt line-disesel, yesterday. What i observed: -Looks even better than in pics and videos, although the side view looks plain but it suits the overall muscular look. -Interior was very porsche and very high end. Infotainment was very smooth and high resolution. Only thing i didnt like were the air vents, not my taste but wife loved it. If this had the interior of the new 2022 tucson it would have been perfect. My other small issue was the driver display, the blindspot monitor in the display was small and most times unusable, check this if you have impaired vision. - The drive was almost perfect, the car had an intense acceleration. The diesel engine sounded mean and muscular. Very quiet inside the car, can only hear the engine at high revs. You feel the small bumps slightly because of those 20 inch alloys but on bigger bumps i felt nothing. 0-100 kmph was like 7 seconds. Car was giving 7-8 l per 100km mileage. Also, the car is ridiculously good on corners. This is my balanced view,i loved the car, its a percect family car. I will be buying the GT line diesel next month.

I was hoping to get sufficiently mobile to drive it again but a few months ago I also lost my left leg so its unlikely I'll be driving again in the foreseeable future. Pity really as she was a sweet ride which I bought after a six year relationship with a 2011 Sorento. Oh well I'm sorry to have seen her go.

    The self park assist is good for the car owner wanting to park in tight spaces without being inside the car, but what about the car you parked tightly next to? Except that the drivers door of the Sorento is next to the passenger side of the vehicle next door, so the driver of the other car may well have plenty of room to get in and out. That is a quite likely scenario, as the driver off the other car will undoubtedly park in a way to give them easier access on their side of the vehicle

    No excuse for the dual clutch. My Kia Stinger GT has a 8 speed auto so they have a good one they can use! It obviously would handle the torque and power of both engines as the 3.3lt twin turbo in the Stinger don't bother it.

    The DCT adds to the fuel efficiency of the car. I have owned one of these GT Lines for more than 2 months now. The dct can be a bit quirky at car park speeds especially if there is an incline. Otherwise I like the feel of the gear changing as it gets up to 30 kms/hr. From then on it's smooth. I am consistantly getting 930kms per tank. That's mostly driving around a small town and occasional highway travel. I could get better if I drove a bit lighter.....then that wouldn't be me.

    The reviewer said "I couldn't fit my coffee cup in the front door bottle holder" Perhaps it's made for bottles? "Touch screen volume controls are inconvenient" I bet you use a touch screen smart phone and seem to have come to terms with your fingerprints all over your phone's touch screen. I think you are looking at progress on this vechicle and perhaps, this progress will be adapted by many vehicle manufacturers going forward. Just like we all went from a flip phone in the 90's to smartphones we use now.

    Yeah, you don't really listen to what's said. She also talked about her bottles. And you think the touchscreen volume thing is about fingertips? No, man, it's about controlling it while driving. To clarify Peter..... the bottle holders wouldn't fit my water bottle either it was just not very attractive to film, my travel mug is quite narrow so I thought it really should fit. Turning a knob is so much more convenient for passengers and drivers than holding your finger on a screen, most people phones are volume controlled via button not screen anyway. Yes, my opinion but I test a lot of cars and that is just one feature I hope will revert back, due it not really being an improvement in design.

  • @Peter-vn8ue

    @Peter-vn8ue

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@edenakasha7574 you could have adjusted the volume by the steering wheel control like I do even though I have knobs as well on my car's stereo. Using the steering wheel controls means I keep my eyes on the road when I'm driving as I'm use to where they are located and this makes driving safer. As a reviewer do you need to be adjusting the volume while you are driving?. The other point I'm trying to make is the area in the front door is for water bottles, that is its function, not for coffee cups that's why there are two cup holders in the centre console. You reusable travel mug looks very chunky on camera not narrow as you are suggesting. Perhaps these cup holders are for take away sized cups only? If you dont like something on a vehicle just say so and follow the statement with I just dont like this whatever it is, a personal choice. You can't hold back progress and change which a lot of people try and resist, like it or not if you really liked a vehicle that you want to purchase and it has a touchscreen and steering wheel controls I really dont think it would be a deal breaker for most people, perhaps it might be for you. For the record I love technology and the tech in this vehicle.

I have always had ststion wagons and vans, so I really looked hard at this vehicle before buying. It id only me and my wife now a days, but we do like to fold the second row seats down and load the car up at times. Haven't lifted up the 3rd row as yet. The dual clutch transmission is a bit quirky at car park speeds especially if you are renegotiating ramps. Otherwise I love the dct that it is helping with the fuel economy.

    We bought a Kia Sorento in February 2021. For the last month we have nothing but problems with the car & the dealership at Robina QLD. The gearbox jerking when coming to a stop from second to first gear at lights. Also in reverse it’s quite bad. The dealership has admitted to having this issue with a few customers but they somehow say it ok as that’s how a “dual clutch system” works. Wtf!!!!🤷‍♂️ The entertainment system & Apple car play faulty. It goes to a dark blank screen while driving & then nothing works. It happens spastically & the dealership tries to blame it on the cord. 🤦‍♂️. So this car winning car of the year is obviously based on rubbish assessment.

    I had my 3 yr old Kia Sorento GT line appraised today as a potential trade in on a new one. $40,000. About what I. expected for a Sorento that’s done more than 50,000 km. I must have been very lucky.
