This BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe looks like a million bucks, but thankfully costs only barely a tenth of that price.

To make the Gran Coupe, BMW stretched the 2-door 8 Series Coupe by nine inches, to a full length of over 200. Include the wing mirrors, and it’s over 7 feet wide. It weighs 4,200 pounds but stands at barely 4 and a half feet tall. Still, this is an enormous car, and unless you’re cruising the interstate, you’ll likely be aware of that at all times.
The BMW 7 Series made waves with a huge kidney grille up front, and it looks like BMW will be doubling down on that bet with the upcoming 4 Series. However, this grille stretches wide, but not tall. The vertical slats within the kidneys have a nice matte silver finish, and the wide LED headlights keep the front end feeling well balanced.
Interior materials are first-rate: Leather and metal, that’s about it. The iDrive controller and HVAC vents are a nice knurled metal, too. The steering wheel is thick and comfortable, and the armrests are soft-and heated, too. Likewise, the seats a firm but hold up well after hours of driving, and they’ve got plenty of adjustments including extendable thigh cushions.
Unlike Mercedes, with its long, connected driver and infotainment displays, BMW’s gone with two separate units. The center stack gets topped with a 10.25-inch display, controlled either by the iDrive rotary dial, touchscreen inputs, or voice commands.
Under the hood of the 840i trim lives a turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine making 335 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque. Pony up for an M850i Gran Coupe and you’ll get a twin-turbo V8 with 523 horsepower, or go full bore for the M8 Gran Coupe, which delivers 600. 617 if you get the M8 Competition.
The BMW 840i Gran Coupe starts at $84,900. That’s more than the Audi S7, way more than a base Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, and just shy of the base Porsche Panamera. On the other hand, it’s $1,550 less than a 7 Series, and $3,000 less than the stunning but impractical 8 Series coupe.

20 months ago, and replaced my 640d GC with a 840i GC, with 10 optional extras. My best car to date.
The “liftback” or hatchback doesn't get you more cargo space. It just gets you a bigger opening, and less structural rigidity.
This car is gorgeous
Great review and great car, thanks.
Great great review! Love the looks of this car. Incredibly intimidating exterior. Thanks for a great way to spend 9 minutes of my day. Happy subscriber here!

Glad you enjoyed it!
Very good review, gives an excellent impression of the car. Especially convincing the exterior shots, you manage to really make its beauty shine. Mine comes in July ... :)
I own this car and absolutely love it! Sexy ass car, stylish to the max and I wouldn't trade it for any other car; period! If you're looking in this price range you must test drive this model. Well if you're lame you'll drive one of the vehicles suggested in the comments below.
I have ordered 4 door in white
Liftback on a long swooping body shape like that would cause huge loss of structural rigidity / scuttle shake etc and the added bracing / reinforcements just add weight. It's far better to go with a saloon style trunk for this reason.
ya have to love kick backs.
Ranked at the top and now their trading in the low 50k's this will be my next daily for the family shuttle!
As the owner of a carbonblack `23 850i GC, I concur.
He spoke, spoke, spoke and spoke little more but did not inform the capacity of the trunk, something that is essential in a sedan.
The hood is so long
Just♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🇬🇧
Not sure what the point of this vehicle is. I bet they don’t sell many, I hardly ever see a 8 series anywhere.
How can you make a review and not clean the car before?
Honestly I'd just go with the M5 Comp for a couple grand more than the as tested price here nd get more room and way better performance. I don't car for the 8 series' "Godzilla stepped on my car" styling.. That said, I really enjoyed this review. I may not agree with your conclusion, but appreciated the thorough break down of the car. Well done.
so how tall re really??..yes im a smart ass and i really want to know how tall you are...???
Looks great but I prefer the Audi S7 a little more.
Phew...they should focus on this an scrap the BMW mustang
Who’s the new hottie reviewer?!
