    For the future, designate one of the squeeze bags for your transfer case oil, fill it with atf.

    Hey there, just wondering about the Valvoline ATF you are using for transfer case. Do you think Valvoline ATF will be compatible with truck's power steering fluid. My search so far lead me to believe it is compatible, would you use Valvoline ATF on your power steering fluid?

  • @frontier_etc

    @frontier_etc

    Yes, power steering fluid is very often just ATF. you will be good to use Valvoline ATF for that.

    great video, have you changed the transmission oil yet, I can't find anything on KZread, and the Nissan dealership quoted me $600 for a transmission fluid flush, which I prefer to do myself if possible

    I haven't changed the transmission fluid yet. I'm planning on doing that at 60k, and I'm around 35k now. Luckily, we have the same transmission as the Mercedes-Benz 9 speed. Look up videos on that, there's quite a bit. You need a pump and a special tool and you can do it yourself. I may do a video on that when the time comes.

    Trans temp has to be at a certain temp, there is a process to follow and use nothing but the NISSAN recommended trans fluid or you will have a bad day $$.

    Thank you for the vid. Do you know if valvoline max life compatible with 2022 frontier transmission fluid? You seems to change transfer case with valvoline maxlife!

  • @frontier_etc

    For the 9 speed, I don't think Valvoline Maxlife is compatible. The manual says to use Nissan Matic P, which isn't listed as compatible with Maxlife. However, the Nissan 9 speed is the same design as the Mercedes 9G Tronic, so you can check what fluids are compatible with that. So far, I found Liquimoly Top Tec 1800.

    @@frontier_etc thank you for the reply. One more question regarding frontier 2022. I plan to buy it used, it has 33.5k miles in it. Whenever I put from P or N to D, it has this shudder for a sec (kind of rough vibration), I am sitting in dealer right now trying to sign the paperwork but I find it odd that it shudder like that. Can you kindly reply to this and see if your frontier shudder from P to R, P to D, N to D or N to R? This is going to be my first truck so IDK if it is normal but my hunch said it is not normal!

    33.5k miles, have the transmission serviced by Dealer, the shudder should go away. Needs new fluid and filter. I would only use the Nissan recommended fluid. @@slothypunk

    For the transfer case did you just keep pumping until atf came back out the fill hole?

  • @frontier_etc

    Yes, with all three of these, fill until you see dripping out of the fill hole. Then let it slow to a very slow drip and then bolt it back up

    Why are you using different weight fluid than what’s in the owners manual for the diffs?

  • @frontier_etc

    @frontier_etc

    3 ай бұрын

    The manual for the 2020 calls for 80w90 for the front diff and 75w140 for the rear diff. I don't believe there will be a huge difference between 80w90 and 75w90 for the front, and there's also no squeeze bag for that weight. I believe that prior years as well as the 2022+ had some differences in fluid weights, so I just went with what the 2020 manual says.

  • @slothypunk
    @slothypunk3 ай бұрын

    Isn't the manual says 75-90 for rear diff? I don't think 75-140 will break it but considering 75-140 is more expensive, I'd go with 75-90

  • @frontier_etc

    @frontier_etc

    Nissan changed the rear diff gear oil viscosity to 75w-90 in 2022 on up. Front diff takes 80w-90 non synthetic but most people use 75w-90 synthetic.
