2021 Honda CB125F Annual Service!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Hello and welcome to the episode, today im going to show you how to perform the first 600 mile service on a 2021 Honda cb125f, this video will cover what oil to use, what tools to use, resetting the service light, chain adjustment and relevant service checks. (you must get your valves checked on your first service 600mile)
The oil im using is castrol power 1 ten thirty, I use this because of the climate in the UK, if you live in a hotter country I recommend using ten forty, the API quality for this oil is SL which exceeds the SG recommendation by Honda, the MA classification and code is JASO T 903 which is also recommended by Honda.
First thing you want to do is run your engine for 5 minutes an get the oil nice and warm, this will make the oil thinner and easier to drain.
After 5 minutes switch the engine off, make sure the bike is on the main stand
use a suitable drain bowl and place underneath the engine
unscrew the oil filler cap as shown
here is the sump drain bolt
use a 12mm socket and loosen the bolt counter-clock wise
unscrew the bolt with your fingers, be careful the oil will come out fast and it will be hot, so I recommend wearing gloves
while that is draining move around to the opposite side of the engine and using a 8mm socket remove the oil filter cover as shown
carefully remove the cover making sure the spring doesn't fall, remove the spring, and then pull out the filter, do not use a screwdriver to remove the filter, give it a wiggle with your fingers and it will come out eventually
note orientation of the filter, the rubber seal side faces the engine,
replace the o ring if you have one, if not put some multi-purpose grease around the rubber seal
push the filter in evenly and firmly, then install the spring
put the cover on and screw the bolts with small increments, working up and down so the cover pulls in evenly
now tighten to 10nm, if you don't have a torque wrench just nip these up and don't put too much pressure on the ratchet
wipe the excess oil off the engine
use a new sump washer, the sump washer is 20mm, if you don't have one and this is your first service the washer will go again if you flip it
carefully screw the bolt in with your fingers, use the 14mm socket and tighten this bolt to 30nm
this model took 800ml of oil, use a jug for accurate readings
fill the engine with 600ml
clean the dipstick and place into the filler hole, do not screw it in.
pull the dip stick out and check the measurement as shown
put another 100ml in and re dip
screw the cap in and clean the excess
start the engine for 1 minute, and check all over for any leaks, now turn it off and leave for 2 minutes.
Unscrew the cap, wipe the dipstick and re dip
put the last 100 ml and re dip, making sure the oil line touches the top marker as shown, its important the bike is on a flat surface and on the main stand here.
Here I tip the old oil in the used container, as you can see I drained 800ml, the same amount I put in, its a good idea to check what you have drained and compare to what you have put in., some engines burn oil so don't be alarmed if its less. Make sure you dispose of your used oil at your local waste centre.
Here is how to reset the inspection light,
with the ignition off press and hold the set button and at the same time turn on the ignition key, the inspection spanner will now go out.
That's the end of the video, hope this has been useful, why pay main dealer prices when you go do it yourself and you know you've done it properly and learnt something along the way, please subscribe for more, until then, Ive been Nick and ill catch you on the next episode

Thanks for another very useful video. One point; the info on the swing arm (and the handbook) shows tyre pressures of 175 kPa (so just a tad over 25 psi) for the front and 225 kPa at the rear. Given the quite tiny contact area of the tyres I'd stick with the lower pressure at the front. I must admit that I did check the pressures just after I'd bought my bike from a main dealer. They were both significantly higher than 32 psi, cold! Can you have too much of a good thing?

  • @nicksepisode

    @nicksepisode

    2 жыл бұрын

Too much pressure isn't very good. If you go between 25 and 32 its absolutely fine and will vary on those ranges depending on preference, rider weight, temperature etc.

The dealer sais it has been overfilled with fuel and there is fuel residue in the Eco chamber and it will eventually dry out. I wanted to check the fault code for myself but this model seems to have changed the OBD connector. Do you know where the OBD connector is located and if a OBD2 scanner can be connected to this model. I have looked under the seat but cannot see the connector there as suggested by other YT videos.

That's strange, it shouldn't put the light on because of over filling. Sounds like the dealer could be making up excuses. Don't sound right to me. I don't know where the connector is and I've now sold this bike so can't check for you. Hope you get it sorted

For the Honda CB125F, the recommended tire pressure is 28 psi front and 29p psi back for the 128kg bike before 2021 and for the newer 2021 117kg model 25 psi front 33 psi back. That being said I think I will stick with something like 27-28 psi front and 30-32 psi back on my 2021 CB125F which seems to work for me.

One thing I learned from Honda is, if they tell you that the engine takes 800ml of oil, It will take 800ml of oil, so you can just pour 800ml and be done with it😊 BUT always check what's the oil quantity required in case you don't need or want to replace the oil filter. You can skip an oil filter change between services as these engines are very well made especially the ESP models.

Assuming that the oil filter is a much smaller version of the kind found in a car, how often does it need replacing? Was there much metal in the oil when it was first drained from the new bike and generally how does the bike perform on hills? Thanks

Ni Nick, looking at the vid 8:06, it sort of appears in the quick flash we get that your distance between the chain centre pins is quite a bit less than 25mm after you tightened. is it ok to be a little on the tighter side? the owners manual seems to indicate a tolerance of 20-30mm, so presumably 25 is just the nominal value and a little either way is acceptable? also when checking the markings on both side 8.50, i measured the gap from what i can only describe as the nut collars straight edge to the edge of the cutout with a steel rule, and made sure both were equal (9.5mm) - would you say this is the way to double check proper alignment rather than just relying on 1/4 turn?, as when i did the adjustment the nut was a little loose and i think i moved it a tad more on one side. many thanks

I have had my CB 125 F for over a week and will be getting to the 600 mile service shortly, I feel competent to do the service myself and have all the gear, just wondering how doing your own service affects the warranty if at all? As far as the bike goes, I am very pleased with it, the gear box has been a bit sticky from time to time but seems to be improving, I also have to be careful not to knock the headlight switch on when using the clutch, but other than that, so far so good. Power wise it seems ok even though I am on the heavier side, but then again I am not used to anything bigger and my cars over the years have usually been relatively low capacity. As somebody mentioned below, would be good to see a tutorial about doing the valve clearances! Thanks again for the tutorial very detailed!

@@nicksepisode Thanks for replying, I have also decided to take the risk and completed the first service today, even though the bike is new, reading through the manual and warranty book, it isn't very specific about having a service done by the Honda Dealer but is specific about using approved Honda parts. Anyway, it is running better with the new oil as expected. One of the other things mentioned in the manual about the 600 mile service is the engine idle speed. I installed one of those tachometers that has a lead wound round the spark plug lead and it seems to be idling within the limits of 1500 plus or minus 100.

it's better to use a carboard sheet to protect the rear tire when spraying chain lube, also your chain tension seems a bit too strong after adjustement, there is a play with rear suspension to account for when adjusting chain tension, before adjustement the chain tension seemed reasonably fine, too much chain tension and you wear chain, sprockets, and ball bearings faster, also front tire must be slightly less inflated than rear tire as marked on the sticker on the swingarm
