    The 3.5 L eco boast is a beast. The twin turbos really put out horsepower.

  • @JsGarage

    @JsGarage

    2 жыл бұрын

    It really cranks out the torque. As seen in the roll race the similar HP figures had them nicely matched. Ecoboost has tons of torque in the low and mid range and that 10 speed helps make up for the HP/torque fall off on the top end. Wish they would give all ecoboost the sound treatment the new raptor got though doesn’t have to be the active exhaust but more so the loop that makes it actually sound like a performance V6.

  • @JsGarage

    @@sherylellingson3538 Actually a stock 3.5L ecoboost has a HP fall off right before redline. It’s not as severe as the torque fall off. Boosted engines do not always continue to make HP through to redline. The small stock turbos lose steam right before redline. Forced induction of choice will determine if power is on the rise through redline. Ford didn’t make the 3.5L to pull hardest at the top they built it for low and mid range torque where a truck would mostly be used.

    all around TQ also. After a few more practice runs I think the rolling runs would be a bit closer. The 3.5 EB is sitting at 500 TQ but also has 400 hp. The Coyote and RAM would be nearly identical and a bit more anxious of a race, I think. *I think RAM has something up their sleeve for 2023, '24. How could ya go wrong with either of these? My favorite for some reason is the 2.7 because you don't expect that to give a decent showing at 70 hp less. Lastly...the V-8 sound! Give me a Coyote, and then a RAM.

Because of my inexperience I was only able to manage mid to low 15s with my best out of 8 runs at 14.98. I know the truck can do better ETs because my speeds through the timing lights were 92 to 95 MPH. I was running against a "tuned" F-150 Ecoboost that was running in the mid 13s so those things can move especially with some tweaking on the computer. Take note because of track rules the person driving the 150 had to wear a helmet. This was a give away that I was in trouble as any one running sub 14.00 or faster had to wear one. .

The turbo torque in instantly noticeable even at partial throttle under 2500rpm, whereas the HEMI doesn't start doing its V8 thing until around 2700~3000rpm. You can stay in a lower gear in the Ford compared to the Ram and also the MPG is also better in this regard.

    I LOVE the 5.0! "Back in the day", I had an early 1980's Mustang GT with a built 5.0 (302) and loved it! However, I just traded a very rusty 2014 F150 with the 5.0 Coyote with only 103,000 miles for a 2.7 Ecoboost. I had planned on driving the 5.0 for many more years to come, but it had a serious rust problem, so it was time for it to go. I NEVER thought a 2.7L engine would work in a full sized truck. Not possible!! Wow....was I wrong!! The 5.0 was a great engine, and it sounded amazing!! But now that I've had the 2.7 for a few weeks, I will take the 2.7 over the 5.0 any day of the week! It's actually a little bit painful to say that, but it's true. The engineers at Ford REALLY know what they are doing. They have taken a small gasoline engine and built it to the standards that a diesel can handle. Hands down, you can't beat the sound of a 5.0 V8, but I have to tip my hat to the Ford engineers for what they have created with the Ecoboost engines. Massive power, incredible engine life, and great fuel economy. If Ford were to come out with a 5.0 Ecoboost.......HOLY CRAP!!! That would be a MONSTER!!!! If that were ever to come onto the market, I would be one of the fist to buy it!!

    The main problem with an Ecoboost is turbo heat and charge air temps. With a stock intercooler an Ecoboost has shown to lose up to 40hp on multiple back to back dyno pulls. So I expect the second run results against the 3.5 have something to do with charge air. If you see high charge air temps on your Ecoboost, you are way down on power. There's a long network of tubing soaking up heat that charge air runs through as opposed to a naturally aspirated intakes short path. I have seen charge air 60 degrees above ambient temperatures even with an upgraded intercooler. I can be steady highway driving in 80 degree weather and have 84-85 degree charge air. Pull in and kill the engine or even leave it idling for a little while and the charge air is in the 130s when you take back off. A similar increase happens after multiple wide open throttle pulls, about 20 minutes of steady highway driving will get it back to near ambient with a constant air flow being drawn through the intake tract. You have to cool roughly 15 feet of tubing. But certainly the 5.7 Ram and 6.2 Silverado are formidable trucks. Put a tune on the Ram and the 2 Ecoboost and it gets really ugly quick for the Ram. My tuned and some bolt ons "still stock original turbos" 2016 Ford F150 Supercrew 4x4 2.7 Ecoboost has ran a dragy confirmed 3.98 second zero to sixty and a 12.46 quarter mile with 215,xxx miles on the odometer. Sealed unopened motor. Hangs tough with a TRX, even with the heavily worn engine. I have seen e50 tuned 3.5 4wd Supercrews with a few bolt ons such as a high flow catted downpipe run 11.7s in the quarter mile at full weight. They sure do respond to a good tune. Great video sir, good fun.

    The last Ford I was in felt like the biggest plastic piece of shit I’ve ever driven. The Rams from 2019 on our 100 times nicer. It’s not even close… Seriously. The 3.5 is awesome but build quality? Don’t think so

    I don't know, I have a 2018 2.7 EcoBoost, if I launch it in rear wheel drive, it goes at a 45° angle. It's not the fastest thing on the road, but that engine winds up quick. But I bought it cause I liked it, not to race. No matter whether you like a Ford, chevy, or ram. That's what matters. I like them all, I was just at the Ford dealer when I decided I wanted a new truck. I'm sure I would have been happy with any of them really.

    Was ecoboost 87 fuel or 93. Makes a difference for sure. Ford puts out numbers on 93. Ecoboost loses power up top with tiny turbos. But u throw a tune on it... high12s low 13s 93, e85 mix low 12s. That said i bought the 5 point slower, and love it
