2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S | Behind the Wheel | Edmunds

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Manager of Feature Content Carlos Lago tests the new 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S. Though it may not look all that different, this is indeed the next generation of Porsche's iconic sports car. What's new? It's slightly bigger, heavier, quicker and pricier. In this video, Carlos walks through the most significant changes inside and out. Later, he hops behind the wheel to see if this new version delivers the 911 driving experience that we adore.
Watch the 2020 Porsche 911Carrera S battle the 2019 BMW 8 Series (M850i):
• 2020 Porsche 911 vs. 2...
Q: What kind of engine and transmission does the Porsche 911 Carrera S have?
A: The 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S has a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six and an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Q: How much does the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S cost?
A: The 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S starts at $114,550, including destination. Pricing for the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4S model begins at $121,850.
Q: How fast is the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S?
A: Porsche says the new 911 reaches 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and clears the quarter-mile in 11.7 seconds for rear-wheel-drive models. Considering that the previous-generation 911 was quicker than that in our testing, we expect even better numbers when we get our hands on this 911 for a full test.
Q: What are the 2020 Porsche 911's main competitors?
A: There are quite a few options at this price. If you'd like a more comfort-oriented luxury coupe, consider the Lexus LC 500. For something along the same performance lines as the 911, there's the Audi R8 and the Mercedes-AMG GT.

Forget about the petty look of the shifter. Fact is, this is THE BEST dual-clutch automatic transmission on Planet Earth! Stop the pettiness already. Porsche cars have always been controversial since the 356; they’re always doing things differently. That’s what helps make them great. I’ve ordered a Guards Red 992 which is scheduled to be in Kansas City September 1st. I guarantee I’ll get used to that shifter, post haste. FWIW, I just traded an 2016 Mercedes S550, and the shifter there is a tiny stalk on the right side of the steering wheel. Smaller than the turn signal, but boy...that thing works well also.

You're not crazy if you are referring to the interior design. the interior on a base cayman/boxster is very similar to the interior on a loaded Turbo S … the styling inside isn't meant to "wow" you or be the focal point, or at least I hope not. My wife was pretty disappointed when I had her peek inside a $200k USD Turbo S. They're quite plain but they are well constructed with good materials. For their price, Mazda actually does make a good interior, haha. If you think the driving experience is the same as a Mazda anything, then yeah, you probably need to get a spinal tap bc I think you're pretty sick in the head. ;)

haha. okay that means I need to go see my neurologist..haha. but guess what? I met so many people who never liked the 911. I meant the driving experience, not the interior. I may get the new Macan S though! @@evanescent0311

Disagree on your cupholder comments. It was placed perfect and easy to reach in the 991, sad to see it go.

vuggie123 The two new cup holders are deeper, more solid and rigid, and work perfectly. The console cup can be lifted out and another part slides into the void for carrying change, cell phone, etc.

just for selecting R or D , with a Neutral in between. When rolling, Normal or Sport or Sport Plus are on the round selector on right side of the steering wheel. More innovation!

Not sure why so many complain about the shifter, it’s an automatic, you’ll barely be touching it anyway. Plus now it doesn’t block the view of the center console like the last gen did.

@@LegendInThaMakin the gear shifter looks sissy the first thing you drive a car is to use the gear shifter it's the soul for human to control the car and it helps in/out corners besides the paddles that's why so many people complains about it actually i think it's also a very important decoration for the interior too...

Aasa C it’s an automatic, it’s already sissy. Don’t see how the shape of the gear shifter means anything. You’ll mostly be using the paddles anyway. People just look for the littlest things to cry about.

Edward Snowden I never said I hated autos. God you auto apologists are so sensitive. All I said was I don’t see how it matters what the gear lever for an automatic is shaped as seeing as you rarely touch it anyway. That is literally my only point. The only Porsche pdk shifter blocked the view of the console. None of you internet racers have ever been in a high end Porsche anyway so I don’t even expect y’all to know that. They made the 992 shifter smaller for a reason.

The key on the left is only on left hand drive cars. All right hand drive cars have the key in the right. You’d be accurate if you said the key is always on the opposite side to the gearshifter.

The key is always on the door side which is pretty normal on right hand drive cars but abnormal on left hand drive cars.

@@farzana6676 In the old days during porsche's Le Mans racing program, they strategically placed the keys on the left because when the race starts (and drivers had to run to their cars, jump inside and switch the car on), they could save a second or two by switching the engine on with the left hand and slotting the gear lever in place with their right hand at the same time instead of transitioning.
