    Just a quick comment to help some of the people that are a little confused with the terminology if "barebow". Barebow is the name of a class defined by World Archery and can be found in their rule books if anyone was curious as to what the rules of this class entails. Of course the word "barebow" means different things to different people, but in this case it is the name of the class that is as designated many years ago. Cheers

    As a barebow archer myself I don't understand a) why they don't tell you the draw weight and b) why not just call this archery?

  • @itsjim2875

    @itsjim2875

    3 жыл бұрын

    A. Draw weight is irrelevant - just so you can reach the target. Barebow archers at 20 yards (18 meters) are typically pulling somewhere between 34 & 42 lbs. B. Archery takes many forms. If you just call it "archery" most people would think they should be watching a compound match. OLYMPIC-style archery is comprised of a smaller group of archers, and barebow (recurve) even fewer, but it is growing. There is also a compound "barebow" category. There are other subsets - too many to mention. It is not called just "archery" so shooters from the different groups will be able to identify which group is competing and know whether or not to to sign up for that competition. They don't mix it up, i.e compound shooters do not compete against recurve shooters, etc. Just like you can refer to an automobile race, but you don't see Formula 1s competing against NASCAR, though they are both "just" cars. I suppose you could call either or even the Indy 500 just a car race.

    The commentators were saying that they were using a technique call string walking, where you slide your shooting tab down the string to accommodate the distance in which they’re shooting. Notice how their tabs weren’t directly underneath the nock but rather an inch down or so. String walking might be great however, you still have other factors to worry about in your shot like form, their release, arrow tuning, other things.

Those two are just chatting with themselves. There was even a moment of awkward silence during the officials inspection, when neither could think of something to say. Are they in the same room? 👎🏻 The senior archer was very impressive. Not just his skill. He exuded calm, centred confidence. Richard Stonebraker. Sounds positively medieval! Kudos to both archers.

    Why do they state that the target face they are shooting is 40 cm? The three spot targets they are shooting are NOT 40 cm targets. If they insist the three spot targets are 40 cm then the judges scoring them have massively large heads as the 40 cm target in inches is just shy of 15 3/4 inch diameter. So my question is, what size are the three spot targets?

    Yes. Barebow in target shooting is based on the olympic recurve platform. Something shot off the shelf or off the hand would be traditional, which isn't recognized in World Archery. But my country will have a traditional division in competitions if there is enough interest. Otherwise they get lumped in with barebow And of course it is covered in field shooting.

    @@blackhellebore89 in France, we have olympic, compound, bare compound, barebow, hunting bow (recurve off the shelf) and longbows. But sometimes it's quite dumb, we see olympic recurve with a shelf to shoot in the hunting categorie... Against Wooden old recurves...

    I get what you're saying but a bare bow is just that, bare. If it isn't part of the integral design and has been added then its no longer bare. A metal takedown bow is still bare in its elements, riser and limbs. It was only something one of the judges said, I doubt I could ever shoot that well even with every aid going and don't mean to take anything away from the amazing shooting. Nether the less, a stabiliser is just that, an addition to the bow in order to aid the shooter.
