Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The 2020 Zero SR/S electric motorcycle is the latest flagship model from Zero Motorcycles. The English Electric Motor Company kindly loaned me their demo to give it a whirl, so I thought I'd take it to a nice quiet car park I know????

    Come on Zero, get into the DC game, with DC charging touring is a viable option and it's all Zero need to be a genuine ice bike alternative. If a 10 year old Nissan Leaf can do it....... I'm looking forward to the Japanese getting into the EV bike game as I want my Yamaha MT-E 👍👍

    It's a nice enough looking bike for sure, and all the luggage makes it a proper every day bike. At the moment the usual things are a concern though. 1 Cost (It's an expensive bike and unlikely to come down in price anytime soon) 2. Range and rate of charge. (Getting better in both but still an issue) The weight of it reminded me of your views on the GS. It IS heavy but carries it low down and once you are cognisant of that in braking areas etc then it ceases to be an issue. I still don't think I could have one as an only form of transport atm but I'm also sure that the power and torque would never get old! Cheers for the vid Bruce!

    The biggest issue with these, as the comments suggest, is the cost. Theres the heady cost to purchase which is somewhat mitigated by the savings on fuel but it's the whole cost of ownership. The replacement batteries are scary prices (as per your podcast with the English Electric Company). Add in the limited market and hence ease of resale/residual cost and all I can say is good luck and thank you to the early adopters. Rather their money investing in the future than mine.

    Think about how well battery powered electronics like computers and phones age... probably better to get them new and ride them til they're dead, they'll all need new batteries and some random expensive part they didn't design right after like 10 years.

  • @cpuuk

    @cpuuk

    @@zachmiller9175 you touch on the current issues, which is the re-conditioning of used batteries back into the system. This isn't there in any meaningful form, hence when the battery final poops, the cost of replacement means you dump the entire vehicle.

    Interesting bike mate. If you ever need it, I can point you in the direction of some other stopping points around Bewl, but they are all pretty busy in the summer. You can get into the main carpark on a bike without paying too from one spot. You can also fly drones there too, just cant take off from the main area you started at.

    Info idea-in general my understanding is when turning its best to turn body and head in the direction of a turn first when road riding. I recently saw a video of a track/racer type that said its best to slide toward tank and rotate around the tank with hips/back end half off the seat (so that you are twisted opposite the direction of turn). Some thoughts or insight into pros and cons of each approach might be useful. Me --- I'm sticking with shoulders and head turned in the direction of the turn (with back side slid off a bit in direction of turn).

    Great vid Mr T(pot). I was really keen to go electric for commuting but cost and range were inhibiting factors. Also - is it really good enough to not have a decent back brake? Is that just a function of it not being big enough for the weight or whatever? Rear brake is often recommended for control rather than stopping power, helps settle the bike - relying purely on the front stopper with such a heavy machine risks putting a lot through just one contact patch...?

The first one is say i am out with the gang on our saturday ride with shall we say enthusiastic riding we normally do about 200 miles, at about 100 miles in i say sorry chaps got to stop for one hour to charge my bike i would get the finger so at this time in the evolution of electric bike it just not work for me.The second point is why don't bike manufacturers get the youtube thing it is a massive thing in the bike world and free advertising for them and not to say excellent for the likes of yourself. the last is about the IAM comment you must ride like you are invisible to all road users.top content rant over.

  • @teapotone

    @teapotone

    Aye that’s very true sadly Steve, electric bikes aren’t quite an ‘equal’ to Petrol yet in terms of practicality, but some models aren’t too far off. The new Energica’s are boasting ranges of around 130-220 miles with recharge times of around 25mins, so is love to give them a go in real world conditions to test that out. I think manufacturers are catching on to the whole KZread/social media thing now. Certain brands like KTM and Triumph have been leading the way for a few years now and engage with ‘influencers’ regularly. Others like Yamaha and Kawasaki seem to be very late to the party, but I’m sure they’ll switch on eventually. Good point about defensive riding, you can’t go wrong with that 👍

    I would go electric if the insurance fully comp come down from what they are currently, I am thinking if the super sacco had a bigger brother I would use it for commuting to work. zap map app is good app, I would get the quick charger instead of the additional battery pack, means you can charge up quicker more often, shame that zero do not do the dc charging option.

    Need to get range and charging sorted otherwise it’s just to and from work and short trips. I’d love to be able to tour with 150 miles range and 20 min recharge it could work . It would have to be 2 up with luggage and motorway speeds too though

    I'm struggling to have fun using calimoto recently.. initially it was really good but now even selecting the third option like yourself, you still can't ride faster than 50mph most of the time, and sometimes still get into those farm lanes and you can't see anything ahead in the corners. I'll try the second option "straight" roads more often.

    I love your reviews and will continue to support this channel by watching however, I recently watched a film by Michael Moore called "Planet of the humans" which has interesting and quite shocking points about how batteries are made and the manufacturing of wind turbines, solar panels and if they last long enough and are they cost effective in terms of the environment. It stopped me from looking further into purchasing a battery powered vehicle because it bought up some very good questions.......how much do I really know about this new planet saving energy movement and how far away are we from better manufacturing processes that are kinder to our environment and truly sustainable products? Just a thought!! Anyway with that out of the way, good review as always and look forward to the next one. 😁👍🏾

    Hi! I've seen many reviews of electric vehicles, and nobody talks about the battery lifespan. Can you shed a little more light on this? Can you ask the manufacturer how many years the original battery pack lasts, how many charging cycles? And how much it cost to replace it? And does it cost something to dispose of the old one or do they accept it in return? Thank's!

    Did a 350 mile round trip on my cheap 3 grand bike today with a 5 minute stop for fuel. The price needs to go down a lot, and the range needs to go up, a lot. If it takes more than 10 minutes to charge for 200 miles, I wouldnt even consider it. I dont understand how they can market this as a tourer when you have to stop for 4 hours every hundered miles... Edit: Its all beside the point anyway, I can't afford to spend £20000 on an electric bike which can only be a second bike as it currently stands. I'll have another look in 10 years.

    Given that the Zero SR/S it touted as a Sports Tourer; I wonder - would you do a review on SatNavs - not just if they are suitable for a bike but how about if they are suitable for an electric bike? Electric Vehicle suitable Eco routes, charging points as well as the options for twisty roads :) A lot to fit into a small box :)

    Please show how IAM advanced rider training is for anyone on any bike, not just boring old farts in hi-viz on BMWs & Pans. I had those socially inherited misconceptions about them for decades before I finally took the plunge & discovered how very wrong I’d been = they are avid riders, on all sorts of bikes, with a wealth of experience to share.

    So, what becomes of the value of petrol/diesel vehicles when electric takes over? Do they instantly become value less or will there be some sort of transfer over scheme? I.e. It you've been fortunate enough to be able to buy a £15 grand bike now, will it be worth nothing in 5 years??

    I'm curious about electric but i think I'm an old dinosaur now. I've had my Firestorm since 1999. Big old v twin with lots of noise and character. It sounds like an old lancaster coming home from a raid! Maybe a test ride would help on a zero. Not going or able to buy one as i say I'm curious but would i miss the sound track and feeling from my v twin. The range in your zero is comparable to my storm. Charge, range anxiety would be forefront in my mind though. I'd like to know more about this bike
