We have the same model, purchased at the end of the 2019 season; (i) It’s more compelling than I would have believed. I have powerful motorcycles and didn’t expect this PWC to get under my skin in the way it did. (I mistakenly thought it would get boring after a few hours; (but it didn’t !) (ii) It’s far more thirsty than I would have expected ! (You will need spare 20L plastic containers in your car boot, or perhaps the sea-doo linQ fuel can ). (iii) I recommend getting the depth finder from your dealer as well as the USB charger , sound system and all the LInQ accessories (iv) We tow youngsters ( 13- 17 ) on a kneeboard,wakeboard, one person tube, two person “Ride on “ and three person Jobe Sea-Esta. The “ski mode is utterly brilliant at giving the youngsters “appropriate “ acceleration and consistent speeds. (v) Love the stability of the craft and also the closed loop cooling. ( I wouldn’t own a PWC that squirted a jet of water in the air , I think they are contemptible) Kevin, thank you for making this video.

@@aaron-fauth Sadly we have neither. I use mine on the Ria Formosa. Depths here are not an issue (weeds are though !) I’d make sure my next ski has both.

I just purchased this model second hand at the beginning of the summer. I come from a line of Sea Doo models with my most recent being a 2015 GTI 130. My family has grown since 2015 and have younger kids that are getting into water sports. We own a 190 hp Starcraft I/O ski boat but we found that it's a lot easier to use the sea doo on days where we don't feel like uncovering the boat or where it's windy/the weather isn't quite boating weather but can just hop on/off with the sea doo. I have to say it's been fantastic. It's got a decent wake to it with plenty of power to pull up a teenager. I love having the different ramp modes in ski mode as my 7 year old nephew, who just got up on a wakeboard for the first time a couple days ago, requires a different ramp speed as well as cruise speed as my 15 year old nephew who is more experienced, heavier and more aggressive.

We are still enjoying our wake pro.. 90 hours on it now... we were Yamaha folk.. but truly converted to seadoo now.. awesome review on the wake pro.. I hope the new ski brings you hours of fun and great times.

Obviously, you want to be careful and always wear the proper PFD and eye protection. But yes, Kevin's kids have all grown up on PWC - heck, Chris MacClugage's 8-year-old son is piloting his own standup!

I want one. Covid has me socond guessing my wants and needs and maybe pushing to 2021. Love your vids.

Great video!! I have a 2018 wake pro 230 and I love it. The video is pretty accurate with the pros and cons (specially with the black plastic wearing off). I definitely recommend the wake pro.

Great detailed review. Got a 2020 Wake Pro about 3 weeks ago and have a little over 20 hours on it. First jet ski and not owning a boat, the versatility of the large Sea-Doo models with the Linq options provides some fantastic versatility. And anyone that is on the fence about the speakers should definitely get them if you plan to take your ski on long outings. They sound great and I've appreciated having the music more than I even thought I would.

Nice ski watercraft Journal love all the extra goodies you get with this ski, but whats interesting is the Top speed with 230hp. I believe you guys tested a 2020 Yamaha GP1800R HO that did 66 mph and only has 180hp. This is where that Horsepower to weight ratio comes into play :) :)

LOL. I'd build a 310X hull with the Kawasaki 20.5-gallon fuel tank and 8-vane Kawi pump; a Yamaha 1,812cc SVHO engine and ECU; a RIVA intercooler; Sea-Doo GTI deck with Ergolock and BRP Audio; Sea-Doo LinQ system; Yamaha FX dashboard/Yamaha Connext; Yamaha FX tilt steering. etc. etc.

Do you have a review of the new 2021 model. Is there any large differences you would note? I noticed the 2021 wake pro features a full fiberglass hull. Do you recommend the bottom poly carbonate hull or the fiberglass.

No. There’s really not that much difference besides the gauge cluster and lever tank.

Deciding between the 2021 Wake Pro 230 or The 2021 FX SVHO. Will be doing quite a bit of towing, but also will do some cruising, sometimes in open ocean conditions. I really like both boats, Any suggestions? Would you have a preferance? Would one boat be better in rough water? Best overall boat in your opinion? Thanks for all your reviews.

Kevin, I’m considering a PWC to compliment our pontoon boat. Kids love to tube and want to wakeboard and ski. Would you go with the SeaDoo wake pro or the FX limited? Im assuming you can wake or ski behind the FX even though it doesn’t have the nifty pole tower? Thanks Kevin M

You can definitely wakeboard, ski, tow with the FX Limited as well. You'll note the FX Limited also comes with its own towable and rope, which is nice (among other accessories). The Wake Pro 230 is a great ski and does the job for sure, but make sure not to use the retractable pylon for the raft - it's not strong enough and will break.

Do I, a will be noob at pulling wakeboarders and skiers, need the launch software that’s offered on the Wake Pro? Or is it easy to learn without it?

It's all about how deft your hand is at operating the throttle. The Ski Mode does the work for you; you simply grab the gas and go, the ski slowly ramps up the speed for you. With the Yamaha, you're gonna have to feather the throttle manually.

Never owned a Seadoo yet but plenty of Skidoo’s and motorcycles, and I’ve ridden my buddy’s 155 and 185 a few times. Would this be a good ski to buy Kevin for a first time owner looking for all around fun times and towing kids around on a tube and for adults learning to wake board ? Also, how good is the sound system for the added $1200 ? Really appreciate your thoughts 👍

Frankly, the BRP Premium Audio system is a must have. It's the easiest to operate of all 3 manufacturers, the clearest sound and best bang for your buck. The Wake Pro 230 is a lot of fun, but we frankly love the new GTI hull so much over the larger ST3 hull that we'd recommend the Wake 170 more.

We’re looking at a getting either a wake 170 vs wake pro 230 and a GTX 170 vs GTI SE 130. (been saving $ for a while). Primarily looking at GTI vs ST3 hulls because we’re 62yrs old and don’t want to get beaten up by the chop at lake of the Ozarks where I was fortunate to find a full time job a year ago. Most of our riding will be at 20-25 MPH unless the skis handle chop better than our tritoon. I’ve seen your vids re: ST3 bow pushing the ski side to side- does that happen at cruising speeds of 20ish MPH or is more of an issue when ripping it? At our slower speeds would the ST3’s sharper bow keel yield a smoother ride? There are none to try out in this market so your experience and advice would be helpful.

Very observant questions! Yes, at slower speeds you won't experience the bow dynamics like you will at say, 35-45. Yet, at those speeds you also won't find much of a difference in hull behavior between the GTI and ST3. Rather, what will be the key deciding factor is storage access and length of the deck.

Yes, the tow eye. On your Kawasaki its that shiny U-shaped ring on the back. On the Sea-Doo, it's that big black plastic ring at the tail of the transom. And no, it is not rated to pull 4 adults and a raft. And we're pretty sure neither is your Kawasaki. We're going off of the manufacturer's ratings too, so keep that in mind.

I remember the good old days, no chains across boat ramps, going for a boat ride wasn't considered an act of civil disobedience.

BRP notes that 85% of Wake Pro sales are to family/recreation riders interested in "tow sports" mainly inflatables. The quantity of people wakeboarding behind a PWC is demonstrably smaller than a raft.
