I was on the OKINAWA in San Diego, in the 80s.... the NAVY transplanted me, I liked the motorcycle riding weather here, have over 74k miles on GOLDWINGS.... anyhow... was you stationed at one of the bases? or on a boat?

Love this video of the rally! Jim's drone skills are epic. Bubba makes us laugh all the time.

@@innerspaceavailable lol yea.... *I* DO *NOT* like it (eh... not really torques my gears, but still, it's a THING_) when they pull way forward in those little small cars... and you pull'n up thru the lot, THINKIN you just FOUND an *AWESOME* SPOT and blammo, little short 4 foot long car parked in there leaving like 10 feet out behind them!!! ((EXXAGGERADON of course, but still, the concept is valid)) LOL it's like ''OH OH OH FONT SPOT!!!!'' go over there and BLAMMO tiny car in there... lol

I hope you recognize how blessed you are to be able to enjoy your lifestyle. This is not a criticism, but just a realization of how Americans enjoy life and in particular, the rv life. I do not believe people in other countries are as blessed as Americans., in many respects. To be able to enjoy what life and hard work gives you, is what people who have lived and worked all their life are yearning for, have earned and deserve. Unfortunately, not all people are able to afford this, but it is gratifying to see how others live.

We do realize how blessed we are Carlos...and we thank God every day for the blessings He provides. We try to emulate what can be done through hard work and smart money management (budgeting) to enjoy life, and as Americans we are very blessed. Thank you for coming along and hope you enjoy our journey.

It's was a pleasure to meet you both! We had such a great time at the rally and you are so right. The people were wonderful. We started a number of new friendships and learned a lot. The pool was perfect for a nice dip during the heat. So refreshing. We have our rig mostly done and we are working on the trailer now. That or you get really good at driving the semi to town for groceries and other items. The Smart is also fantastic for getting inside the state parks where most of us would not be allowed to park even.

If you join the elks, there is a large number of lodges that have camping facilities that you can stay. Just another thing to consider in your travels.

As a Transport Driver this is something I would enjoy.

This was our first rally and boy did we learn a lot. We were the people in the tiny Ascend trailer in your video. We came to get educated and find out first hand from people who do this full time. Chad did a great job with the classes and I picked up some photo saving ideas from your presentation. I met you for a brief moment, but you and all the other people at the rally were so friendly and encouraging about this life style. Thanks for all your videos and it was nice to finally meet you. After the rally we went to the Wallowa National Forest and camped for 4 days at Eagle Forks.

I guess we have a "little girly truck" with our 3/4 ton!! Wait until I tell my husband you said that...😂 This looks like so much fun and it would be fun to learn more about HDT's. We've talked about getting a "medium size" truck, but we really love our 3/4 ton!! And it does great towing our 5th wheel. Safe travels you two!! 💜

I love the idea of an hdt. After working on them u just can beat it. Problem is insurance issues like restrictions and carriers not covering, to they are the best for blm albeit most don't airdown tires causing traction issues, but most of all if your more then a couple willing to drive a smart car ur transportation when parked is an issue. Plus I kep trying to go smaller from a 38 to a 31 as I want to get away from people and campgrounds. An hdt is adding 25-30 feet to your trailer length as the hitch is aft of the rear axle

Indiana is 5th in corn production behind Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska and Minnesota but #1 in travel trailer production.

I remember those days with milk being delivered in bottles on the porch. It sounds like it was a great turn out at thus rally. I remembered last years rally. I liked the Jeep garage; we tow a 37 foot fifth wheel with a Ford F 450 and we want to take our Landrover LR4, about 16 for long; looks like an HDT is the way to go-might be over legal length; working on it- thanks!

@@SuiteTravels Us also but we have totally changed our travel plans for 2021 some other things have come up so we are in a Failure to Launch place. LOL!! We are leaving Ozark/Springfield tomorrow and heading back to Texas....We hope to meet up with you two in the future for sure! Right now we are figuring out whether to get back into our route just later than planned or just plan on winter in the south....too much going on right now but please you two ENJOY your travels!!

I didn't finish and my fat finger hit the wrong key. I said everything is genuine except Kelly, she is even more beautiful in person. Both Kelly and Jim are fantastic!

I do not have an HDT, but if I could make a recommendation for a bigger park I would recommend Riverside RV park in Laughlin Nevada. I would do it in the cooler months, but it would be a great park for HDT.

You have a beautiful rig & I see you are patriatic but please turn your flag. There are only two ways to hang flags properly. One is stars on top left when hanging on a pole such as a Post Office, School, or Building. The second way is when you have the pole cominging the same direction you have coming out of your rig...the stars should be on the top left corner. It just needs to be flipped around. Thank you. Enjoyed the video and got an education just watching it! Good group of folks and community. I'm near retirement and am starting to look at rigs... I liked the tours of rigs but wonder what kind of miles per gallon you folks are getting in your HDT trucks? We are in Phoenix, so travels would be long distance across the southwest, and that's where the mpg question comes in. And, if you/anybody knows, is there much of a difference between MDT and HDT in mpg's? Thanks in advance! Pete

Thanks for coming along Peter and glad you're getting good information. Most of the owners we speak with say they're getting anywhere from 7 to 10mpg towing. We're averaging 8 1/2. Our MDT got about the same.

My thoughts on these HDT or Big Rigs the owners or drivers should have a class A CDL so they get the knowledge of operating one for the safety of the drivers and others around them my self i operate and own a Peterbuilt 48yrs and every day and night is different be safe

Call this the Pacific northwest HDT rally. Then you can have a west coast.

Hi, it's amazing with just the same basic truck and trailer just how many different variations people can come up with, I liked the little 2 axle day cab truck, I bet that was no longer than a pickup truck, but could easily pull your rig, who you be able to get away using this little truck as your daily instead of a smart car?

Yes Mike....we don't think the small truck was much bigger than a 1-ton dually. It could easily be used as a daily driver. There were so many different ideas this year. Glad you enjoyed it - have a great weekend!

There is a company that custom builds a 5th wheel from a semi trailer frame. Spacecraft is the name of the company and they are amazing!

Nice rig my question is if your truck is titled out of SD As Rd do you need a CDL Class A License to operate the truck would appreciate a answer back Robert Guzman

No Robert. We are not commercial, so we don't need a CDL. SD doesn't require any special license endorsements either.

Can you share the cost to attend the rally, and what that fee includes?

We really don't remember the costs Michael. There is a basic cost which includes all the seminars. There are other optional costs such as the off-site dinner, painting class, t-shirts, etc.. The RV park gives the rally attendees a weekly rate as well. Chad has a website now with all the information: hdtwcr.com. Hopefully that will answer your questions.

Insurance is like everything else....expensive! It's about the same as our 1-ton dually.

@@SuiteTravels Insurance for our motorhome is around 1800 and The 2020 Ram 2500 is 1400. The big thing is to not get charged commercial rates. I do like the 2000 foot pounds of torque from the ISX as well as the ability to drive 10+ hours per day.

18:40 Don't bring that rig to my neck of the woods, it's five feet over-length.

I want to buy the Medium duty Freightliner so bad.... please contact me if it's for sale.

I'm sorry. I was referring to all the little cars. All the rigs were amazing. But the one with the jeep was my favorite!

Is there anyone in South Carolina that has registered their HDT as a motor home/RV ?? I just retired as an Independent Trucker after 25 years and just turned in my Apportioned plates. Motor vehicles here had no idea of how to register my Freightliner Cascadia as a motor home/RV so I had to plate it as a “Property Carrying” commercial vehicle with a GVWR of 34,000lbs and it cost me $1230.00. My tractor and camper weigh approximately 32,000 lbs so I registered it at 34,000 lbs to give me a little breathing room. If I had registered it at 80,000 lbs it would have been over $1800.00!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Like your channel too! ✌️
