2020 Volvo XC60 Polestar Engineered | Not Quite An XC60 R...

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

If you thought that the 400 horsepower XC60 T8 was Volvo's answer to the Audi SQ5, you're apparently wrong, that's what the new XC60 Polestar Engineered is for. Using the same basic PHEV system, the XC60 PE dials the power up to 415 ponies, adds Öhlins adjustable dampers, fender flares for bigger tires and general aesthetic tweaks. Does the combination of upgrades make this the successor to the now-defunct R brand? Not quite.

Alex, very helpful review. From the stock suspension tuning, is it as soft as it will go already or can it be made any less firm from stock? I have a xc60 with air and 21's and am wondering if this P with 21's with dialed softer susp settings would be at all comparable? I don't really want a noticeably bumpier ride, but I would trade slightly bumpier for better handling overall.

That's the current plan unless someone else comes out with with a plug-in hybrid in the same size that is nice looking, punchy and tuned toward comfort. Oh, and not ugly so no Lexus' need apply. Hi Alex! Thank you for all your amazing review videos! I am a CA resident and I recently bought a 2018 used T8 Inscription. I absolutely love it (thanks for the reco), but when I went to the DMV in Los Angeles they said the vehicle isn't available for car pool lane certification. The DMV is the wrong place to go, you have to submit the documentation by mail. If the car is used then you have to be sure that the first owner 1) didn't get stickers already and 2) if they were forced to chose between stickers and the rebate that they didn't choose the rebate.

On P2 cars, there are quite a few tuners could do a great job in bring out true colors of what P2 engines can do. I wonder if these new bread of Volvo engines could take the kind pressure like the P2 can. In any case, making over 300bhp on a 2 liter engine is already quite an achievement by itself.

DreiZ Yeah the average family will need practicality, space and they don’t have the means to buy 2 cars. The parents maybe will want some fun and excitement in their family car so this SUV makes sense. You could ask yourself why they don’t buy a wagon which does that better and is more fun due to the low ground clearance and aerodynamics :) Myself, I prefer the V60 over the XC60 and have ordered one in the PSE trim, but in our times SUVs are more used in a « statement ». Having a high ride vehicle means for the buyers being higher than the average person, and this sentiment of superiority motivates many buyers into buying crappy FWD SUVs that are not even beautiful or qualitative. The thing with Performance SUVs and especially Volvo, Audi or Alfa Romeo is that they achieved to get a proper Sport Utility Vehicle !

Premium brands make money selling utter nonsense cars like "sport" SUVs. An SUV will never be a sport car, no matter how many Polestar or M stickers you put onto it! 15 HP more power does not do anything in a track conditions with car like this. Ir is the CG which limits you and with an SUV the CG is HIGH. So have a car with a stiff suspension which is not a sport capable car (yes you can tune it don manually but is so much inconvenient), the seats are compromised, with fewer options but at higher prize. And on this particular car the power balance FWD-RWD is so bad that it is hardly a track car. Overall a BS cars for those who have no idea about sport but have thick wallets instead. Need a proper "sporty" car? Go and get S60 T6 Polestar engineered with AWD on high level. Need a real sport car? Have money? Go and get the Polestar 1 where the power balance is right in place and CG is where it should be!

With the two car lines, the plant has the capacity to produce up to 150,000 cars annually. The American-built S60s are exported around the world through the Port of Charleston. 93% of all corn is grown in the united states is never fed directly to people, but instead used as livestock feed. Corn used to produce ethanol contains a high amount of starch and is not easily digestible by humans. I really hope they used switchgrass. E85 is widely used in SWEDEN most of that fuel is imported from Italy and Brazil. Ethanol first use was in power engines in 1826 and later after the civil war Henry Ford's Model T in 1908 was fueled by ethanol. If you used an electric battery powered weed eater you would know these electric cars are going to suck. Especially during snow and other bad weather if you are out in the middle of nowhere your not going to be able to plug these cars up anywhere but you can dump a gas can full of alcohol in the tank and drive back home. Simple neat and could be the fuel answer of the future but our governments and corps are going towards electric. I think its because they want more money from electric companies. We;'re talking $100's of billions of dollars from electric use.

LongHuII That’s a good idea yeah but using E85, a classic petrol engine will need more fuel and therefore have a higher MPG. It is used in Sweden yeah but mostly in race cars. Volvo used e85 since they began their WTCC trial :) V8’s fuel consumption is already high and pollutive, so I don’t see the point in making High cylinder ethanol engines. Otherwise, their current petrol engines and their previous 5 cylinder take E85 without difficulties, they Engineered it to do so :)

I'm not sure where you get this from. The *only* Volvo made in China sold in the USA is the S90 which is the lowest volume sedan in the lineup. The best selling sedan is made in the USA and the rest of the lineup is made in Sweden or Belgium. Volvo's plan is to build *more* in the USA, not less. So the next gen XC90 is coming to South Carolina as well.

This is an idiotic amount of money for an XC60. At $73,000, you can get a Porsche Cayenne which is not a Chinese-made front-wheel-drive car (and has a far better interior space) or a BMW X5 50i if you want something much faster than the Volvo. Even if you don't go crazy with Volvo options, BWM X3 M40i is just as fast with a nice-sounding straight six engine and proper RWD driving dynamics. And if you don't care about driving dynamics and just want tech and a nice interior, get a Hyundai Palisade.

Remember than this gets a $5000 tax credit plus up to $5000 in state incentives which an X3, SQ5 and GLC 43 would not get. That makes this less expensive than comparable models. It's also worth noting that this is made in Sweden.

You'd have to at least get a GTS or even a Turbo to match the performance of the XC60 T8/P*. Even my T6 XC60 is faster than a stock Cayenne off the line. :-P Further, in top spec, I don't find the Porsche to be any better overall on the interior than the Volvo. And yes, I've driven both, both in top interior specs. Yes, the Porsche is a bit more flashy... but you also have to live with gloss-black everywhere. The infotainment is worse and the center console buttons are pretty bad. The Porsche will handle significantly better in the curves/bends than the Volvo, and in the Turbo spec, it's certainly much more fun to rev out, but that's about it. If you actually look at equally-equipped models, the Volvo is cheaper, by a fair bit. Finally, what's with the "Chinese-made" as a negative? Volvo engines are made in Sweden, the transmissions are Japanese, and the electronics are German, regardless of assembly location. Final assembly can be in the USA, in Sweden, in Belgium, or in China. It's mostly made by robots regardless, and there is no quality difference between the various assembly plants. In fact, if anything, the Chinese plant was so insistent on matching the European quality, they actually had BETTER BUILD QUALITY than the Swedish or Belgian plants. The USA plant is actually the one that's the newest, and is requiring the most effort to catch up to the others. ;-) Geely/Volvo were quite smart in how they structured Volvo. Geely makes plenty of cut-rate cheaper Volvo-derived cars, but they're Chinese-market only.

@@shammyh T8 does 0-60 in 4.9 seconds, base Cayenne in 5.1. You do not need the GTS. Interior quality is subjective - I find Volvo seats uncomfortable and Cayenne for sure has more rear space (rear-facing car seats in XC60 wit a tall driver are a no-go).

  • @Ficon

@@AAutoBuyersGuide Would it actually be less expensive though? X3 M40i is 55k, X5 40i is 62k, Cayenne is 66k. All would still be on par with the XC60 T8 as you have it specced AFTER the tax rebates. If you are shopping on driving dynamics/refinement (as I do), the value argument about which car has more cameras and electronic gizmos no one actually uses is irrelevant.

Unreliable junk. When your front wheels are doing a burnouts/torque steering, that's not luxury. This T8 design is poorly programmed and just not enough power in the rear. That twin charged over boosted four cylinder will not make it through the warranty period.
