Usable power, quality suspension, amazing sounding twin, comfy ergos… with superbike looks. Looks like a solid daily commuter that I could straighten some curves with on the weekends.

My 2019 Supersport was stolen two days ago. Pic on my profile. I was looking at different bikes looking to upgrade. Looks like all I’m going to do is get the newer version 950. Great review! I geared my 939 for more torque so the exciting thing is this has the upgraded torque aspect. Of course, I’ll gear the new one down too. I don’t want to do 160... I just want to get up to a 100 before anyone else. Thank you for this awesome review.

I tried one on for size, and I couldn’t believe how comfortable it is. It’s incredible really!

Great review once more….these things have more than enough torque and power for the road. I ride mine in sports mode all the time, live in the UK and I find the character of the bike is just superb!

Picked a 950S up last month. Love it.. A comfy sportbike that can tour a bit if you desire and still rip it up on the canyons. Not including CC is just dumb considering the electronics on this bike. Do I miss my R1.... not really. My wrists and back don't and I enjoy actually using the gearbox with the usable power. Plus, this thing is drop dead gorgeous.

Thanks for the comparison! Like the improved belly pan. The previous model kind of looked unfinished with that big gap down below. Also like the hydraulic clutch and IMU. A shame they lost the red wheels for the white version. Also a shame they didn't fix the vibrating mirrors. The omission of cruise control and heated grips as standard is a big miss too. But overall a lovely bike -- perfect sports bike for the road. There's more than enough power here!

It looks like they use the same seat from the old model to the new. Are there any differences with the seats? I just ordered one and I'm starting to look at aftermarket seats.

hi Marty, 1) I have to drive 5 hrs to get to the mountains - what is your suggestion for cruise control for the 950s? 2) can you tell us about the mirror blocks which have LED directional lights? Is that after market or is ducati supplying them? thx for the informative comparison.

Great Review, looking forward to test riding one, the deal maker for me will be if the suspension is better for the bumpy country Aussie roads than my Street Triple 765RS which is way to stiff.

My dream bike!

I love my 2020 Ninja 650 with the TFT display but want more HP and torque. In the spring 2022 I will have to check out the new 2021 Ducati SuperSport 950 S. Like they have a TFT display now. Thought they were more expensive, like in the 20K+ range. Was looking at the Ninja ZX-6R but it doesn't have a TFT display and the seating position has me laying on the tank which I don't like.

Good stuff Marty, but maybe elaborate on the "sport touring" characteristics of the Supersport platform. The outgoing Supersport had the Touring package which included side panniers, a taller windscreen, and I think heated grips right? For the new bike you mentioned the panniers are available, but what about the other options? Also it would've been nice if Ducati included cruise control to emphasize the sport touring capabilities of this platform. In fact in my opinion heated grips and cruise control should've been standard.

I just purchased the 2021 950 S and bought the touring package with it here in Canada. This includes the panniers with colour matched accent, taller smoked windscreen and heated grips. These items can be purchased separately, but the panniers alone are almost as much as the whole package.

Same engine as the 939 but at least here in Europe, the 950 is more restricted both in terms of bhp and torque due to new Euro standard.

It would not be a simple swap. Geometry on brackets looks to be different.

I am almost sold on the SS but the Panigale V2 keeps calling my name. The only thing I really don't like about the SS is the windshield. The V2's fairing is so much more asthetically pleasing. If I could just combine the two, that'd be perfect. I wonder what the 2024 SS will be? No more trellis?? More attractive front end/windshield?? Maybe I'll just wait.

I’m 46 and planning to back on bikes. Just find out this bike will be perfect for me.

I've seen the red stitching in the seat frays after some time..

IMU, strengthened gearbox, reduced heat to the rider... This version is the ultimate every-day bike for those who want performance on the street.

Im waiting for ducati to make a 150-170hp version. That is the sweet spot for me.

Really thinking about this. Been a Harley rider for 30 years would this be too much? The Japanese rival to this is the Kawasaki ninja 1000 sx correct?

Hard to say. Best bet is to get to your local dealer and test ride. You may find the ergonomics not to your liking and want something more like the Diavel or XDiavel. 👍

@@augustcooke8032 Not sure which bike you are saying is "lower quality" but the Ninja 1000SX is a proven platform that's been around for a decade and is infinitely better looking than any Suzuki. Harley is just an overpriced joke at this point...

I just put a deposit on the white one of these today and in the back of my mind I'm wondering if I compromised too much as when I went to The Bike Shop I had intended to get the V2 but they talked me out of it because this is my first bike. The more I think about it the more I feel like I'm pussying out and getting a much less powerful bike. Am I making the right decision? I'm having second thoughts and feel like I should move my deposit to the V2. Anybody have any thoughts out there?

Don't deprive yourself from the enjoyment and evolution process that is part and parcel of changing bikes as your skills and experience grow. The SS should be more than adequate as a first bike whereas the V2 could feel overwhelming due to its power and you could see yourself not using its full potential.

Have a 2017 Supersport S with a full Ackropovich exhaust. Approx 120 bhp. I commute and am usually the quickest thing on the road. Plus she's the most comfortable bike I've ever owned. I have a friend with a V2, which he rarely rides because it's just too much power for the street (and it's uncomfortable on long rides). My Supersport is a keeper and I can't wait to take her touring. I wouldn't trade her for a V2, which really performs best on the track. Good luck and congratulations on an awesome new hobby!

Decent comparo of the old vs new but you're way off on the motor changes. There are very few outside of Euro 5.

Thanks for the very good review. But could you say a word about mirror vibrations , This small problem bothers a lot of people. Can you suggest changing for end-bar mirrors fiting with a 2020 Supersport (handle bars lengh), hiding the origin mirror holes and Direction Indicators (under the screen ?) ? Any practical advice is welcome :)

What does the "S" give you that the standard one doesn't?

Stick the 1260 engine is this and I buy it tomorrow for a great sports tourer.

And they stil didn't fixed the mirror problems. About the torque, you can change that with a small computer tunning.

What about vibration being so horrid you literally cant see whats in the mirrors? True or false? What about zero availabily of cruise control? true or false? Factory heated grips? yes or no? As lightweight as mt09? fuel range? Just wondering how practical since it is comfortable to do some touring is it up to that otherwise? I am so tempted but something tells me if I wait one year I can have EVERYTHING for way less cash in a Yamaha R9? maybe? If they get the ergos right ....of course that wont be Italian art but idk maybe much better?

Funny video. It’s not possible that there is a 90% increase in torque in the rev range that Marty references or any other range. He clearly misspoke. I understand the that the useable torque range on this bike is preferable to the old one and one of the characteristics which makes it great on the road vs. the track along with the more relaxed riding position of course.

Not into the design direction of most all new bikes having a front look that resembles an angry bird.

Popular with the middle aged guys and women. ... way to sell ‘em.

Day and night difference. The seat height is a good drop down from where you would be on the 999. All the ergos are different as well. Big reduction in weight on your wrists and you are more upright. Hopefully you have a dealer close by to test ride one.

Why anyone would choose a superbike over the SuperSport for the street almost has to be for the wrong reasons.

Someone forgot the buzzing that still exists today. Unless you are a Ducati fanboy, the Kawasaki 1000sx or even the Suzuki equivalent for 5k less makes more sense !!!

Sure but if you're not very tall and live in a country like France, its quite a big deal since its almost impossible to insure a sportbike around 1000cc, only after 3 to 5 years of experience. And its available in A2 licence, restricted to 47.5cv which is a dumb thing in France since a few years now. RS 660, R7 or Supersport 950. The other 2 look more like toys tbh.

I think your story is a bunch of Poo. Both the HP and Torque numbers from Ducati are actually less for-the new Euro 5 Super Sport. So how can it exit corners better with less torque? Its not possible unless the gearing has changed and you didn’t say that it has. The reality is that Euro 5 has chocked down this bike in both power and sound. The SS has lost 5 hp (113-108) and the torque has also dropped. While thats not eye popping number changes it is enough to make the bike less responsive. TO give you some idea about the power, a 2005-2007 BMW R1200ST made more power and torque than the new SS bike. So how is that progress? It has less power than a 1992 Ducati 851. There is no doubt Ducati made a decision to not give this bike 120 hp and better torque. I don’t know why they did not boost the power a little to separate the SS from competition and lead the class or at least keep up with the Kawasaki and Suzuki. What happens is that the SS rider goes out for a ride with his buddies on the Kawasaki or Suzuki and gets smoked. Both in the wallet, red lights and on the back road. True the Ducati build quality is better. It looks better and it can sound better with a change in pipes. The Kawasaki is priced at $13,199 plus shipping and dealer fees. The Ninja comes with 30 more HP and will totally smoke the SS. The Suzuki GSX-S1000GT is also priced at $13,149 and churns out 136 hp in Euro 5 trim, not shabby at all. THe Suzuki is a better touring option for sure with its optional hard durable saddlebags and 73 ftlbs of torque. The Ducati S model is $16,895. Thats not even close. So the real question is, can the SS sell with better competition with its good looks, design build quality and sweet sound for a +$3500? Only buyers can answer that one?
