2020 BENELLI 400 IMPERIALE | REVIEW
Who can make and sell a 400 for less than 4k in the UK?
Benelli can do a pretty good job of that and they have now landed in the UK.
Don't be fooled the build quality of this bike is pretty good. Don't miss this!
The Benelli Imperiale is a classic-style motorcycle manufactured by Benelli, an Italian motorcycle brand. Here are some key features and information about the Benelli Imperiale:
1. Design: The Benelli Imperiale embodies a classic retro design inspired by the motorcycles of the 1950s and 1960s. It features a teardrop-shaped fuel tank with chrome accents, a single round headlight, a large comfortable seat, and spoked wheels. The overall design reflects a vintage aesthetic combined with modern touches.
2. Engine: The Benelli Imperiale is powered by a 374cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. This engine configuration provides a balance of power and efficiency suitable for city commuting and leisurely cruising. The engine delivers smooth power delivery and is designed to provide a relaxed riding experience.
3. Performance: The Imperiale's engine produces modest power and torque figures, emphasizing a comfortable and laid-back riding style. It is designed to offer a smooth and predictable performance, making it suitable for riders who prioritize a relaxed and easygoing riding experience.
4. Suspension and Brakes: The Imperiale is equipped with telescopic forks at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear, providing a comfortable and controlled ride over varying road conditions. In terms of braking, it typically features a single disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear, providing sufficient stopping power for everyday riding.
5. Features: While the Benelli Imperiale has a classic design, it includes some modern features. These may include an analog instrument cluster with a digital display, LED lighting for improved visibility, and an electric starter for convenience. Additionally, some models may have optional accessories like luggage racks or windshields for touring purposes.
6. Availability: The Benelli Imperiale is available in different markets around the world, including Europe, Asia, and other regions. However, availability and specifications may vary depending on the specific market and the time of inquiry. It's always best to check with your local Benelli dealer or their official website for the most up-to-date information about the Benelli Imperiale models available in your area.
It's important to note that motorcycle models and specifications can change over time, so it's advisable to consult Benelli's official website or authorized dealers for the most accurate and current details about the Benelli Imperiale.
I give you the 2020 Benelli Imperiale 400

Great review, you have shed a great light on this bike, I have seen the imperiale at my local dealership and I must agree with your comments. Bang for buck and hitting all the marks for a classic modern vintage bike this motorcycle certainly is, I think the silver way colour scheme is also the best. The only thing is the flood marker said you were seven foot tall 😂

@@exeterrider well after seeing your piece I'm possibly going to buy the Benelli within next 10 days. I did look at the Enfield but what put me off, is the vibes which from past experience kills a motorcycle over time and the Benelli seem to handle a 60 to 70 cruise smoother than the Enfield also the price is on the button. All my machines are fairly large and ungainly. On these wonderfully under used unclassified roads around Lincolshire, the Benelli may be bliss.

  • @hiyadroogs

    @hiyadroogs

@@exeterrider During your review, you remarked upon the engine's smoothness & lack of vibration. You then said that it doesn't have the long stroke of the classic 500. Actually, it does. Exactly! Both engines share an identical 90 mm stroke. Interestingly, the RE 350, & 500 share the same stroke, & the 350 was always the sweeter engine because of its smaller bore. Apparently the 373 Benelli doesn't vibrate until 7,000 rpm. An Enfield would disintegrate if it could even reach that engine speed. So Benelli seems to have done a great job in getting the engine geometry spot on.

Well I decided on the Interceptor in the end. I could not get a test ride on the Imperiale locally, owner forum on Facebook seems to suggest they only get about 60 mph top speed although the speedo often says 85 mph. I sold my old 125 because 60 was just too slow for me on A roads which I have to use some times. Plus I could not find a rack for it which is a must for me. So I decided on the RE Interceptor which arrives tomorrow. Slightly sad because a really did like the look of this bike

@@exeterrider Great review! I've been looking for a "Classic Thumper" for a while now. Sadly, British classics and even 1990s onwards Royal Enfield bikes are a waste of money. At the price of a "Ruin" in the case of any one of those bikes, you can have a Benelli 400. I currently have a year old 502 TRK which has been completely reliable and performs like a bike of twice its price! I can not emphasise just how good Benelli has become of late. Regarding your comments on the rider footrests being seemingly flimsy. I think that you may have overlooked the fact that the rests are attached to a rubber mounted sub frame which is transversely mounted to the frame tubes under the engine. This is an anti vibration measure which accounts for the movement felt when applying pressure to the pegs. Best regards Mark Tarbutt.

  • @exeterrider

Hi Mark. Fair comment but no the footpeg support bars were made from about 12mm mild steel. It has a length of about 200mm from fixing to the start of the peg. If you were to stand on it then it will bend down - infact it even prevents you from standing up on the pegs while riding like you can do on nearly all motorcycles. A flaw on a bike that essentially is a well made machine. 👍🍻

But, honestly, if acceleration is your thing, you wouldn't be in the market for a 20 bhp long stroke slow revving air cooled single in the first place! The main reason for the excess weight, is that everything is metal, not plastic. It's a substantial machine. I like that personally, as I don't like plastic bits on bikes.

Made in China I believe ? - sorry but that really puts me off, after a year or two of ownership the punter will realise why they are cheap !!

Hi Glen, that's a fair comment and I would have agreed 15 years ago. Fact is the rest of the benelli range has a very good track record such as the bn 125, ( I know of a lady with zero issues on 14k miles) the 502range also has a good record and it's a proven engine, the tnt 125 also has a good record. I read also concerned in the beginning but after digging around I can't find people having many issues. Don't forget the BMW 850gs engines, and some ktm parts are also made in China. Fair comment but not much of a foundation. Thanks for your comment. I Respect it👍
