first chain was lube with lower unit outboard 90 weight. second chain is being lubricated with LPS 2. biggest thing is to make sure you lubricate the chain every 100 to 300 miles.

Wow, 30k miles in roughly three years. It was my first bike that I thought that I would outgrow but, after five years and three more bikes, I realized that it may be the bike I can ride longest as I grow older. Yeah, it is not most capable bike but, I enjoyed taking it on 150-250 miles per day trips. It is far more capable than my skills allow and always brought me back home no matter how stupid and cruel I was to it. :-)

When you start getting a more 'capable' bike, in the adventure series bikes, you start adding 1 to 3 hundred lbs to the bike. That becomes a bike on the trails that is a challenge to pick up even once, let alone several times on more difficult trails, that have logs, and ruts etc to get over. This bike could use a bit more hp, but as it sits, factory, you can use it all day on easy highways, and take on a heck of a lot more trail rides than you'd want to on an Africa Twin, Tenere 1200 etc, not exactly a freeway bike, but there is no joy in that anyway for a dirt bike/adventure bike, not for me anyway. I think 'fishing' like this reviewer does, is perfect for this bike, get on it and go, most places, never worry about needing help to stand it back up, in the outbacks, and trails.

I just think about a 250 is a good spot for a trail bike because a lot of times to gey to the good spots you are basucally walking the bike anyway
I absolutely love my 2019 xt250. It's the only bike I've ever owned so i cant compare, which can be a good thing😅. Yours is in beautiful condition. I live in Australia.

These are great bikes. Just rode 50 kms on my nephews XT. Aussie too.
Thank You. You know what You talking about. My XT only twentyfive k, catching up
Nice looking bike, I can tell you take care of your machines well.
Enjoyed the video. Just bought a 2020 model with 1000 miles on it for my nephew. I've done a bit of trailbike fishing using an IT250, and SL230. I own a road legal TTR230 nowadays but these XT's are very nice.

Fantastic video, thanks for doing this.
Great review. You are the first person besides myself to have taken the big plunge and bought a Corbin for your XT250. How many miles did yours take to break-in? I also gave a Corbin on my Honda CB500X and it is super duper comfy. You've got great upgrades on your bike. Thank you for taking the time to share your 30k review. This is another testament to how great this bike is.

Thanks, I guess I really haven't noticed how long it took to break in because of the Air hawk seat cover. Thank you for your kind comments!

I bought a 2008 xt250 with 3700 miles on it for $1400. It runs like néw after a little TLC. It had been sitting up for a couple of years but it is a great little bike that takes me anywhere and everywhere I want to go. Got Kendas similar to your tires and they make it more responsive and smoother on the street and since I try to avoid mud they work just fine. Good bike not only for beginners but for experienced riders who want a lightweight bike to throw around on the backroads and trails. Perfect for a weekend camping trip. It’s rolling over on 6000 miles tomorrow and has been trouble free. I think my only improvements would be a better seat and maybe an LED headlight to cut the draw on the alternator a little.
You should list in the description, the names of the windscreen etc and where you bought them, or links .
I recently bought a new XT250. I took it on a very nice 160 mile ride through the ozark mountains yesterday. Previously I took it to a track day at Willow Springs in Rosamond California, ran it hard, beat a few sports bikes, and had a lot of fun. I’ve seen an indicated 93mph on a slight downhill with a tailwind, but usually 75-80 is about the max. It’s good to know that the engine will go 30,000 miles plus - I’ve only got 1,500 miles on mine and the engine makes a lot of knocking and banging sounds which I understand is normal and has something to do with the vibration damper inside the engine. This noise started very early on while I was riding it easy, breaking in the engine. Now I just ignore it, and it hasn’t gotten worse. The stock seat kills your butt - I need to check into the Corbin seat. I have the same windshield - nice piece. I’ve been running conventional yamalube but am going to switch to synthetic yamalube on the next oil change. This bike will take you anywhere you want to go.

I have the 2022 XT250 and the engine sure sounds like something is going to come apart in there too. Has your XT250 made the knocking and banging sounds for the past 30,000 miles?

@@RideReno775 I only have about 1500 miles on my XT250 at this point. I first noticed the noise around 500 miles and was worried about it but I’ve since done some reading and apparently they all do it. It seems to have something to do with the vibration damper inside the engine. When I watch videos of people riding XT250s I can usually hear the same sound. The bike has a forged piston in it and I know those can be noisy as well due to the increased piston skirt clearance that is required. I quit worrying about it.

@@riveneva1519 I have 1700 on mine. I've owned a lot of Yamaha's but none have ever made these noises. It seems to run great though and is a blast to ride. Thanks for the reply.
Very cool, I'm hoping to pick up a used 2019 soon. Hope it's still treating you well!
I bought a new Yamaha 2007 XT225. I had about the same results that you did on the various items you mentioned. I put 33,000 miles on it. i when I sold it, I thought it ran just like it did when it was new.
Just wondering if the Shinkos improve the handling? I'm still running the stock trail wing Bridgestone tires and I always feel sketchy on the corners.
Cool bike

That's a lot of riding! Nice bike.. I've wanted a dual purpose forever. I'm on the short side, so I'm limited. I'm looking at a 99 XT225 with 6000 miles on it. The pipe at the cylinder still looks newish. They pulled all the street gear off though. No turn signals and mirrors. I guess 6000 miles is low for a 99..

Thanks, 6,000 may be, or may not be low miles. It really depends on how the previous owner's kept up the bike. Good luck with your purchase keep looking persistently and you'll find a good bargain. You have to be ready with cash in hand.
I have owned two xt225 and I'm on my second xt250 I really like the bikes I was always wondering how many miles you could get on the stock motor you have done a lot of driving since you bought the bike glad to hear the motor still running great. I think I'm going to put ams oil 0w 40 synthetic in my bike this summer it's a little more pricey but I think it's better in colder and warmer weather. Like the video keep more coming.

There was a guy from UK in fakebook XT250 group who claimed that he put 90k miles on two of his XT's and he had third that something happend to it. Another lady had well 40k miles when her XT was totalled in car accident but, it ran fine before that. It is great lil bike.
Do you still have it. How long do you think it will last ?
Can you add some links in the description for your windscreen, rear rack and any other accessories you added ?

Useful video on durability of the XT. How well do the Shenko tyres handle gravel/dirt/mud?
@theman2391
2 жыл бұрын
They do real well on gravel Forest Service roads and water crossings. They do okay in dirt as long as it's not too soft like sand. They don't work well in mud, I just make sure I've got plenty of momentum going in when I hit mud.

@@theman2391 thanks. Good to know.
What Size Shinko did you put on the front. They do not list the 2.75 sizes that come on the bike. The one they list is larger and has a different profile. Did that create any problems?
@theman2391
Жыл бұрын
90/90-21M/C 54H No problems at all. Every now and then they would pick up a rock and it sounds like a can being crushed going through the lower fender. The factory tires did the same thing. They really give a smooth ride compared to the factory tires.
