2020 Kites Over Lake Michigan - Kite Festival

This is the 15th annual Kites Over Lake Michigan, founded by Chow Chong, owner of Unique Flying objects: uniqueflyingobjects.com/. This year we flew in the country at Two Rivers High School due to high lake levels. Enjoyed spending time with the Wisconsin Kiters and impressive kiters from across the Midwest.
On day one, you'll see Bob Turicik and I, with the help of fellow kiter, Charlie Mazzulla, flew our 850 square-foot Harley Davidson flow form made by Columbian kiter maker, Huber Orlando Monsalve Alvarez. Wind gusts were in the mid-20s on day one and the mid 30s on day two.
Thank you to Chow, the Two Rivers community and sponsors for the opportunity to participate in this year's event.
Some of the kiters who were there: Aaron King, David Piotrowski, LeAnn DeBruin Lauer, Ed and Gloria Grys, Steve Nicol, Bob Turicik, Bob Klopke, Bill Miller, Susan Schroeder Towner, Charlie and Pam Mazzulla, Kenny Cracraft, Christi Mercier Vincevineus, Mark and Connie Ledvina, Faith Enneper Zittlow, Johnathan Enneper, Dahl Sortore-Enneper, Russ Janiszewski, Martin and Debbie Maciejewski, Tim Feld, George Jacobsen, Barbara Freeberg Meyer, Mark Brandt, Chow Chong, Larry Day, Devin Cobleigh- Morrison, Kathy Brinnehl, Jared Smith, Mary Pat McManmon, Chris Dodson, Jeanne Herrera, Dale and Pam Bowden, big Mike Gee from North Dakota, Darryl Waters and many others.

Yes Glenn, the winds were rock'n on both days. Yes, invited to fly. Fellow Wisconsin Kiter Bob Turicik and I went in on the 850 square foot Harley Davidson flow form in March. First time flying it on day one before the winds increased. Also flew my 65 sqm Trilobite, Jellyfish, and HQ Flowform 7.0. You'll see the Sutton 252 flying in the evening after day one in an upcoming video. Currently serving as president of the Wisconsin Kiters Club. We have a passionate core group of members who come out for every fest.

@@MichaelKSherman You have accomplished much in a short time. It's a testament to your focus and I initiative. Be reminded that the longer you lead an organization, the more correct you believe your opinion is. Conversely, doing things by committee tends to be a time wasting stalling tactic. My friendly advice is to be certain of your facts and guide gently. Oh, killer kite, yes.

@@PanyingPilot That's some wise advice. Helps to have the perspective of those who've been in and/or led the club over the years. Hopefully we'll have normal event-filled year soon. Would like that experience.

Yes. The event turned out well Jim. Yes, I brought my kites down after a while. No sense chancing it, but they performed well.

Thank you Michael for a visual spectacle of kites. Only kite flyers would know the work that goes into such an event. It looked to be a great success and enjoyed by many. Was day two mostly intended for kite flyers and day 1 was a public day ? I saw your White Trilobite make contact with someones Pilot kite. No harm done.

You bet Carl. Actually, both days were open to the public. Just about every weather forecast called for thunderstorms. That and the pandemic and the move away from the beach likely played a role.

The beauty is that we each have a POV. Combined, a more complete picture emerges, to the great pleasure of the audience.
