VW Up written review: www.cargurus.co.uk/research/V...
VW Up
Pros
Fun to drive around town
Competent out of town
GTI model is a great warm hatch
Cons
Watch out for neglected examples
Mechanically identical Skoda Citigo and Seat Mii are cheaper to buy
Basic infotainment system
Written review Suzuki Swift Sport: www.cargurus.co.uk/research/S...
Suzuki Swift Sport
Pros
Funky looks stand out from the crowd
Enjoyable to drive
Generously equipped, even at the bottom of the range
Cons
Surprisingly costly to insure
Interior quality is a weakness of pre-facelift cars
Not as much fun as a Ford Fiesta

I have a manual swift sport turbo. I have owned for about a year now and absolutely love driving it. I mainly do freeway driving to work and my fuel consumption is 5.6L/100km. Gets me about 550km to 600km on a full tank of fuel $45-$50 depending on fuel price at the time. The engine in the swift has plenty of torque for a small car makes over taking a breeze and very fun to drive. Servicing is extremely cheap and well we all know Suzuki is know for its reliability. I feel at ease knowing that I’m driving a reliable car and if something did go wrong I know it won’t cost me an arm and a leg to get fixed. I’m from Australia 🇦🇺

I have owned a Suzuki Swift Hybrid for about three months, it is a splendid small car, fast and very fun to drive, especially in the curves, it offers all the advantages of a small sports car equipped with all the options possible for a car of this category I start on 0-100, it corresponds to about 7.5 seconds, the value declared by Suzuky is very low and does not correspond to reality ... I recommend it to everyone, I like the Volkswagen Up, but I consider the Swift undoubtedly a ' car much more complete from every point of view ... Congratulations pet the review! 👋

A 2 year old non-hybrid Swift Sports can be had for £11,500+, so a bargain second hand and the non-hybrid had 140bhp. The UP GTI looks like it holds it's value better, but the Swift Sport looks like a better buy used, especially when you take into account the kit you get with the Swift Sport, lane departure warning, apple car play, sat nav, auto dipping full beams, keyless entry, keyless start, reversing camera, front and rear electric windows, adaptive cruise control, auto emergency braking (or whatever it's called), and more. By the time the spec up similar cars they end up costing more than the Swift Sport. I do agree that at £21k the Swift Sport is far too expensive new, especially when you can pick up a Fiesta ST-Line 140BHP from a broker for under £17k (or £20k from a dealer).

Maybe. But for sure the reliable swift will have lower costs cause nothing wont fail or break. Still people want to say a vag car is better quality. Do we kuddle the interior all day or do we drive cars like they are built for. • @IwillBwaiting

For the test, the UP wins. For daily driving and other practical stuff, also for the not so juniors amongst us, the Swift wins. The price difference dictates the winner (UP) but let's face it, the Swifts competitor is most likely a Polo, not an UP. Then with some specs and a certain engine the price will be the same as the Swift and the Swift will be the winner. But bare in mind. Where does most of the money spent on either car, end up? Is it at your local factory, or in some place that noone can pronounce.

  • @machidaman

The Polo is a huge step up in quality and performance from the swift. The UP is a far better comparison. The Polo would be better compared to a Fiesta ST I would suggest. So the Swift Sport is the better car then. It's just that it's more expensive. But, considering how much extra kit you get with the car compared to the spartan equipped Up GTI. That's not so surprising. Yes, you can pay a bit more and get a Fiesta ST. But the ST will be in poverty spec. Spec up the ST to meet the Swift Sport on spec and you're looking at circa £25k for the ST. Also, some dealers are offering discount on the Swift Sport anyway, you could get one for under £19k.

I think the fact the Swift is a hybrid needs a bit more exploration, i.e. how did they compare in terms of economy? You get a lot more kit in the Swift, including some actual plastic on the tops of the doors, a reversing camera as standard, a screen you can actually see and more room inside. However, I'd have neither - there are plenty of examples of the non-hybrid floating about for around half the price, and you can still get a good example of the previous NA car for a few grand less still. If you want to rev the balls off a small car, you'd go for the latter. Of course, you could still grab one of the earlier Up! GTIs for as little as ten grand. Sticking to the review, however, that large difference in price is pretty hard to ignore.

When you take a car costing £21k and put it up against one that’s £5k cheaper and then say the other wins because it costs less, the whole review is a waste of time. The Swift has far more equipment as standard, the GTI is nothing but a glorified UP with a few options, VW did the minimum amount of modifications possible to warrant giving it the badge, and failed. Because to matcht he options on the swift in that UP you'd be adding 2-3k to it's price. Making the difference way smaller. For the difference you have a faster car (Suzuki numbers are way off from the real world), a bigger car and a more reliable japanese car.

Swift Sport is worth the extra. It will be far more reliable long term.

Vw wins because the SSS is massively overpriced. Suzuki have missed a trick with ridiculous pricing!

The Up looks boxy and ugly to me. Also it's very bare Bones with options

Why I would there fantastic solid cars tight as a drum but you need to get rid or dispose of them when at over 100000km or 60000m as they become problematic lots of components begin to fail. They turn into money pits as they age

So basically this test was to figure out which is the cheapest? What a pointless video as we all know that the up gti is cheapest 😂😂😂 If I had a choice I’d go for the faster model which is the Swift Sport.

The non hybrid version swift sport shpuld do 8.0 second but various test give it a 7.2 to 7.6 score for 0-100. You are still right about the power but for a few hundred it has 160 to 180hp just like al the sportiest 1.4 turbos. And then it would be howy many seconds to 100...... . And the swift sport outcorners a lot of cars. It easy do drive it fast.

There are many people throwing on 300-400 dollar tunes on that swift getting it to 170-190 horses. Easily breaking that 7second you're talking about

wtf garbage swift you guys getting over there? talk about being crapped on by manufacturers! The Swift Sport here in Aus is a 1.4 turbo (none of this hybrid garbage) and it's 0-100 (or 0-60mph) time is close to 7 seconds. Talk about being crippled!
