2020 Toyota Highlander Has Taken Down The Kia Telluride From The 3 Row Seater Throne, or Has it?

This time we are finally comparing the 2020 Toyota Highlander vs 2020 Kia Telluride.
⬇️GET YOUR DISCOUNT HERE ON THE TOYOTA⬇️
conquestcars.ca/carlegion/geo...
The Telluride has been the king of 3 Row Seater for awhile now. The new Toyota Highlander has joined the race, has Toyota finally done it?
Let’s talk about prices and packages. The Kia Telluride in Canada the base package called EX starts at 45,000 dollars in the USA the base model called LX and starts at 32,000 dollars. The US markets gets different names and packages compared to Canada, the top trim level in Canada is called SX Limited, in the United States it’s called just SX which starts at 42,000 dollars. In Canada the top trim SX Limited starts at 53000 dollars, or you can add nappa leather option that gets you to 54000 dollars. The one that we have today is the SX Limited the top trim which starts at 53000 dollars. Now how does the Telluride compare to the 2020 Highlander?
The Toyota Highlander in Canada base model which it is a FWD drivetrain called the Highlander L FWD starts at 40,000, in United States, the packages offered are similar, the base model starts at 34,600 dollars, meanwhile the platinum package starts at 47,000 dollars. The Telluride doesn’t offered a FWD drive, but it does offer AWD. The models shown for this video are both the top trim you can purchase, the difference in price in Canada is about 1000 dollars more expensive for Telluride, in the United States the difference is the other way, the Telluride is cheaper by 4000 dollars compared to Highlander for the same trim.
What do they offer under hood? Well the Telluride only offers one engine and one drive train, V6, 3.8L naturally aspirated that makes 291 bhp with self leveling suspension system and multi terrain select option. The Highlander offers a little bit more, as I mentioned a FWD and AWD, 295-hp, 3.5L, 6-cylinder Direct Injection Engine and 8-speed Automatic Transmission. The AWD drivetrain offers the same engine with added features for the platinum which are Dynamic Torque Vectoring All Wheel Drive System with Rear Driveline Disconnect, and Multi-Terrain Select.
Let’s talk about dimensions, Telluride has longer wheelbase, it is wider and better length compare to the 2020 Highlander, but not massive difference. When it comes to cargo volume, well the Telluride does offer more cbft compared to the Highlander, behind the first row seat, the second and third row seat. The biggest difference is the third row seat at 21 cb ft for kia and 16 cbft for Highlander.

You asked for it, here it is. Your favorite? One point: when I said the 2020 model doesn't change from the 2019, my point was, the Telluride sold in 2019 it is the same as the one that is currently sold in 2020. They never made a 2019 model although it was sold in 2019....thanks.

I'm a big fan of the Toyota 4Runner, but it is basically a truck. It shines most when it's offroad. I totally get why your wife went with the Telluride. More refined and comfortable, easier handling and smoother ride, plus all the tech and comfort features you could ask for. Telluride is definitely the better daily driver, and with a 10 year powertrain warranty, not much to worry about for many years to come.

@@danguelph2676 They have been out for OVER a month now. I test drove a 2020 Highlander over 3 weeks ago, and then test drove the Telluride back to back, right after that. For me, the Telluride is MILLION TIMES better than the Highlander, and I am an TOYOTA LOYALIST because of the reliability, durability and longevity of TOYOTAS. For me the 2 most important factors, in that order, are: Reliability , durability and longevity (MOST important) Refinement and quietness of the engine, and SOFT ride - comfort (2nd most important). The Highlander had a NOISY AND UNREFINED engine that sounded terrible, even at low to moderate RPMs. There was that *engine drone.* The Telluride engine was *DEAD QUIET,* and I could not hear the engine even close to 4000 RPM, when I had pressed the gas pedal. The ride comfort (softness) was about the same with both vehicles (Telluride with 18 inch wheels). So, it's a big dilemma. I want the LONG-TERM reliability of the Toyota, as I know the Telluride will not be anywhere near as reliable or durable as the Highlander, but want the REFINEMENT, QUIETNESS and COMFORT of the Telluride. And I keep my vehicle for at least 10 years!! Right now I can't make up my mind. EMOTIONALLY, I want the Telluride, but I also know the RATIONAL choice would be the Highlander. Sometimes, I feel, damn everything, you have one life to live. Get what you enjoy the most (Telluride). But then again, a car that might leave you stranded on the side of the road, is also not "giving you what you want." It is also a great feeling to know every time you put the key in your car it will start, as reliably as the sun that rises every morning!!

Sam, thank you for your candor. I test drove the 2020 Highlander XLE and was pleasantly surprised. The ride was smooth, quiet and very comfortable. I was able to get into a comfortable driving position quickly, which is interesting because I generally have to fiddle around with most cars - it took me less than a minute with the Highlander. I've driven both the Palisade and Telluride and as impressive as they are, the Highlander just feels a little more planted and sound - yes I know it's a tad smaller. Lastly, the fuel economy on the soon coming hybrid has no real competition in that segment and you can't beat Toyota quality. In the end, as one of the commenters mentioned, it's good to have options and this is a pretty crowded segment.

When comparing an Highlander XLE to a Telluride EX the EX has a 120 v outlet, heated steering wheel, navigation, wireless charging, and maybe some other features I missed. You'd think for a car to take the family camping Toyota would include a 120 v outlet in the trunk to plug stuff into. Plus, considering how cold are winters are you'd think Toyota Canada would offer a heated steering wheel in all Highlander models. And considering EVERY car manufacture tracks EVERY way the car is driven they should all include navigation for free!

Your review made me consider the new highlander. Mostly because of Toyotas keeping their value and also because it’s nearly impossible to get a Telluride without mark up. What I would like to know is how lower trims compare between the two. For example, I would consider the S trim of Telly but would like to know if the Highlander comparable trim makes it worth going with a Toyota or Telly wins in lower trims.

Toyota has Toyota safety sense 2.0 standard( lane departure alert with steering assist/lane trace assist, auto high beams, dynamic radar cruise control, pre collision with pedestrian detection, and road sign assist) on every single trim level. So yes, you can get more safety features standard. If toyota had made it part of a package like kia/hyundai and other manufacturers, i'm sure they could've distributed money to other amenities like a heated steering wheel or heated seats on lower trim levels. Two different strategies.

Your review is fair and has good details. At the end of the day, I think the audience tend follow what they already have in their mind. My experience is that the minor differences that you see when both cars are brand new will be more obvious and widen after about 5 years. I keep all my cars way pass 10 years and give them to my relatives. Kia tends to show more small broken things here and there after 5 years which I don't see at Toyota until after 10 yrs and 150K miles. Then, I realized I would rather spend 3 or even 5 more grands upfront for a very good old car after 10 yrs than paying less at the beginning and then owning a headache (or, not having peace of mind) later. To sum up, all my cars for the last 7 years have been Toyotas for their reliability and quietness. Well, I still own a 2004 Acura MDX. It's 200,000 miles and still running like a dream and quiet.

Sam CarLegion I don’t get how the 3rd row is similar? Lots of reviews for 2020 Highlander say “snug leg room” and the inches don’t add up (isn’t telluride 7inches linger than Highlander? ) Thanks
