2020-06-26 Nokta Makro Simplex v2.77 with Fisher F75, US relic field test! Don't load ver 2.78!

June-2020. The Nokta Makro Simplex ver 2.68 was not getting the relic hunting job done in difficult soil conditions of Ky. Then came v 2.77! This 12kHz detector can now go 1-2" deeper in Field mode and 2-3" deeper in Park 1 mode. Also the new Mute function is brilliant! Here we have Mark with the trusty Fisher F75 13kHz to compare and spot signals alongside. Thanks for the digging Mark! The dry clay soil has some coal coke, modern trash, farm trash, electrical interference etc. You will hear the interaction between the two detectors. Simplex was set on Frequency shift 3. GB manual at 46 or preset at 90. Sensitivity max. Primarily Field and Park 1 modes.
The new Mute function was easy and great especially when we used the Garrett carrot pinpointer.
Simplex still struggles with blobs of lead or chewed up musket balls. And I figure this is because they really are trash. :-)
If you want relics don't load ver 2.78. Stick with v 2.77.

That is good to know about the v02.77 performing well in the hot ground. I own three Simplexes with v02.67, v02.77 and v02.78.I have hundreds of my videos on YT with all the versions. LOTS OF SILVERS!!! Thanks for the info guys. I have some hot ground in the southern part of my city that 02.67 does not do so well in.

What are your settings for civil war relic hunting? Do you rely on the vdi numbers or just dig any good signals? I live in Franklin, TN and have come up empty thus far. Really want to learn this machine so I can dig something other than trash! Lol.

Greetings Matt! I've dug lots of stuff in Franklin in the past. As you can see in the first of the video. You must first load firmware 2.77 to get relic hunting to work the best. Not 2.78. So find a copy of 2.77 and load that. OK, now in this video I'm using Park 1 and Field 1 modes alternately. Switching back and forth to test. Field 1 goes the deepest on relics but it is a monotone so rely on the numbers. Park mode wants to reject many relics like camp lead since they aren't coins. I had the sensitivity on maximum. Find a totally clean spot and ground balance first. At first run with iron tone on-all metal. So you'll know if you are into square nails where they burnt crates. Then you can turn off the iron if you want. Swing slow; the Simplex likes that fine. Recovery speed should be fast. Test that on some objects. You don't want slow recovery speed in trashy relic sites. See kzread.info/dash/bejne/dH2F1q2EYaSZgc4.html

Hey Johnny, how does the coal coke get in the soil?

When the tobacco is cured they often use coke or coal to heat the barns. Also if a blacksmith had a forge it gets dumped.

Which brand is known for its ruggedness and least malfunctioning? Among all brands….

There is no non-commercial brand like that since in the consumer metal detector arena there are inexpensive entry level machines that sell the most. Then there are expensive more advanced units that perform much better but may not be sturdy for rough duty. All sold by one brand. So for example in the Garrett line you can buy commercial grade detectors that are rough duty, but those may not have advanced features. They are used for pipe detection or scanning airport luggage for example. The Garrett AT line of detectors have a good record of being sturdy and reliable non-commercial, yet are not as full featured as other Garretts. In the Fisher line there would be a similar situation. Also Fisher makes a few old school detectors like the CZ-21 that are tough as nails. For the money, nothing of all machines made will top the Nokta Makro Simplex+ . It should cost three times what it does. Sturdy built, sturdy coil, waterproof even in the ocean. The only limitation is the single frequency. They are coming out with a multi frequency version.
