    Thanis, I had it routed in the weather strip. Glad I got it around the curtain bag. Went on the fuse box side, wires dropped in there easy.

    Well the tip about using a switchable OBD connector for the parking option is very helpful. Thanks.

    Thanks for the information, I have 2 question’s, what are you running power for under the step plate? I assume you only had to run power from the camera to the OBD connection from above? Also is there any issue with the lane keeping assist with the camera in front of the mirror? And is there any reason you didn’t go with the adapter that hooks right up to the mirror. Thanks for all the advice.

    Power under the step is for a radio setup. Check out my 2-way radio install if you’re interested for the details. No problem with Blue Cruise or lane assist although I tried to put the dash cam away from any sensors. The camera for BC/Lane assist is actually in the “stem” of the mirror, so you can’t really block it. On the mirror connection, it looked like it would adversely affect the look for the cable, and the ODB allows for power for “parking mode” so you can run the dash cam for a bit off the car battery. Not a huge deal but I though that might be useful at some point.

    Old fashioned mini USB unfortunately. Garmin seems to be stuck in the past on that front.

    Does the Rearmaster OBDII enable the Garmin's "Parked Recording Mode" or does it just constantly record when parked?

    It provides a non-adjustable 5 minutes of power after you shut off the ignition. I just got the Garmin version that’s supposed to work a little better but haven’t installed it yet.

    Nice informational video. Thank you. Two questions: 1. Why did you need to remove the floor trim? I thought you were running a cable to a 2nd channel in the rear. 2. Why, why did you have to add that background music? Extremely annoying.

  • @TheBigHeavy

    @TheBigHeavy

    Thanks! 1) Removing the floor trim gives you some "wiggle" to the trim piece between the dash and floor panel, so you can get your hand back there to run the cable from the ODB port to the A pillar. 2) All the youtube "celebrities" tell me I should add music. I'm just a big dumb animal so I do what they tell me although it seems several people find the music unhelpful so I may skip it in future videos.

    What I can’t figure out is why we have to do this. I see you have the Platinum, so I’m assuming that you have as many cameras as my Lariat has (6). Not using those as recordable cameras seems like a huge oversight.

    Agree 100%. I’d love to see Ford add this although I’m a bit underwhelmed by what they’ve done with the OTA updates so far, so I’m not holding my breath.

    I wish that they would at least have the power connection up near the rear view mirror. Then you wouldn't have to run cables throughout the truck to the OBD or fuse box.

    What's a reliable dash that has a rear dash unit to look out the back

  • @TheBigHeavy

    @TheBigHeavy

    2 жыл бұрын

    I looked very briefly since the rear unit basically would just show the bed of the truck so I can't offer any good recommendations. Long term, I'd really like to see Ford take a page from Tesla and use the cameras all over the truck as dashcams. Of course that would require them figuring out how to actually send us software updates, which isn't going well thus far.

    @@aaronporter8172 As I worked around the A pillar, I did make it a critical point to disconnect the battery and wait at least 15 minutes for all power flow to dissipate. That ensured absolutely no chance for a potential air bag deployment!

    There has to be electric from the mirror to tap into somehow

    There is, I just liked the OBD port option since it doesn't require splicing anything or having a big adapter up near the mirror.
