2020 MG ZS 1.0 TGI Exclusive Automatic Walkaround - Lloyd Vehicle Consulting

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A few months after I filmed the facelifted 2020 MG ZS 1.5 Exclusive Manual ( • 2020 MG ZS 1.5 Exclusi... ) at Summit Garage in Dudley, I was offered the chance to film the automatic version by a long-standing channel viewer!
Thanks again to Stephen and Bev for the chance to film this one month old 2020 MG ZS 1.0 TGI Exclusive Automatic with just 129 miles on the clock! It was picked up from Summit Garage two days before filming. Be prepared for keyless entry, mudflaps, a boot liner, a proper space saver spare tyre, an automatic handbrake, more Battersea Blue paintwork, Morris the Teddy Bear and his brother and properly labelled cupholders. Nothing untoward, then!

    Nice to see another one, thank you for the shout out, fantastic machine, the facelift has really improved the car all round, interior and exterior - MG are now evolving there design language, and the new ZS looks more unique.

    Yes, absolutely! The Planet Auto review was really good, I am looking forward to driving one myself. With this powertrain, it answers my main concern I had with the manual car, other than that, it is pretty strong in virtually every key area.

    Yes, I had a pre-facelift one of those on loan from MG Motor UK last year, and we were able to do a comprehensive episode on Tweed Jacket Reviews with it (it will be on the Tweed Jacket Reviews playlist). Same engine and gearbox was fitted, and I absolutely loved it.

    What a shame that this car doesn't have a rear interior light and seatbelt height adjustment as everywhere else it is very well equipped and with such a good warranty. As you pointed out Joseph the buttons for the boot and fuel filler could also be better positioned, but overall if you are in the market for one of these types of vehicle then surely an MG ZS must be worth considering.

    Yes, they have made surprising omissions in one or two areas, whereas they generally have absolutely loaded this car with equipment far beyond what is expected in others at this price point. Very spacious, good powertrain and with an excellent warranty, we came close to buying one ourselves. It has to be one of the most competitive for this sort of money.

    Great walk around! This is a surprisingly well done facelift, I think the styling tweaks work really well and the interior is excellent. Amazing value for such a well equipped and practical car, and the interior quality is very good. Last weekend I had a look around the VW ID3 and interior touchpoint quality is dire. I have noticed a few magazines which jump on any perceived touchpoint quality cost cutting in Asian and budget brands either down play or rationalise dire interior quality in VW models, I wonder why...... I still find it odd they don't use this power train in the MG3, the 3 has an excellent chassis set up and is a good looking and useful super mini, this engine would make it a lot more likely to win sales from Ford, Vauxhall, Skoda et al I think.

    Well, with MG sales up 170% in September 2020 compared with September 2019, it is not hard to see what the public have decided that many would prefer one of these over the more conventional brands. Very good facelift styling, very practical and a good quality interior for the price. It's not as high quality as an Audi, but then it costs much, much less, and it has a better warranty too. Don't know why the press do that, I have heard about the iD3 interior myself, and although I have seen one in the metal, I didn't get to look inside at the time.

    @@lloydvehicleconsulting I have noticed more HS and ZS models on the roads, I read somewhere once that there needs to be a certain number of cars on the road before you see them, MG seems to be getting that mass. I think the bridge MG had to cross was getting people into showrooms as once people open their minds the cars will sell themselves. Great value, well made cars with a great warranty. And they have made EVs affordable. I had a look at the 5EV and although the styling isn't to my taste it offers remarkable value for such a practical family car with a good range. It's a Focus sized estate which undercuts super mini EVs from other manufacturers and in a few cases offers better range too. And its interior is way better than the ID3.

    @@johnbradshaw5900 , yes we will be filming the MG5 EV soon if restrictions don't get any tighter... MG has now reached that critical mass of being far more common than before, and rightly so. They are pushing the electric cars at the moment, and with such massively increased sales of EVs in general, who can blame them? The warranty is only beaten by Kia and SsangYong, and I think the average MG customer is unlikely to do more than 80,000 miles in the first seven years anyway. A very, very impressive line up.

    I really like the interior of this car. Especially the digitalness ( a word I may have just made up) of the dash. The two new models, would one of them be the HS PHEV by any chance. Or would that be a spoiler? 🙂

    I am so pleased that the MG brand is doing well now. This is a great colour ,and the facelift really works. Shame about that rear courtesy light, its suprisingly annoying as I found out on my Fabia estate. If they had the light in the centre it would mostly solve the issue. Does the EV also miss out on the light?

  • @lloydvehicleconsulting

    @lloydvehicleconsulting

    Yes, it's easy to see why they are so popular. The cars just keep improving inside and out. Yes, same situation in a ZS EV, no courtesy light in the back. Mr Jackson fitted his own, though, as you may have seen in his ownership review. I will check to see if a Mark III Fabia Estate has one, as I don't remember.
