The 2020 Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid is Porsche's most powerful SUV, and also its heaviest. It makes 670 HP from a twin-turbo 4.0L V8 mated to a very trick plug-in hybrid system which can drive in Pure EV, combined hybrid, Pure Gasoline, or Charge mode. Even at 5,700 lbs, the Cayenne TSEH will do 0-60 in under four seconds and top out at 183 mph!
Porsche provided airfare to Germany (for something else), hotel, and several meals, as well as the vehicle, insurance, and very little gas for this review.

Drove a Panamera 4 E-Hybrid about 350 kms last week. The brain of this car is a huge part of its appeal. It's simply awesome to have a car with such different personalities. You can have fun on a windy road in sport plus and drive efficiently on the highway and in the cities in Hybrid or E-power.
I’m really loving the new interiors on these Porsche’s

I wonder if you could apply matte clearbra to the center console. I had a Panamera for a weekend and have never been so self conscious about my apparently greasy fingers.

But gloss plastic center consolle is the worst...used it for a while on a Panamera and it gets dirty as soon as you look it, and the touch feeling is not the best in terms of quality as well...
Big Porsche, tiny road, unfazed Matt
I can't wait to drive to Germany again, I love those roads, they are simply sublime
I love my 500 horsepower Porsche Cayenne Twin Turbo more than my Corvette C6. It is fun to drive it daily 😀

@@highoctane6854 yes they could of made them the same size especially since it uses regenerative breaking. It is traditional for the front to be larger than the rear. That might have been a design highlight or some sort of cost cutting. I might be overthinking it also.

@@highoctane6854 nope. That's misinformation. Front brakes are oversized for a reason. To make the rears underperform. You will actually have handling issues by making them the same size because the rear can lock up and cause you to lose control and slide. There is is a reason why most front engine race cars have oversized fronts. One because they front does most of the work, and two, because what I stated above.
Great to see Matt driving on german back roads instead of american canyons this time :-)
First time in over a decade of using youtube that I've ordered something based on an in video ad. These shoes had better be good >.>

Considering that Porsche always understates their performance figures and they list the Cayenne Turbo as having a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds and several independent tests have returned times of 3.2 seconds I think it’s safe to say that the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid with a stayed time of 3.6 seconds 0-60, will be at or below the 3.2 second 0-60 time of the normal Cayenne Turbo. I won’t be surprised one bit if we see 0-60 times of 3.0 seconds flat.
I'm driving a 745e right now. It has a charge mode too!

All BMW hybrids have that (Save -mode). It's even on my f30 330e.
The Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in has an engine which charges the battery while connected/disconnected from the wheels. And most of the time the engine is disconnected when not at highway speeds.
the Honda Insight will use its gas engine to charge the battery. The powertrain in the Insight allows it to run un full EV mode, with the gas engine either fully off, charging the battery, or kicking in when under hard acceleration
That’s one hell of a name. And when was it decided that coupe literally means nothing lol?

11:50 Matt, but you can tow with the Panamera - just not with the Turbo S E-Hybrid for whatever reason. In Europe the regular Panamera are rated for 2200 kg towing capacity vs 3500 kg (3000 kg with hybrid) with the Cayenne/Cayenne Coupé.
Great machine, but man $183k base here in Ontario, Canada + 13% tax is steep. Unfortunate that a performance hybrid is not something attainable for most of the population.
Deffinition of Hybrid is car that saves fuel by having a battery and charging it every time it has eccesive energy, like braking or engine idleing. Plug in is a hybrid that has a bigger battery and a pkug, so it can take commute while not using fuel.
Want to cop one of the weekender bags so bad....just cant afford it at the moment.
Thumbs up to the curio Daihatsu Midget at 8:42. You don't see those often!
I have never driven a Porsche, but I have to say that Cayenne hustles! You seem to give it a bit of a knock on the trans but it seems to up and down shift quick enough in the video. I think the not hybrid trim comes with the 2.9 turbo six and the pdk dual clutch.
I like this car
BTW, on the straight parts of the streets, the white/black poles are 50metres/55yards apart, just for speed reference
I don’t think the Cayenne needs the PDK. It’s a performance SUV but I don’t think a person buying one is going to be looking for all out lap times and quickest shifts ever.

He’s impressed cuz this hybrid can charge back the electric range of the vehicle. Other plug in hybrids don’t do that, once the electric range is used up, other plug in hybrids will operate like a normal hybrid and not be able to recharge back the electric range unless u plug it into the wall.
All of the VAG hybrids have the engine charge battery mode: see VW GTEs, Audi Etrons, etc.
Cool
Does anyone know what the type of lenses matt has on his shades?
The Volvo XC90 T8 PHEV has a setting to use the gas motor to charge the battery while driving. However the I4 idles super loud at a stop... pretty much unbearable so best to use it on the freeway.

I believe that the BMW i3 can use the gas engine to charge the battery, but this may only be an option in Europe. You may have to code the car to allow this in the US.

Weight 5,700 lbs, 670 HP, 0-60 in 3.2. Great, but there's a problem. How fast do tires wear out on a 5,700 lb car cornering at high speed? I'm guessing tires last maybe 15,000-20,000 miles?
When will it be Taycan?
Cant imagine another fast Cayenne Coupe coming the other way on that road...🙈
Can we have Macan in Hybrid please?

The bmw hybrids and mercedes have the E- charge feature..
Vw golf gte can charge while moving. Not very useful, If you arrive home with any charge in the battery thats wasted fuel
Most plug-in hybrids function that way.
Pretty much any hybrid recharges battery when you stop

What's the prices
so true on PDK. drove it last June ever since i’m a a porsche guy 😂
Hit the link in the description... oops...
Toyota, Lexus have been doing that for years, charging the battery while moving. It's just they didn't have range, because they were not plug in...
I guess he saw from far 1.50 at the gasstation, said well thats cheap, but noticed than it is the price per Liter, so short trip and no refulling.
So I assume this is the same unit as the new RS6 will be....
That is sure not my 160k cup of tea. My cayenne turbo was a shattered dream. Wish I woulda gone with the 911 instead of the compromise.
I was hoping the angry german lady would be in the video
Uhh... How did hybrids work before plug in? They "charged themselves" Nothing new on that front, but a good looking vehicle it has become. IMO of course.
@TheSmokingTire
4 жыл бұрын
dwarf365 hybrids before plug in had a zero mile EV only range. You can take this out with a zero range, and use the engine to charge the battery while driving so you can then have a 30km full EV range. No other hybrid can do that.

My Lexus RX 450h charges while you drive/brake. It switches back & forth between engine & electric as needed & you never plug it in. It’s no match for the Cayenne, for sure.

All hybrids cars have the gas engine charge the battery..that's kind of the whole point
