2020 Lexus GX460 | Suited for World's End

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We review the new 2020 Lexus GX 460 an ancient yet relevant truck/suv that has been around for a long time. To understand why this exists in the modern age, we dig a bit deeper to understand why it still exists and the buyers who covet them. While it makes sense to look at the used market, given the current economy the GX may be one of the few trucks that would hold its value. There are other SUVs like the Kia Telluride, Mazda CX9, Toyota Highlander, Dodge Durango and Ford Explorer but this is a different beast.

I have a GX i drive for work. I drive ~1000 miles every single week and have done it for years. It has 470,000 and has been in the shop exactly 1 time when I hit a deer at 50 mph. Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, has ever broken.

He's so right too. I guess I never thought about having a simple button instead of going through screen after screen to do something that should be easy. I drive an old RX which has an interior console very similar to this and it is infact much easier to use than the new BMWs my parents like. BMWs are overengineered (in the wrong ways) pieces of crap though.

I absolutely love this thing. It's perfect as far as I'm concerned. Also, funny you mention going to the grave with it. My neighbor bought a Land Cruiser Prado in the late 1990s and he died a couple of months ago but his wife and daughter still drive the thing. It's almost 25 years old at this point and it didn't have an easy life either because they own a lumber company and it spent its life on forest roads. Imagine something so indestructible that you abuse it nearly a quarter of a century and you die before it dies. The cockroach of vehicles.

After 17 years and 200k miles, my "tank in a tuxedo" was worth every penny. Kept up with all the Lexus-recommended service and she never failed me - can't praise this chariot enough! Sure-footed on ice, snow, wet roads, and even on the beach when other trucks got stuck in the sand. Awaiting delivery of my 2022 Lexus GX460 - I'm confident I can look forward to another long & dependable life with the best SUV in its class. Oh - and I call the incredible visibility inside the GX the "greenhouse view" - virtually non-existent blindspots. Thanks for a great video review!

Here in Colombia, just recently Toyota started selling their lesser models such as the Corolla. As a brand it is mainly known for the Prado lineup, for this it is perceived as a luxury brand, and it sells these luxury trucks as hot bread. But most of the prestige that comes from having a modern Prado or a Lexus GX or LX is precisely because they are the same vehicle as a 20-year-old one. They are bulletproof and are extremely capable of road. On many places of the country, those are the 2 most important features. As of today in cities you can found swarms of modern Prados that retail for over $85k and on rural areas most of the trucks you find are 90’s, 80’s,70’s and even 60’s Land cruisers fully working and carrying 3 times their cargo capacity. They are so bullet proof they have embedded themselves on culture. Outselling by a mile premium German brands, while having even more expensive models.

I have a 2008 GX470, so I usually receive a GX460 when I take mine for service. I can feel the improvements in chassis tuning and drive quality in this vehicle over the older generation. Even it is still an old vehicle, there is something about it I really love. It is graceful, subtle, simple, but most importantly, it gets the job done in the most drama free way. Sometimes a drama free life is a good thing. I highly recommend a GX460 even though I wish they would have improved the engine performance and gas consumption on this more.

The BOFs - Fortuner, Prado, 4Runner, Land Cruiser, GX and the LX are the cars I don't wish die out. Please keep buying them, people. I know I would sometime in the future.

thanks for the great review. I am researching this vehicle and am very happy that I found your channel. I had many concerns regarding the age of the technology, but now I understand why it is what it is.

I recently had a rental Yukon and that OnStar made not even think about buying the car. I am now the proud owner of a 2016 GX460 and loving it. :)

quality engineering that will last longer than you want. i'm still driving my 2005 GX. i paid $50k and it was worth the money. it has been 100% reliable, and fun. but now 15 years later it's time for something new. sadly, everything that used to come standard is now an option, and to get this vehicle fully loaded costs way more that i believe is reasonable. i'm buying a subaru forester touring for under $40k. i'll keep the lexus though. my daughter was a baby when i got it and now it's her turn to drive it.

My best Lexus GX460 review so far. I just love the soundtrack at the beginning too.

Never seen two more laid back guys speak in a video than these two guys (unlike Scotty Kilmer and the Doug guy) and I still like it.They don't move their hands or even smile, but they transmit the necessary info on the Lexus GX. I like it.

I have a heavily modded GX 470 and love it. Wish I had that rear end from the 460 in mine with a factory locker.

Where I'm from this is the Trophy-wife-mobile for those who care about reliability (talking about you, Land Rover people).

Lol. Just don't tell her she might be a little outdated, but it's the durability that counts.

The respect I have for Land Rover people is not that they can afford the car, but they have the time and money to blow just to keep it on the road

I think of SUV's as soccer mom vehicles. Which is why I would never buy one. I'd be embarrassed to be seen in one. Give it time, and I think SUV's will become "uncool," just like station wagons and minivans became uncool. I view a BMW X5 as a trophy-wife-mobile, but I suppose this Lexus could fit that description as well.

It may be an old design, but its simplicity in operation makes it the most advanced Lexus you can buy.
