Im messing with a l82 conversion now. From what ive seen the l82 is Active fuel management and the l84 is dynamic fuel management as well as flex fuel vs non flex respectively. Good info here and hats off for digging into these newer LT motors.

I have three L8t 6.6 liters. It has the same block architectural design just in an Iron block.

I have a 2019 L82, The DOD is only 4 cylinders but the bosses are on all 8 (Only 4 are machined and have the solenoid. I sold the E90 and harness and rewired a harness and am using a E92.

That oil pan looks a lot better to use for clearance

Also L8t comes with or without power steering and two altenators.

I wish I knew if I could use the new style oil pan in my 2017 Sierra. The dipstick placement is much better. I could reach that one

I thought the L83 had a cylinder wash issue causing failures (afm related im sure) but i know the tuning is completely different on the L84 (not sure L82) mainly due to the 8-speed but it feels more aggressive timing or throttle managment. Not sure the fine details with out spending the money to unlock the E90. Which i might do later on after warranty is up. Be interesting to see if the harness works, i got a GMT800 that i still hanging on too & would love to swap its LM7 out for one.

Is this out of a Silverado? Trying to find the part number for those ac refrigerant hoses. Those seem like they might work better than the ones on my L86. So I was going to see if they would fit my L86 ac compressor

Did we ever find out if the ECU and harness from the L83 would work? I got what I was supposed to be an L83 but when I got home find out it's an L84 🤦. Need it to slide into my 2017 Silverado. Obviously the DFM/AFM is slightly different but that garbage is being disabled regardless. I have the wiring harnesses for both engines. Currently debating selling this L84 and going back on the hunt for a L83

Im guessing this is the same controller as the new 3.0 Duramax. Im just waiting for someone to do one of those swaps.

Love your videos but I will argue about DOD... my 2017 Silverado 5.3 crew z71 has gotten as good as 8.3 L per 100 kms which is 28.5 mpg ...

The block casting certainly looks way cleaner. Looks like they used sand cast instead of a gravel cast mold. Also like the vac pump was deleted. The new dod is a bit crazy. I wonder if the l82 is mechanically the same as the 83

Bro, L82 has AFM (4v mod), L84 has DFM(can run on 1cylinder). Different controllers. Both to my knowledge cannot run e85 on stock tune. Yes electric vacuum booster.

Thats part of the game. You might buy a dud or be lucky. The other way is to pull it yourself or pay for a turn key which will cost around 15000 and your not even close to actually getting it to fit in the car.

So has anyone worked out a vacuum pump solution for the 14-18 trucks? I am needing a new short block in my sierra and id like to snag one of these cheap that are floating around

Why wouldn’t you just buy an L83 or L86 and slap it in? If you wanna keep using the shit vacuum pump (that you should have already deleted) why the hell would you even look at a block that isn’t compatible with it lol

If you want to run without a vac pump it’s really simple. Disable AFM through a tuner or other disabling device (intake WILL NOT make enough vac to run brakes if AFM is not turned off) Now You have about 3 options to get vacuum to the booster. 1 drill and tap a spot in the intake behind the throttle body and add a 3/8 hose barb. 2 you can get rid of PCV system and vent your crankcase to atmosphere or a catch can and use the PCV suction as a source. 3 you can disable the EVAP system and then drill and tap ICT billet block off for a hose barb and use that as a source. There may be others but these are what I have found. Mine personally is tied to the PCV suction and my crankcase is vented to atmosphere through valve cover breathers instead of using the PCV system like a pre 1987 engine
