Great review, never considered the X as older version too tall, then noticed they seem to have removed the S version from their line-up, but the new lower seat, will have to go and try out the new one, if the DVLA ever get round to returning my licence after renewing it...

I have just testridden it and it really surprised me how quickly it felt comfortable and the power didn’t let me down at all. It feels like a premium bike also. Love it.

I'm a fan of the NC...I can't see me getting rid of my 2017

Great review ER. Just picked up my 6 speed on Friday and have really enjoyed it so far. Slipper clutch is light and the transmission is buttery smooth. Find myself riding in Rain mode around town and in User mode on the highway (Power Max, Engine Braking Min, Traction Max). Pleasantly surprised with the power and the milage (66mpg US). Wind screen is useless on the highway, and the suspension is firm but not jarring. Overall a cleaver design with the 23 liter frunk and the fit and finish seems first rate. Your previous ownership and detailed video summary weighted heavily on my decision. Thanks again!

Another great review. Interesting what you were saying about filtering, we went to Wales two weeks ago and the traffic was awful on the M5 north. I led the four bikes and filtering for miles through the traffic was much easier than my previous 650 Versys, no gears to change and very steady. We did 604 miles in total at an average of dead on 90mpg and we weren’t hanging about, as you know mine is a 2020 bike. This might be contentious but I seem to be getting about another 4 to 5mpg using E5 97 to 99 octane fuel, my mate has put me off the E10 as he knows about this stuff, says it’s worth paying the extra for better fuel, think he might be right. Got Shell VPower in there at the moment, filled up yesterday at the garage before the roads split at Telegraph Hill, £1.53 per litre, oh well. Of course might just be the engine has loosened up a bit after 2,500 miles. I won’t be changing to the new model anytime soon, her indoors would kill me, and I’ve just ordered a 47 litre Givi top box and rack, wonder if she will notice!

Hi Mike, the 2020 is more than good enough anyway I think. I don't think I'd up grade either, although it is a worthy upgrade from my 2017. Glad your enjoying it 👍😎and yes, the fuel economy amazes me. The Pan America I have had for a week now gets half the economy.

The manual has the EB modes. It does more than change the DCT gear change. I (on a 1 hour test ride) found it smoothed out transition from power to brakes. Meant you could be more sloppy with the chain slack and it softened it up by changing the power off and power on "ramps".

I am picking my 2021 bike (in blue) up on Wednesday.. nice 220 mile ride home! I hope the weather's nice

Hi er, had mine few months now and averaging 82 mpg riding in sport mode dct. Giving it some welly and that fuel economy is astounding compared to other bikes i have owned. Find the screen fine (6’1’’) but seat still uncomfy after 120 miles. Not done a long motorway cruise wonder what mpg would be. Leg and hip comfort great at my height. Test drove a manual and i think I prefer it,but got dct now. It has caught me out a few times by changing gear in bends esp hairpins which i dont like. Learning to maintain a steady throttle in bends but feel unnatural. Also descending hills it runs away. I know u can use the paddles but try not to. I was following an enthusiastic gs 1200 rider in wales the other day and could easily stay with him. It certainly isnt slow,maybe not just fast, but energetic all the same. In fact its deceptively quick but because it doesnt rev high it doesnt scream like others.before I bought this i test drove tracer 7, versys, v strom and i way preferred this. Its very smooth and easy to ride and vibration free compared to the yamahas. Just my opinion but might help others. Also mine has had ecu flash and doesnt chug and pulls away cleanly

The review I was waiting for. Your review of the older NC convinced me to get one. My main complaints about the 2016 NC are the higher seat height (I’m pretty short) and it’s weight. This seems to address them. I’m not in position right now to trade mine in for a new one cause ai might be tempted. What I really want is an electric bike but at current prices that is too much of a stretchy justify.

Hi Eric, Yes I am with you on the electric thing. I am in the same position. Yes the 2021 is lighter and that really make's such a difference. Getting back on my 2017 I really felt it. Still love my 2017 though.

Honestly the neste video that I've seen of this bike! Really Nice job, detailed, answer most of the questions I hard since I'm searching for Other motocycle for Next year, year and half for my long commute rides :) I Subbed Hope when I finally have the oportunity to buy it hopefully theres a New model and with improved features again :)

Yes but for the price honda should also give better suspension and double front disc. The price is near 9000eur and all the engine and frame development price is more than paid off after 10years on the market.

Thanks mate, Its just vastly lighter on top compared to the older, models, I think its more than just it being lowered although that does help a lot. It's a different bike compared to the older models.

The glitch pulling away is common on the DCT; my dealer has asked Honda to develop a 'fix'. I've had it on the Honda diagnostic machine and remapped but the problem reappeared after 1,000 miles. Now done 3,300 since the beginning of July and love it. Much better DCT than my old (heavy!) Crosstourer DCT. 3 generations on makes all the difference.

@@exeterrider Extremely economical, and this model looks really good. Not so keen on the swingarm, handlebars and screen, as everyone else comments about.

The NC700 replaced the Honda Deauville NT650 (223 kg dry) and Deauville NT700 (236 kg dry). I thought it a shame Honda dropped the mid range shaft drive. I never got a NC in spite of being told about it’s “half a Jazz engine” and fuel economy. Now though it looks as if the NC750 has evolved into a swan after all. Windshields are always a problem though, on most bikes. Might as well just have a small sport windshield, or maybe a big windshield that can be taken on and off easily for those longer tours. I liked your honesty about it’s pillion capacity.

Yes, absolutely. It is a very good starter bike , including being very light on top which is really important.

People think im stupid for down grading from a Africa Twin. but I feel so much better on this bike. I just love it. I can make more errors on this without killing myself.

I find the fuel economy on mine incredible, it barely sips fuel. On a recent long trip it was showing at one point an average of 91.1pg. Even commuting (lots of stop starts on a bad day)) I'm getting mid 70s. First time out from the dealer I got around 250 miles from a tank.

I ran a 2015 NC750X-DCT. I had a 55.1 mile each-way journey and fuel economy was my god. I mastered getting 99.9mpg (the maximum the digital display can show).

Great review and insights! Some have said it's overly rough on bumpier road, front suspension seems to be too stiff to be comfortable on uneven spots. Any experience with that?

Hi Alan, I would say the 500 F (not the x) will be your most enjoyable choice. Everything about it is perfect, the CBR500 is aswell, they are the best 500s around in my book 👍

Having owned a 2015 NC750-DCT I find myself very drawn to a second spell of ownership of one of these incredible machines. I only wish Honda would fit shaft drive and cruise control, as it would then be the first bike I would consider describing as 'perfect'. Nonetheless they are not far off it.

Hi many thanks for your video really useful for me Currently own a vstrom 1050 which is a great bike , used to own a 2019 nc750x 95% of my mileage is now 1 up commuting ( a lot of motorway ) , so thinking of replacing the vstrom 1050 for a new model nc750x Main issue I had with my 2019 was with the seat , fitted a shad seat that helped but the slope on seat was always uncomfortable , as I do a lot of miles decided to change bike I know you own a nc750x as well so was wondering if the new model seat is now fixed with no slope etc Cheers Steve

Hi Steve, The new seat is night and day compared to the old one. Infact you could possibly ride all day with the new set up. You won't have any issues there with the new seat for sure.

I know this isn't an apple to apple comparison but I had to ask anyway, what's it like to maintain this NC750x compared to the CB300R that you've own in the past? Interms of fuel economy, maintenance cost for daily use of 60%city, 20%highway and 20% short distance (less than an hour and a half) of touring with pillion?

Hi, both have pretty much the same oil change intervals, and you will get roughly the same mileage. The 300 gets about 83mpg and the nc about 65 to 70 so next to nothing in it there. Both are not very good for pillion carrying mainly due to the seats being not set up for it but will be OK for short rides. So in many respects they tick the same boxes. You do get more for your money with the NC though 💰🍻👍

I love this bike. Problem is at the moment that no dealer in my close proximity (300km) has a bike in the shop. So I haven't been able to even see it in person yet. Very unfortunate, otherwise I might have had put a deposit on it already.

Hi, Am quite a new rider living in Wiltshire, (Suzuki GSR 750) was unfortunately knocked off from the rear last year, and have lost some confidence in my riding, i am maybe looking at changing my bike, and was looking at the Honda NC750 DCT, in your personal opinion would you recommend this bike? Closest I guess is the tiger 800 off the top of my head. Much more a adventure bike of course 👆

I'm hesitating due to comments on fuel mapping and rear suspension. Does the manual transmission version also have fuel issues? I really wish Honda would have released this w/o the fuel mapping issue or held off on the bike's release until it was sorted. As far as the rear suspension goes, I would not have a issue in spending 200 more lbs in order to upgrade things. May have to hold off another year so Honda can tweak things a bit and the aftermarket has a chance to work their magic.

Yes, it is still a very good bike at the end of the day. No bike is perfect. Go and try one. I haven't tried the manual.

I have this bike and I've found that the mapping is not up to Honda's usual standards. On cold startup, it revs up and down a bit until it warms up. And when taking off from a stop it has a slight hesitation. It even completely stalled on me the other day for the first time! Had to restart it. Luckily no one was behind me. (This is the US version.) My main gripe with it is this: I have discovered that the spring in the throttle is too strong. This is a drive by wire setup on this new model. No physical cables on this one, only wires. The throttle is computer controlled. So they had to put a physical spring in the wrist throttle area. I have compared the amount of force required to turn the throttle to several other bikes and this one is noticeably harder to turn and to hold at a constant speed. The result is a very irritated wrist!! So disappointed with this. My previous bike that I had was a 2020 Triumph Speedmaster, which was also drive by wire, but that bike's throttle felt fine. Before I realized that a big part of the problem was the internal spring, I had taken it to the dealer in the hopes of getting it re-mapped, like I had heard someone else say they did and it sorted out their issues. But nope, the dealer said it had the latest software and there was nothing wrong with the bike! And they charged me $160 to tell me that! As far as the mapping goes, one thing I've found that helps a little is to set the "User" parameters as such: P-level 1, EB-level 2, T-level 1, D-can't remember if it's the lowest setting or the highest, sorry. Any way, this tames the throttle a bit a makes it a little more manageable, not as touchy. But we shouldn't have to do this. At this point I do not recommend this bike because of these issues. If Honda would replace the physical spring in the throttle with a weaker spring and also re-map the super touchy throttle parameters, then I would love this bike, but as it currently is, no.

Something that I found really helped is a DCT reset. Have you tried this? I have a video coming up on how to do this. But if you mail me at exeterrider@hotmail.com I'll explain.

I have been watching your reviews on the nc750x and would be grateful if you could advise. I have bought a 21 plate registered in the July but watching videos I'm convinced ti is an earlier model the dash is tapered on the top ends where the later ones are letterbox shape also it is silver gray and black which I think is an older colour

Yes so you will have a bike which apart from the colour change they were last updated in 2019 with the new imu for example. Very nice bike and run as well as the newer one although slightly heavier. Hope that helps.

As you dont mention it how did they fix the petrol tank vent that annoyingly on windless or almost still days allows the petrol fumes to rise right into the riders face?

Hooked- but what about unwanted downshifts on a wet downhill slope, better to be in manual or not? Not having a clutch to get you out of trouble only a brake???? Thanks for showing us.

It's very smooth with dual slipper clutches, so that's never a problem. Not sure what you mean with not having a clutch to get you out of trouble, but the DCT looks after all of that...... Only down side is you can't bump start it but that will be Very rarely needed 👍🍻

@@drdoolittle5724 I see no it just dosent happen on dct mate. If you go from 6th to 1st doing 50mph the clutch will just over run without dangerous engine braking power. Don't give it a second thought, dct looks after all that 👍

I would not consider buying a car that does not have cruise control. Now that motorcycles are built with the electronic controls necessary to implement cruise control at practically no additional cost of manufacture, we should not have to go without on motorcycles that so obviously require it. No sale.

You are lucky you got the Metz tyres as OE. I've got Dunlop 609's on mine and they're rubbish. Can't wait to replace them probably with Road 5's. The Honda high screen with a cheap eBay deflector does a fine job. Don't even need earplugs now.

Yes I think my battlewing tyres are Dunlops, I am also looking forward to getting a set of PR5s on mine. The 2021 is nice to have really good tyres.

Go for it, Its heavy compared to the 300 so its a step up , but go for it. Thats what life is all about!

@@exeterrider thank you for your reply and I think may go for it. As an old fart though and getting nearer pension age, the comments you made were very interesting to me. For example, a fully loaded 750x with no cruise control but with full luggage can't be far away in price to an NT1100 which comes fully stocked. I see myself in retirement as a saddle tramp for a few months touring Europe. Itchy Boots has shown you can tour the world on a 300 but that's her not me and its an European tour for me. Thanks again!

Can I ask have you now purchased the new 21 model ???

I quite like the styling. I’m not a fan of indicator running lights. I would worry that someone might pull out, mistakenly thinking I’m indicating to pull into a junction. Probably just me. Big like though. Another very thorough review 👍🏼

Yes, for me I am on the fence with it. They dont half give you alot more visibility even in daylight. On the roadsafe course i went on they say a single headlight dosen't register in the brain and that you should have 3 lights on the front...makes sense but yes I see where you coming from.

@@exeterrider At least you see where I’m coming from, unlike some motorists at junctions 🤣 Maybe extra white lights instead of orange. I have a bit of a hang up on it because recently a truck pulled out in front of me (I was also driving a truck), and he phoned my depot and told them I was indicating to turn into the junction he came out of. I 100% wasn’t indicating, and can only assume he mistook the repeater (which is on constantly, and flashes when indicating) as an indicator. Either that or he knew he f’d up and thought he’d get a call in before I did 🤣🤷🏻‍♂️

I don't know what model # the front LED turn signal light bulbs are, but on my car I was able to change out my OEM front amber running light/turn signal combination bulbs for something called "switchback" bulbs. When the front lights are on as a continuous running light the LED's are white, but when the turn signal is activated the LED's turn to blinking amber (more of a yellow actually). There's your solution.... if switchback bulbs are available in the LED model required for the NC750X.

I've owned 28 motorcycles, and the NC700X is brilliant. I have a few mods (screen, pipe, bark busters, heated grips, upgraded forks and springs). Out of all my bikes the NC is the best bike ive ever owned. Sure its not as fun as my old full race piped SL1000 or Tuono, not as charismatic as my Guzzi Breva, and not good spread power as my carbie sv650, BUT it does everything well and then in commuting and touring it excels!

By the time you've decided what mode you want to be in I'd be a mile down the road on my Interceptor, unnecessary crap.I use my wrist to decide how I want to ride.

Ha, fair enough. I liked simple riding too, it does help on bigger bikes though, it's needed to control the power. Intercepters are awesome.

Nice bike not sure I like the indicators as cruising lights , I would rather retro fit some good review cheers : )

It makes the bike much more visible from the front without having to pay for aftermarket lights.

I ride my 2021 Nc750x fairly hard and only ride in manual mode so I can make use of the best quickshifter money can buy (paddles) I was riding with a friend who rides a 1000cc Africa twin and this is a transcript of the WhatsApp chat Me: “For only 59 hp I think the Nc750x goes well” At Rider: “Absolutely” AT Rider: “I thought about it on the way. For example, if you drive away after a roundabout, I have to give good gas to keep up with you!!”

My 2017 is not as good in many ways but it still is more than good enough not to change and get a new one. Also I have all the aftermarket stuff on mine which I would need to buy again if I bought a 2021. So for me no , and if I got rid of my 2017 I feel I may want a change.

Tried one, good commuter bike in a city but otherwise I found it soulless and it felt cheap, suspension was crap, lid of the frunk felt like an aldi toolbox, not for me don't see the point of it unless as a city commuter with dct.

Worst motorcycle I've ever had so far. Bought a 2021 NC750X DCT in September and it has been at the dealership since October. I got 70 miles on the bike and the EFI Light came on so I took it back to the dealer. Three and a half months later and they still cant even tell me definitively what is wrong with it. They say they are now waiting for a new diagnostic tool from Honda that is on backorder till the middle of February. Other than that the 70 miles I rode it was enjoyable.

That seems a case of some very bad luck. I'm really sorry to hear that I would be gutted too and pretty hacked off.. Let me know when your back on the road again. Sorry to hear that. 1 in a million that is I expect 😔

Not a pillion bike is right. The only reasons are DCT and price. The NT1100 DCT is a much better bike.

it must be hard doing a review stating = how much better the new bike is and saying how good the old bike is , they are the same but different,,, i would not say no to either ;;;

@@exeterrider Luxury of living where you do - my rides can go from sea level to 1500 ft in a couple of miles and up there your into 4 degrees before you know it! Stay in Exeter if you can!!!
