2020 MINI JOHN COOPER WORKS GP SPIED TESTING AT THE NÜRBURGRING

During the Industry Pool at the Nürburgring I have filmed the 2020 MINI John Cooper Works GP.
As we've seen from a handful of teaser images and spy photos of early test mules, Mini is working on the most hardcore road car it has ever produced. It will be called the Mini John Cooper Works GP, a name that has previously been reserved for the company's most powerful and lightweight models. Camouflaged prototypes have given us a good indication of what the car will look like but this latest spotting wears very minimal disguise, giving us our best look yet at the car in all its hardcore hot hatch glory. Just look at those insane wheel arches.
In addition to the unique wheel arches, the GP will be equipped with larger wheels to fill those massive flares, an enormous rear spoiler, a deeper front spoiler, larger brakes, and a rear-seat delete.
Only 3,000 units are planned with a turbocharged four-cylinder rumored to put out around 300 horsepower. This would likely be the same engine found in the BMW X2 M35i, which produces 302 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque going out through an eight-speed automatic.
Since the X2 and the Mini Cooper ride on the same platform, we wouldn't be surprised if they also shared a drivetrain. What remains to be seen is whether the Mini will come with front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive and if it will be available with a manual transmission. In the US, the X2 is only available with xDrive and an automatic but offering a manual has always been a staple of the Mini brand. The John Cooper Works GP is expected to debut later in 2019 with deliveries beginning sometime in 2020.

I am on the waiting list for one of these. Hope the final production car is closer to the concept car than the one I see in this video. The wheel flares on the concept make the car unique in appearance. This one just looks like a regular street car and the wheel flares look like they were tacked on rather than being an integral part of the design.

I have a 2006 that is in "EP" emergency program and the transmission starts shifting hard after it warms up. Anyone with advise ?

If it's not available with a manual gearbox I won't be buying it. The trouble now with designers is that they come from the xbox generation and think that all cars need flappy paddels. NO THET DON'T!

I'm sure there will be a manual, but you use an automatic to set lap times.

@@JohnTheRecoilJunkie Most people are not using these for "lap times" -- and no, there will not be a manual with this engine. Mini will be loosing their base with this.

Hahah really nice! I wouldn’t put the GP Stuff on my Cooper S but the fact that they’re bringing it like that as stock is phenomenal! But our Cooper S‘s still Sound better and louder 🤓😏😏👍🏼

I was just about to reserve and then I read something horrible... 8 speed automatic... I almost vomited in my mouth. If this was a manual I would gladly trade in my STI for it.
I like it, looks quick....only thing is the the red one looks like it also has a coke habit I'd have to fuel as well @4:53

If that's the 2020 GP, then I'll keep my 2019 JCW Coupe and give the GP a run for it's money! I however will take the rear spoiler.

Not bad but concept looked a lot better especially front bumper, looks exactly like JCW.. And mirrors different, same with back diffuser. Still sweet tho.

Its fwd but if it did come awd or the make a all 4 model it would definitely be a beast and beat the Audi rs3, amg a45, focus Rs and gold r with ease.

Lol It's not just about BHP. They've removed the rear seats, AWD, added lots of aero dynamics to the body & tuned the engine. :)

Boring -- no shifting. Might as well just watch a video or play with remote control car. And for those who think it's all about power, so many better choices than this. Don't know who is in charge of Mini -- but I'm thinking they are way overpaid not to know what made Mini desired.
