2020 Yamaha XT250 Pandemic Ride Thru The Canyons. Review after 5 months of ownership.

Moto Press Play Season 2 EPS14
Hello everyone and thanks again for watching this episode as we kick off season 2 of the channel series. Just doing a 5 month review of my 2020 Yamaha XT250. I was getting bored with this bike for a bit until I gained enough confidence to ride it more on the freeway. This bike is more than capable to handle the freeways. It won't go fast but you can go 70 mph at most which is plenty for most freeways and highways. This bike is also great in the canyons as I love to ride on my R3 in the canyons. Unfortunately, there has been a recall for all 2019 Yamaha R3's regarding the front brake leaks. There's nothing wrong with my 2019 R3 it's just been taking a while for the replacement part to arrive at my local dealership. In the meantime, I get to spend more time riding the Yamaha XT250 and it's the perfect all around bike and now I know why this bike is legendary. It's air cooled, fuel injected, low maintenance, reliable, and most importantly it's Made in Japan so for the price range, you're getting a really good quality motorcycle that can do it all.
I hope you enjoy this episode and please leave any comments and concerns.
Also, press the subscribe button. Thanks again for watching and I wish you all good health and ride safe from this pandemic.

    Thank you for watching! It’s the closest thing to a dirt bike that happens to be street legal. Made in Japan so it’s bulletproof. 290lbs wet, low seat height at 32” since I’m a short rider, air cooled, and fuel injected so you don’t have to worry about starting it up on cold weather. Just took this bike to Idaho and perfect for trails and single track. Great mileage too for a 2 gallon tank I get around 60-70 miles per gallon Only cons are no gear indicator, no tachometer and no fuel gauge but it does a have low fuel warning light. Other than that, it’s a great all around bike. Ride safe 🤙🏾

    Love this review bro, I'm suprised you max at 72, my XT is new too and when I first got it I hit 84 on it before and got scared when it started wobbling a little. I recently got her up to 80 for fun on the highway just to make sure she still can do it. I usually just zip around town at around 50-60 mph with ease. I'm completely stock as well. This honestly is a great bike man it's very reliable and FUN.

    I should get one of these. Just about everything I'd need to do with a motorcycle I could do with a 250 dual sport. If you decided you just love dual sports but wish you could go faster you should look into the DR 650. I had one years ago and it was awesome. Did a lot of on-off road with mine. With road tires I was able to keep up with the crotch rocket guys until they got to a big straight away. With a few relatively easy mods the DR 650 can do whatever you want it to do.

    Great video. I own a YZF450 and a VSTAR 1100 cruiser and I always wanted something somewhere between those two, and I think a dual sport was just what I was looking for. A bike that I can hop on the freeway and/or take to the desert and off-road whenever I want and my kids can keep up with me on their KLX110s. I think the XT250 meets all my requirements and the fact that it is fuel-injected is a bonus for me. I can't wait to pick mine up at Langston Motorsport this weekend. 😃

Dealerships only get allocated for maybe two or three bikes , and every single one of them are sold before they ever even hit the showroom floor ! Good day! I've seen one of these at my local dealer. I'm 5'6 and was quite shocked when I was able to straddle it and have my feet make contact with the floor. Fell in love with that sand colored XT250! Been watching a lot of KZread vid's about the bike. I'm interested in offroad/forestry trail type of riding. Would this be a good bike for that? Honestly this is the best adventure bike I've seen after getting it. You can do freeway at about 65mph, or you can do local roads if you're actually into sight seeing during long trips, it's cheap, it's indestructible, it's light in case you drop it during off road trails, with some mods you can carry just enough gears. After riding this I really don't see what's the point of having a 1200cc $20k adventure bikes

It has a seat height of 35 inches. My inseam is 30 inches. That’s when the XT250 came in perfect. Low seat height, lightweight, durable, air cooled and fuel injected. I don’t have to deal with carbs or the radiator. You can really go travel across the country on this bike. I would just add a seat pad or get wider seats. Thanks again and ride safe. 🤙🏾

    Hey Collin! I owned an xt250 for 4 months before it had gotten stolen. It is definitely a great bike, and I loved it dearly. However, if you're looking for something that is super highway capable, you will get tired of the xt's power quickly. It can do highway, but it is not the happiest doing it. Furthermore, the chassis produces a lot of vibrations at that speed. If you're looking for a low seat height and very forgivable power and weight, the xt is for you. After my xt got stolen, I went out on a limb and got a crf300l. For me, the added weight is very negligible and the added 6th gear is super nice. For only a couple of hundred dollars more, the CRF is the more solid all-rounder bike. Despite this, if there were current offerings from yamaha in the 300 class segment, I would have went with a yamaha.

    Jeffrey Duke thank you for watching! The DR650 is a great bike! The only reason I went with the Yamaha XT250 or Serow is the seat height is lower, weighs less, and fuel injected compared to the DR650 which is carbureted. Although, the V-Strom is an awesome bike as well and can do it all. I would suggest looking to also try the Yamaha TW200 and the XT225 as you might find them cheap on the used market as well. Here in the UK I have a bike licence that enables me to ride any bike, at present I don't have one, but to be honest if I was in the market for a Tenere style machine I would tend towards BMW. However the XT250/500 of old 1980/81 are in great demand here in the UK going for "Stupid Prices"; extreme example on e-bay:- www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1976-YAMAHA-XT500-c-very-original-unmolested-classic/363007688516?hash=item5484f1bf44:g:c7wAAOSwFbFe0WvZ . There must be a market for an XT250 in the UK. Since replying to your video and looking at other vids too I've discovered the are DT175's that look new kicking around in Columbia with the same engines as the one I use to own in 1981. My be I'm old and long for days past; it would also help if I had a job, as I lost mine in January, where I could afford to import an XT.

    Cc Foley this would be the best bike to start riding with. Really light. Easy to maintain and it’s fuel injected so you don’t have to worry about the choke and warming the bike up like most carbureted bikes you learn on MSF. Remember you that you will eventually drop your bike and this bike is durable and you will just pick it up and go back to riding again and you won’t have to deal with fairing damage like I did on my R3 since it’s a sportbike. Almost like riding a bicycle. This is my 2nd bike but If I had to start over, I would pick this bike as my first over my Yamaha R3. The only reason I would not recommend this bike for a beginner is if you are shorter than 5 foot 3 inches but I’ve seen shorter people on dirt bikes with a 37 inch seat height. @conceptcs Yes I don't usually pass the double yellow. It's just the roads have empty due to the pandemic. But I will take your advice seriously moving forward. So apparently, they are discontinuing all Yamaha XT250's and the Serow as well. 2020 will be it's final year of production. Due to "increasing emission requirements". But if you can get a used model, try to get one from 2013-2020. Those are the years when Yamaha converted the Yamaha XT250 and the Serow to be fuel injected. I think Yamaha is moving forward to push the T7 or Tenere 700 out there as middle Adventure/Dual sport bike. They are still making the Yamaha WR250R and the TW200. But another great option is the Suzuki DR650. I rented it riders-share.com the Suzuki DR 650 is great bike.There's ton of used ones out there. Air-cooled as well but is carbureted. But it's easy to clean. That might b something you can consider just the seat height is about 35" inches. I'm a short rider about 5 foot 6 inches and I was bale to ride this bike with ease. Isaiah Ardena thank you for watching! Honestly, it all depends on how much you will be carrying with you for long distance travel. This bike can run for hours as long as you’re not going full throttle for hours. I say around 60-65 mph tops on freeways and highways. Make sure you check weather for wind conditions. Lastly, this bike only has a 2.4 gallon tank which will probably give you around 120-130 miles of gas on a full tank. Just proper planning and making stops at gas stations should do it. It does have a fuel warning light indicator when low on gas. It’ll probably give you another 30miles tops before it’s completely empty. Oh and I would add padding on the seat too because the stock seat is super narrow. I provided the link you want to add padding on the seat. They’re fairly cheap around $18. I hope that all helps. Try going to a dealer and just get a feel for this bike. This is the last year they are making this bike the 2020 model. They are discontinuing making new models for this bike. • @play1films

    @play1films

    4 жыл бұрын

    grumpysquid thank you!! For the 1st few months riding on freeway or highway, it gets pretty sketchy and it didn’t feel stable. But a little after a month I got used to it. You just need to sit back a bit further on the seat to stabilize the bike. For maintenance, just mainly oil change. The beauty of this bike is it’s air cooled and fuel injected no carbs. Just do the average maintenance like check oil, check tires, and definitely get a battery tender and use it for like once a week overnight. Finding neutral could be difficult at first but you’ll figure it out once you start riding it. Maybe that’s just part of the break in period. Mods I would suggest that I’m sill planning is to change the air filter, getting an FMF slip on exhaust, get a skid plate, get a bigger wind screen, get bigger footpegs, and get higher handle bars or bar risers but that’s mostly for off road when I’m standing up most of the time and maybe get more street tires like 80% street and 20% off road similar to any scrambler tires. I think that would definitely help a lot riding on highways since the tires are less knobby. Right now my tires are stock and 50% road and 50% off road
