Not at all. Model 3 awd, g70 3.3tt base awd, Kia stinger gt awd, lexus is350 awd etc are all better cars with more for less. Even the ancient lexus still offers rwd bias and a better sounding and more precise feeling than this car. And the model 3 blows this out of the water and won't cost you anything to own realistically.

YOU NEED MORE SUBS. Honestly, it felt like I was watching a movie. Never quit youtube. Never have I ever seen videos with a quality like yours! I’m a big fan, I’d love to see your channel grow!!!
Hands down the best car channel on KZread, High quality content even when discussing entry level BMWs!
Likin the chill Dan vibe! Cool to see the other side of you.
Great video Dan. The car itself looks nice, haven't seen it around where I live yet. I appreciate your honest opinion and really like the video format. I feel that a daily driver like this is always a compromise in the sense that you settle for less on some points but it gets you into a more "affordable" option. Your supercar driving experience shows real well when you talk about the driving experience and it's refreshing to hear honesty and true feedback from a real human being instead of highly paid host that don't give any valuable feedback. I am not sure this makes sense for the price they want but everyone has a different opinion about what a car is worth to them.
I really dug this review. It was hilarious, honest, and informative. I'm actually in the market for a used, entry-level "luxury" car and "know" I'm not getting the performance of an Ultimate Driving Machine. I LOVE its looks. No one except BMW owners or car aficionados would know this is a sub-par performing, entry-level car. That being said, you offered some food for thought. Keep up the good work. I appreciated this review!
Oh man! This is a really high quality video! Keep up the great work!
Totally enjoyed the video as usual. Great job!!!
Well…. I just bought the 2021 228i xdrive, in the Storm Bay Metallic. Yes, the purple metallic is hard to see unless the sun shines on it. Now say what you will about this model BUT when you add the M pkg with the chrome 18” wheels & the M steering wheel & super cool grille with rear spoiler, it looks good. Add the PREMIUM pkg & you receive the heated seats, heads up display, interactive map on the dash, panoramic sunroof, remote start, ambient lighting & live cockpit pro…. Oh & a heated steering wheel. All this for $51,000. This is my 4th BMW & my favorite as of right now. Had 3’s in the past, but the new ones are “bubble” like inside & look more a “mom” car. Can I afford a 4 or 5 series? Yes. I like the “compact” feel of this 228i & the way it handles for everyday use. With ALL of the bells & whistles, I get a TON of compliments…. Now I’m off to get the windows tinted. Don’t let the “striped down” model that was featured in his video steer you away, unless you plan on going 120mph all day. Lol

I just got the 2022 228i xdrive with m sport & premium packages and agree! Worth the upgrade if you can get a good deal. While I appreciate his honesty, it just seems like these lower level cars aren't his thing to begin with. I will be graduating graduate school soon and need a new car (preferably a more luxury one) and this one was perfect! Seriously hahaha it's just a car for me to get around I'm not racing in it. It's a win for me: a BMW that I can afford while just starting my career.

I switched over to my 1st BMW after Scania stopped making SAABs (which I had six in a row). I just purchase my 2nd BMW yesterday.
I look forward to your vids every week! Thanks for continuing to post consistently. We all appreciate it! Ps. Will you be doing reviews once the snow finally arrives? I think that would be cool! Dangerous though...
Just bought a 2020 228iGC. First car I’ve ever bought (my first car was a 2012 Cruze Eco) AND I will say I understand the strays that it catches but it’s a lot of fun to drive/a really good car in Chicago or any city. People shouldnt shy away from it based on the reviews especially if you get it for the right price.
Love the video. I just ordered this car online TODAY believe it or not. I’m 25 and this is going to be my daily driver between home and the office when I move to Texas come March, as it takes 2-3 months to be built and delivered. This will be the first new car I own so I’m really excited about it. I haven’t been much of a car guy so some of the technical terms were a bit foreign to me but I’ll use the next three months to learn up! The color was a big plus for me as I really loved the seaside blue during my test drive; it’s pretty refreshing to see. Btw my build has wireless charging, heated seat, optional stereo and all the good stuff. With wireless Apple CarPlay it will be really convenient yet kinda sporty as a daily driver :)

Love and respect! My uncle will be buying this car soon. Only reason he isn’t buying it now is because we live in a small city and he is afraid of unwarranted attention. I told him that many people don’t know the revalue of the car and to buy it. He replied back that he’ll get it after his 11th rental property (he has 6 now). I’m commenting because I find joy seeing other enjoy life. My goal is to purchase a slightly used Camaro. I’m less fancy compared to you and my uncle.
Great Video, so cinematic. I feel on this particular trim since the front end is not as aggressive looking as the M-Package, if they had continued the body paint across the bottom lip and enclosed the lower gloss facia, it would make the front end look a bit more sporty.
I got the 2020 BMW 228i xDrive GC, and mines base but has heated seats. I think the car is great, and it’s an awesome first car. I totally agree when you said it’s not trying to be something it’s not, and for me, personally, the car has everything I need (i.e. wireless charger, wireless Apple CarPlay, blind spot indicators, rear view camera, and all the other great BMW tech.) Yes some may say other cars have way more for way less, but just the look of this car are great, and I don’t regret getting this BMW as my first car because it’s an awesome entry level vehicle. Plus it has some power and if fun to drive on the backroads, 228hp is more than enough for a first car, and if I really want to I could get get it tuned. But mine doesn’t have paddles, which kinda sucks. But shifting with the gear selector is fun.
Great review, I just picked one of these up. 2022 228i XDrive, I am coming from a Mini Cooper S, but I have owned a 335I previously, a G37S, a Jaguar XFR, and a jaguar XJ amongst many others. This year I have driven a few G20 330is for a month as a loaner car, also a M440 i XDrive. I actually really like the way this drives, the interior feels exactly the same to me as the four series and the G20 3 series. In fact the ride is better than the G20, and it is quieter. I really wanted a panoramic roof, and I got a good deal on it. Car ND driver got 5.1 seconds to 60. Which is faster than they got in the 330 I. I also am able to use it some of the performance upgrades that I had from the mini, like my JB4, and cold air intake which is nice. I think that when people drive them and see them in person they learn to appreciate them more rather than judging them from what they have read in reviews, and seen in pictures, your review however is excellent yet objective👌
Kudos for the bottle of Laphroaig too. Classy like the videos themselves.

I'm about to buy this used from a friend @ 24k. In great shape. Based on this review the big issue is price, and im just a point a to point b driver so i think I'm getting it at the price it should be to begin with and im happy with that
Your videos are brilliant
Even tho I feel at times you're being too harsh on this car, I believe your opinion is honest and objective. These kind of reviews, hopefully, reach the top brass at BMW and make a difference in the end. Great show, btw!

I've had my 228i for over 6 months now. It's the second car I've owned and my first BMW. I have to agree with you. It certainly blew me away when compared to the 1998 Chevy Lumina I had driven since high school. But since then, I've learned so much about BMWs and comparable cars that now it seems pretty underwhelming. With the options, my car is even heavier (3,900lbs) and the un-tuned 4cyl just isn't enough. I certainly don't regret my choice and I've had a great introductory experience to BMW. But when the lease is up in 2 years, I'll be looking at a 3 series.

@taylorschuller8386

@ELMarTiLL0 Still solid at 26k miles. Actually considering buying the lease out. I havent had any issues with the engine or transmission, 30+ mpg and I dont drive slow or ever use eco mode. The AWD version is surprisingly fast for what it is and will outpace any stock economy car. My worst experiences have been talking to the service salesmen at the dealership. They say stupid shit like, "Changing the oil early can damage the engine" and "We can pull the nail out of the tire and see if it loses air." I'd argue that I take better care than most people though, so your mileage may vary with a used car.
Funnily enough, I started off by looking at a 235i, then moved on to a 330i, then ultimately bought the 340i. The 340i is the only one that felt truly special and a proper BMW.

Can anyone else chime in here I have a 2022 but I have no paddle shifters, and no fog lights, I realize the chip shortage affected some of the options, I have no home link which is option in my car, no digital key, no wireless charging tray but I didn’t read anything about paddle shifters and fog lights… Does anyone know if these were removed to the chip shortage I assume they must have because my car should have them lol
I have one and mine is fully loaded and I love it
I think this car is essentially a motorway cruiser, daily driver.. M sport spec gives the interior a much more prestige vibe and worth the upgrade .
I believe the transmission and engine is all mini. As such they use 8 speed Aisin.
It’s a sporty commuter. Thats why I got it.

I had one has a loaner. It reminded me of the GTIs I had in the past. I enjoyed it for that and it is about the same price of a loaded GTI and leases better. I was also in the market for a new BMW. I test drove the M235. I enjoyed that, since I always wanted a Golf R. I wanted a loaded one. Then I saw the numbers. For not much more I got an M340. THAT’S THE PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR!!!!
I agree with mostly all your points I had one of these for a rental 3 weeks ago Very disappointing tbh
Idk why the intro when the guy started speaking felt like an ad..
This man is so funny. I laughed out loud when you said you were a terrible asian 🤣5:17
I really like analog gages so to me this is a good thing I don’t want them to go, that’s why I bought the 2021 Hyundai Elantra n line and that car has 201 HP and is 500 pounds less then this bmw.
So glad you wore your racing gloves otherwise you may have lost control 😅😂😢
Could be good to research further on why the car weighs more (potentially attributed to xDrive / platform) and BMW strategically moving to appeal to new customers. Lots of BMW enthusiasts may not have much purchasing power compared to young urban professionals (Audi buyers) and those who are keen to adopt electric vehicles. BMW is making moves to stay competitive in a world where people don’t care about RWD anymore... the narrative around RWD and BMW was crafted to differentiate BMW and the story isn’t resonating anymore.
I can say that within three years this is a great buy at $17,000 orLESS, if you think mercedes tanks BW is HIGHER losses:)

Vehicle weight is tied to safety. This vehicle makes the Top Safety pick list while the Mustang and Camaro has never made the list.
I remember when everyone criticized Chris Bangle for the design of the BMW .. Then what is this? And essentially this is a Mini is below👎
Honestly if it isn't an m car I wouldn't bother. Lexus and Acura both make reliable cars that are just as good as bmws non m cars.
You only buy this car if you must have a BMW badge. A 3 series lease probably isn't much more for a much better car. I can't think of a single reason to buy this car.
We don’t need no stinking gloves 🧤😆😂to drive this car!
Man if I have to start my week with that front wheel drive all wheel drive whatever 2.0 liter turbo automatic BMW pretender, my week would be miserable.
Clearly this car is not meant for you, for a city mom I just returned my A3 and leased this one. I drove 328 over 10 years ago, drove Mercedes Audi Land Rover, finally got another Beamer, it’s a perfect car to let me go from A to B in the big city. And it’s so much more car to the A3. You also got the basic model, there’s heated seats, heated steering wheel, And a panoramic sunroof on mine. 😂
Checked in first...
I give my kids used Corollas not a new four cylinder BMW pretender.
