In regards to the noise reduction, based on your meter, the average Db's is 69.8 for the 2021 and 73.1 for the 2018. That's a 3.3 Db reduction which is noticeable and about what I would have expected.

  • @jrwaters943

It’s actually a huge difference since decibels are not measured in a linear scale. 70db is 4x louder than 50db for example.

I see the tires are Michelin X-Ice for the 2018, and your 2021 has the Michelin Primacy all-season. This might be the difference making the db levels the same. I think snow tires, even Michelin ones, are going to be noisier than all-season especially of the same brand. Tires are one of the biggest factors in cabin noise.

I noticed a difference on the wheels (under the caps). the 2021s are more angular in spots and lose some softer curves on the edges of the spokes vs the 2018 ones. I definitely prefer the 2018 wheel that has these smoother edged spokes and had the aero caps off of my 2018 Model 3 since I got it with the caps installed and black lug nuts. I hope if I need a replacement wheel in the future (already need one once) that I can still get the same exact wheel I have and not the 2021 version...

In my local tesla dealership they have in stock ready to deliver a new 2020 with a 1,000 dlls discount, would you rather take that chance or still wait for a 2021? I do prefer the chrome around of the windows of the 2020 but I also like the new features in the 2021, still, I don't really need the pump, here's always hot.

Supposedly the 2021 brake calipers aren’t painted or Tesla branded anymore? I’m also definitely in the group of preferring the chrome, I feel like it makes the car seem more elevated, but maybe that’s just me. Also the vinyl install on the older center console is not difficult if you’re patient at all. For me it took maybe 20 minutes, came out perfectly using one of Nikola Pro’s kits. Good comparison video.

I’m really disappointed with the lack of improvements to the noise insulation :( The road-noise in the cabin is the deal breaker for me - coming from a Mercedes E-class, where you can talk at normal “speech levels” with your passengers at highway speeds - the model 3 fees like being in a tumble dryer (at +100 km/h), and you have to speak quite loud to talk together, to overcome the road rumble :( But also - after having tested the Mercedes EQC - everyone other car is disappointing noise-insulation-wise :p
