    MusikMan8675309 Electric cars have just as or more building impact as any other automobile, and they are way worse due to the fact that there are no clean power plants, they put the pollution out in much more concentrated form which is in someone else’s neighborhood and the transmission of energy through the lines looses 50%, and every power plant has more hazardous issues than just the discharge or in the case of nuclear ☢️ there is no safe disposal and it has a half life of a quarter of a million years. Then there is the manufacturing pollution and carbon impact for the lithium batteries not to mention the nighttime of disposal. I have owned 10 Volvos 53 years and have 3 that are from 35 to 22 and 23 years old with 750,000 miles on them and I don’t plan on buying another car till I die unless someone hits one of my vehicles. Clean energy doesn’t exist and people are being fooled to think that they can snub internal combustion engine owners with their little green tree tag. One more thing about me I have two degrees both from environmental planning with a strong focus on ecology. So don’t be fooled. The old professor Live Free or Die!

    It's hard to find an inscription test of the xc40. The R Design is the one with the orange carpet and door panels and it seems that's the one that's always tested. It comes with a stiffer suspension and sometimes larger tires. This car seemed quiet, strangely quieter than its bigger, more expensive brothers.

    I have owned 10 Volvo since 1967. Presently have 3. I work with my father from age 10 to 20, and I have enjoyed working on my Volvos as a form of stress relief...well a diversion with a different type of work. This XC40R looks like another fine vehicle. I have heard that Volvo will only be hybrid or electric next year. I have a little problem with that even though I have two degrees from Environment based curriculum. To keep it at a minimum of words, here are the primary problems. 1. We Do Not have a CLEAN Power Supply. All fuels for generation of power today are not clean. The pollution is simply relocated somewhere else and is much more concentrated. 2. The transmission of power is very inefficient. You can hear the electricity leaving the high powered transmission lines and returning to the atmosphere. Some estimates put the loss at 50%. So in essence, your electric car is doubled the amount of fuel per mile. Until a really clean generation method is developed it might be better to continue to improve efficiency and emissions as we have been. I know about the pollution aspects of petroleum, but cars are radically improved over my lifetime. So if you are honest, the answer in great part is the increase in the number of cars on the road which reflects that the most critical aspect is population increases and the number of people who have risen to an income level that can afford a car. 3. The battery industry’s environmental impact during production and as a waste byproduct. When you couple this with there short life, added weight and limited range, I see an environmental liability for all of these factors that more than likely are greater than petroleum at present. Eh, I don't choose to use the paddles because the transmission isn't good at choosing gears. I use them because they keep me a bit more involved with the driving and because they let me use engine braking. I would not give Volvo a pass for laggy paddles just because the transmission shifts well and times itself correctly, they have to get the whole thing right.

    If you’re wanting to be “involved with driving” and you’re looking at a car like this, you need to reevaluate. First starters, look at the right type of car. This, like 100% of volvos and 80+% of cars aren’t designed for the kid racer who wants to be “involved with driving” and aren’t bought people who want to be “involved with driving”. Gotta look at the right market dude,

  • @vomErsten

    @vomErsten

    @@10293 That's certainly one way to look at it. Another is that Volvo is sending mixed signals with the product and its marketing and needs to do a better job at crafting the message or making the product fit the message. Paddles were literally an advertised feature on R-Design trims before they removed them for MY21 to cut costs, so it's their bad for not making them usable.
